While using Thunderbird, it mysteriously stopped connecting to Yahoo Mail. This happens every few years and I think it's related to Oauth2 credentials.

I generated a new secure mail key and copied it into Thunderbird but that didn't work. So then I checked online, and one of the steps in the Thunderbird instructions is: "Select 'Server Settings' for mail account; Set incoming server 'Authentication Method' to 'Oauth2'; Click on 'OK' ". But Oauth2 isn't one of the options. The choices are normal password, encrypted password, Kerberos/GSSAPI, and NTLM.

I'm using POP. Tbird version 115.11.1.

Hi, it seems that my Firefox browser does not want to save a new payment method. I'm trying to access "Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Autofill" and then click on "Saved payment methods", which opens a dialog with the existing payment methods and options to remove/add/edit. I'm clicking on Add, filling-in the card details and then clicking Save, nothing happens....

I previously had a working saved payment method, but it stopped working (I think more than 6 months ago). I tried to re-enable the credit cards by setting the following configs on about:config page:

- extensions.formautofill.creditCards.available: true
- extensions.formautofill.creditCards.supportedCountries: '...,RO' -> (I was adding my country to the existing list)

After the browser restart with those new settings when I'm on a payment page, clicking on a credit card field will show the saved credit card but if I click on it, it will not fill the details. And also trying to save a new card, manually as described previously in this message, or by the automatically prompt to save a new card after a successful payment was done. Both methods failed on me but with no error (I cannot see the saved payment on the list).

I tried removing the existing saved card, it worked removing it, but the add is still not working.

I also tried restarting in save mode, launching Firefox in a separate profile and added my country on the creditCards config for supportedCountries to show the "Saved payment methods" button on new profile, and it did not change anything.

I'm thinking there is a missing permission somewhere on the disk but I don't know where is the payment data stored on disk.

I would really appreciate any help on this.

PS: Check the attached pic to see the payment add and clicking the save button does nothing (also there are no validation errors). And the other: FF version, OS, troubleshooting info.

From Sept-16-2024 Microsoft will deprecate Normal Password and require OAuth2 authentication on its email accounts accessed from Thunderbird and other clients.

I'm trying to convert my hotmail accounts on Thunderbird to OAuth2 authentication.

Server Settings Authentication can be set to OAuth2 because OAuth2 is an option in that menu.

But SMTP Server Authentication cannot be set to OAuth2 because OAuth2 is not an option in that menu.

Both Connection Security methods ( Inbound and SMTP ), are set to STARTTLS.

See screenshots, thank you.

Microsoft tell me that I must use OAuth2 for my accounts, else I'll be locked out.

Server is imap-mail.outlook.com. If I select OAuth2, then I can't receive emails unless I reset back to Normal Password.

I'm also supposed to set my SMTP server (smtp-mail.outlook.com) to OAuth2, but this isn't an option on the drop down list.

Help, please!

Hello I'm referencing the topic where TLS 1.0 and 1.1 support was removed but rolled back to accommodate some government agencies / sites and support for COVID-19 data

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1290040#:~:text=Mozilla%20and%20other%20browser%20makers,and%20performance%20of%20Internet%20connections.

Quoted answer "Right, support for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 has been removed few months ago, but we reverted the change for an undetermined amount of time to better enable access to critical government sites sharing COVID19 information."

Since it was referenced as "undermined amount of time", is there anything currently on your roadmap/release schedule in regards to removing support again? I have some cutover decisions I need to make and knowing if ESR for example will remove this support in 2 months may effect the direction of those. If you have anything to share, i'd really appreciate it.

Hi there. I'm in the process of switching from Chrome and I want to import my passwords.

I first tried the 'import from Chrome' option - it says it's successful, but nothing has actually been added. Same result after several attempts.

I then tried the csv route. I found out I had to change the config settings, so I did just that, but the 'import CSV' option still isn't showing even after a reset.

So now I'm at a dead end. Any bright ideas please? TIA!

FYI I'm using Firefox 99.0.1

Hi all :)

From a fresh Linux Debian Bullseye I try to connect to a local machine with Firefox (v97 64-bits) by its hostname (avahi server with default domain "local") with the port 6180 bound to a remote web service port (61 is the distant machine IP and 80 is the forwarded port).

When I want to open this URL : http://bionic.local:6180/ FF displays "We can't find this site ... Unable to connect to server at bionic.local ... check your network connection and firewall"

BUT ping bionic.local works perfectly and resolve the good IP address from the Chromium navigator the same URL works without a problem, I can open the distant web site.

