I'm using Firefox to save my passwords, but I'm having troubles in having a good experience with it now that lockwise is gone. And lockwise was not perfect either but still better.

If I create a new account on an app Firefox doesn't provide a way to autogenerate a password and then save the login data.

Please improve this feature because it is vital, especially if you deprecate the alternative.

Cheers

New Tab Shortcuts wiped out by Sync

Hi all, I suspect I'm out of luck but I'm hoping someone might have some ideas ... I'm using Firefox 94.0.2 and I have become a big fan of the ability to pin shortcuts/bookmarks to tiles in the New Tab screen. I customized my New Tab with 9 rows of tiles, 72 pinned sites, a very useful & convenient feature.

I got a new laptop for work, installed Firefox and logged into my Firefox account. I ran Sync to copy some open tabs over to the browser in my old laptop. Somehow the sync picked up the setting of having 72 tiles on the New Tab page, on the new laptop, which was great; but instead of my pinned sites, the 72 tiles were populated by random sites (presumably pulled out of browsing history). No worries; I'd expected that I'd have to manually configure the new laptop's browser anyway.

But then when i logged into my old laptop this morning I was dismayed to see that the pinned sites were gone! The 72 tiles are still there, but the pinned sites have been replaced by random ones. Now I'll have to reconfigure my old laptop's browser as well. :-(

My question: is there any way to restore the previous pinned sites without having to re-pin them all manually? And once they're all back in place, is there some way to export/save/lock them, so this won't happen again? If having Sync enabled across my two devices is going to randomly wipe out my pinned sites, then I suppose the New Tab tile functionality is not so useful and I'll just use an old-fashioned Bookmark list.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

You just synced with my phone. I'm being specific. I planned on uploading some pictures for your viewing pleasure now please tell me what did you extract from my phone? Did you get all of my pictures? Did you get anything else with out asking me. I'm trying to be friendly, this is a big deal for me in many ways and I haven't received one answer from you. Did I develop your software?

Hi,

A few days ago Firefox on my Mac laptop (macOS Catalina) suddenly stopped suggesting sites I'd visited in the drop down on the address bar and is no longer auto-completing as I type into the address bar. It is set to auto-suggest based on pages from history (I unset and re-set that in settings), and to remember history. However, I noticed today that the history is near blank (it has 3 tabs from a local network page I visited but nothing from outside my local network).

I also noticed today that the copy on my laptop is no sharing with my other instances (work computer, phone). I can send tabs to it, but the tabs that are showing as being "current" when I look at other machines are from before this happened.

I've tried rebooting and restarting Firefox, but I can't seem to find any fixes for it.

Okay, so I decided to sync my Firefox from my laptop with my work computer. I wasn't thinking about it also making all my passwords available on my work computer, which I do not want. I thought just signing out and using the browser 'un synced' would mean the passwords weren't available, but nope. While signed out, if click into passwords I can still see them all. So my question: If I delete the passwords from here (signed out) on my work computer, will it also delete them from my laptop browser (that is signed in)?

I normally use Firefox desktop on my Linux computer.

Last week, I started using it on a public computer running Windows. I installed Firefox Portable and then logged/synced into my Firefox account on this Win computer. I noticed that in the Firefox Portable Windows “about:preferences” page, it says “Your browser is being managed by your organization”, which links to about:policies. In that “about:policies” page, it shows this https://i.imgur.com/JmD8nXg.png Policy Name: DisableAppUpdate Policy Value: true. Now I’m back on my Linux desktop computer and it also has this “managed by your organization” message in “about:preferences” and the same “about:policies” stuff. In other words, it appears that this policy was copied from the Windows public computer to my personal Linux computer. I don’t want that.

How can I undo this? And how can I block this sort of policy syncing?

Just noticed today that Firefox on my work computer (Mac) is adding an icon to the MacOS Dock that opens the URL of the currently active tab from Firefox on my personal computer (also a Mac). Firefox on my work computer is signed into Sync w/ my work Firefox account and Firefox on my personal computer is signed into sync w/ my personal Firefox account. This is crazy and unacceptable.

I have not previously signed into my personal Firefox account on my work computer, the Connected Services section of the Firefox Account Settings for my personal account does not show my work computer and the Connected Services for my work account does not show my personal computer.

Both computers are on the same physical network, but do not otherwise interact.