This workaround works : add a static resolution in the /etc/hosts file : 192.168.0.71 bionic bionic.local => so FF works in the expected way for now ! But as I said this a workaround and a bad solution.

I supposed too the port was blocked because I accessed an unusual port. So I tried this without success.

How the hell make that FF v97 allows me to use an unusual port ? Or is it bound to the domain "local" which is no more accepted by FF ?

Thank you in advance for your help. With adelphity, lnj

Same question goes for audio-readout, is there a pref to fake or block?

Hello!

After upgrading from a very old (but perfectly working) version of Thunderbird (24.3.0 on Windows 7) to 91.8.1 (on the same Windows 7 system), Thunderbird can no longer remember my passwords.

Apart from this everything in the new version works. Emails are retrieved fine when I enter the passwords manually.

Symptoms:

  • always asks me for my passwords, even when I have checked the "Use Password Manager to remember this password" checkbox.
  • no stored passwords show up in "Saved Passwords ..."
  • When I try to set a primary password (I did not use one so far), I get an error "Unable to change Primary Password".

What I tried after searching for solutions:

  • Remove files cert*.db and key*.db from my profile. Does not make any difference.

best regards

Edwin

It appears web sites can track my activity on their site. How do I make it so a given web site can't track me? Does Firefox have a setting that makes it more difficult to track me on a given web site? I've seen where a VPN, not sure what that is, can be of big help. How do I initiate a VPN and are there free VPN's? When I visit this particular site it states, "from your site login activity" and goes on from there what they want to do. How do I make it more difficult for a web site to be able to track my log in activity? Will a VPN solve this problem? Or, does Firefox have various accessories that can do the same thing? I know deleting cookies with this particular site does not solve the issue for me. Can someone help? Thank you.

Hi.

I need to print out my saved passwords. I have no cellphone to access, just my laptop and printer. I only use Firefox and no other browser. If my laptop gets hacked or breaks down, then I need to use someone else's computer to access my passwords in an emergency, and can't access my passwords to do so...so printing them out periodically is the smartest thing I can think of.

Help, anyone? This is pretty important to me. Thank you!

I haven't had to sign in for a while, so tonight when I tried and I typed the password in correctly the box just immediately closes and reopens like its incorrect. I have tried locating the key3.db and key4.db which I can't find on my system, nor can I find the login.json that is supposed to have the log of passwords to back them up. I don't have any 3rd party password managers and I've tried with my VPN disconnected. I've used the password generator to secure some of my websites so I don't even know was some of my passwords are, so resetting the primary password would be a huge hassle. If someone could please help me out I would be very appreciative. Thanks!

I don't mean "saving" login information for later use, that I do not want to do. What I mean by the login not being retained is that when I log-in to a website like say Amazon, while I'm browsing, I end up having to re-enter my login information pretty much every other time that I switch between pages. I've never had an issue like that with any other browser. Is there some setting I need to adjust to stop that from happening? As I said, I'm not looking to save my passwords and usernames within the browser, I just want to effectively browse a website after logging into it without needing to login every time I move between pages. Thanks!

Gmail with Thunderbird using OAUTH2 - not Connecting nor creating a Cookie

This is my first post. But I have been reading and benefiting from all the expertise I have found here for many years! Thanks to all!

Trying to plan ahead for the Gmail OAUTH2 change, I upgraded to Tbird 91.9.0.

My Account Settings all transferred to the new version. I do have multi Gmail accounts, as well as other email accounts, but from other posts here, this should matter.

While I am a long term Tbird user, I am a newbie with OAUTH2. I can't seem to connect. So I am writing here for help!

My setup: - Dell notebook running W10 - internet connection strong - am using a Netgear Nighthawk Hotspot Router, which works great with

everything else, so I really doubt that is an issue

- testing without a firewall; running McAfee - resetting Tbird account back to "Normal Password", then Gmail connects

Incoming Server set to IMAP: imap.gmail.com:993 w SSL/TLS and OAuth2 Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com:465 w SSL/TLS and OAuth2

I have been consistently testing with the same gmail account: - YES, I know my password; it works with both the Gmail web interface,

or after going back to "Normal Password" instead of OAUTH2

- allow any Alert emails via Gmail Web Interface, repeatedly. - Ran Captcha ... many times! In case someone else reading here needs this, it is here: https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and you must be logged into the Gmail Web Interface when running this. I have learned to take a pause after running this, for it do its thing.

If Toad-Hall is reading this, I found your list of steps here very helpful: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1375558 Worth repeating for others who are struggling, like me.

As recommended here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1373706 Cookies: all cleared Remembered Passwords: all cleared

Also looked at this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1375702 Originally, my cookies WERE blocked. I did need to change my Web Content as recommended in this post:

Selected: Remember web sites and links I've visited
   Selected: Accept cookies from sites
   Accept third-party cookies: Always
   Keep until : they expire
Not selected: 'Send web sites 'Do not track'.....

Also: In Privacy and Security -> Web content -> Exceptions, added: https://accounts.google.com set to 'Allow' and Saved Changes. Then exit Tbird, took a short pause, started Tbird again, per the advice to properly update the files.

Should I be doing BOTH of these? This post shows options: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20 So if I Select to accept cookies, should I also set the Exception??? I have tested various combinations of these settings, but not seeing a cookie.

In Tbird, when testing to connect, I see:

"Sign in with your Google Account" Enter my account password (I see an error msg here when I typo the password, no error when entered correctly) Also, have checked "Stay Signed In" while trying to Authorize, as recommended. then click Allow on the second screen.

After a few seconds, keep seeing popup in lower right corner of screen: "Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com" Sometimes, this msg does not popup, which seems odd to me, but it still fails: Cookies: still empty Password: still empty

I keep updating and reading and updating the setups and testing again, but no cookies for me!

I admit I have gotten off track, testing and reading posts:

Thought my problem might involve Certificates for a while, but now do not think OAUTH2 is using Certificates. Right?

Thought for a bit it might be Javascript disabled, but I am NOT seeing the popup window that shows this error, from this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1373379 refers to: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1286410 Did find my way to Config editor: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1349136 Followed this advice: "Click the 3-bar menu icon, Preferences, and find Config. editor at the bottom of the General section. Or, type editor in the search box at the top of Preferences." Then searched for "Javascript" and found most of settings were true, like javascript.enabled is "true". Should everything that a search for javascript finds be set to true? Since I do not see the error msg, I believe this is not my problem.

Stans posted another helpful summary here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1375538 "After you've changed your accounts to OAuth2, delete all records of your Google Account passwords from Thunderbird's password vault (Saved Passwords). With OAuth2, your passwords are not stored by Tbird. Instead, an OAuth2 token (a long string of meaningless characters) is stored in the password field. That's what you should see after completing the OAuth2 process for each of your accounts. You have to do it twice, once for incoming and once for outgoing server. Also, you must allow cookies in Thunderbird's Preferences, otherwise it won't work."

If I am following this correctly, after testing to try and authenticate, I should see a Cookie and a Saved Password being created but they are not.

Think this is my problem!

In Gmail web interface, I am not sure of some settings:

In Manage Your Google Account -> Security:

1. Should Sign-in 2-step verification be on/off? (its off) 2. Third Party apps w access shows Tbird (think this is new, don't recall it before) 3. Allow Less Secure App: turn off (was On for normal pswd; either way fails w OAUTH2) (think I have tested all combinations of the above, with no success) I welcome suggestions on how I should set these to connect with OAUTH2.

I feel like I am getting close here, but I am stuck. Is there anything else, maybe something I have not heard about, like Captcha, that I should try?

Have I missed a setting somewhere? Suggestions???

I dont care what you are going to say to make it sound okay, it is NOT OKAY AT ALL. Mozilla Firefox supposed to be a Privacy Browser is not making business with Meta -> Facebook, lately i really question the mental health of Mozilla, first a unique identifier, now a partnership with zucking facebook, what's next? Let me tell you something, if you are a privacy company then get the zuck away from companies who don't give a damn zuck about privacy -> facebook, mozilla can NOT simply make a deal with facebook and claim "oh dont worry it's ok your privacy is secure, bullsh!t.

You know what, i have been using Firefox since i first accessed the internet with a webbrowser, now hear this -> one more negative thing from mozilla and that's it, bye mozilla you have lost your way.

While this is only me speaking here, MANY people have already quit firefox because of what mozilla has been doing recently. Continue what you are doing now, and soon your greatest product -> firefox will be dead. When privacy partners with tracking & spyware this is the definition of suicidal behaviour. I really worry about Mozillas Mental Health lately.

I will copy paste this post to a few other mozilla releated forums, let's see how long it stays on before censorship happens.

Here a few comments from reddit users on this topic:

The article says what it says, but we all have a long memory of Facebook/ Rebranded Facebook being a company that is horrible, and not to be trusted when they put out a press release. -Nailed it

I’ve been using Firefox since like 2002. I never stopped. I really hope I don’t have to soon. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. -Nailed it

Facebook is one company you should keep away as far as possible. -Nailed it

Then read the article, and see that this is a case of Mozilla working with Meta to maintain privacy. -This person must have mental issues, time to see a doctor asap!
