Sometime ago, Thunderbird stopped being able to connect with my GMail and Hotmail email accounts. I guess this had something to do with the change to OAuth authentication. I then switched over to Yahoo accounts which worked perfectly until last night when I installed the latest update, i.e. 153.0.1esr (Meadow). Now, I cannot connect with ANY account whatsoever. Thunderbird just stopped working in my two Windows 10 laptops and it does not seem to work on the Windows 11, either, although I have only tried Gmail accounts on that one (without the update), as I cannot possibly be left without an email handler.

If I try to download my emails, I get a screen that tells me that I should “Turn-off ad blockers“ and “Enable JavaScript“ in my browser, but I have tried several (4) browsers as default with the same result. I don’t have either ad blockers or cookie restrictions in any one of them and JavaScript is enabled in all (it is now by default).

I have downloaded and installed “eM Client” and it works *perfectly*. However, I would loathe to have to abandon Thunderbird and get used to an entirely new program, but which is what I will have to do if this thing is not resolved ASAP.

As mentioned, I think there has to do with the OAuth authentication system.

I have even tried ChatGPT, without success!

And there is no way to revert to the previous version !!!!!

Please do something NOW, or it is, regrettably, goodbye Thunderbird!

Hi, Long time Thunderbird user here. I've not experienced this issue before. I am having trouble configuring Thunderbird to correctly setup a new Outlook account. I get an error message "The current command did not succeed. The mail server for patsycrowly@outlook.com responded: User is authenticated but..." The rest of the error is cut off by Windows notifications. Not helpful. I'm still using Windows 10 (choice would be a fine thing) on a PC. I've spent hours trying all the suggestions re setup online both Mozilla and MS Outlook, I'm sure you know how numerous they are. I understand that imap and using oauth are the way to go, so have avoided POP. I have allowed cookies, I have tried among other suggestions the most recent: - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1513917 and WavidDilly's response and solution 6/16/25, 2:20 AM. I have definitely checked that Thunderbird is enabled in Outlook and that both IMAP and POP are enabled. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the account (ensuring that relevant passwords were removed first (in case!)) an removed the data files before reinstallation etc. I am dreading that I may have to do the same with T'bird itself. BTW I am definitely using the latest version 144.0.1 (64-bit). I am a reasonably competent adult but sometimes find that the more recent versions of T'bird are not as intuitive as they once were; so please will you be kind and make your response very clear with simple instructions. I've been using Thunderbird for years to access my gmail account through my ieee alias. Sometime after 4/2/2025 my login fails with the message "Login to server imap.googlemail.com....failed". I've tried changing the imap server to "imap.gmail.com" but get similar results. For some reason, it appears that something changed on 4/3 that prevents a successful login to the gmail server from Tbird. I have both Tbird and gmail configured for OAuth2. When in e-mail I get a message concerning not being able to connect I MAP settings as there are too many or something like that. (Message disapears quickly). It indicating that I should use advanced I MAP settings - all of which is way beyong my primative knowledge. Anyone throw any light on this regarding what and how to do or who to contact Thank you . I'm running Thunderbird with one account without problems. When I try to add a second account I get as far as entering name and e-mail. After this, a cirkle starts spinning and never ends.

I am trying to be nice but it's should be going both ways . Server Not Found. Firefox can’t connect to the server at www.rebaid.com. AND YOU GIVING ME ADVICE: "Try connecting on a different device. Check your modem or router. Disconnect and reconnect to Wi-Fi." We both know that my router is not the problem nor my PC/device. It's you and you should harder to connect me with a page-site.

UNABLE TO RE-ADD MAIL ACCOUNTS TO THUNDERBIRD For the last three or four months I have been getting two separate messages in the bottom of the screen when opening Thunderbird on my laptop. "GMAIL settings are out of date" and "Yahoo settings are out of date". Then, a about a month ago when I opened Thunderbird I noticed that it was trying to download almost 3000 Gmail emails. I had always believed that only new Gmail messages would download on start up? Whilst this was happening it was impossiblle to do anything on my laptop as I had limited internet access. The only way I could see to stop this was to delete my Gmail account from Thunderbird. When I opened Thunderbird I continued to get the messages "settings are out of date" for each of my mail accounts. So I deleted my email accounts from Thunderbird with the intention of re-adding them. I then downloaded and re-installed Thunderbird to ensure I was on the latest version. I then tried to re-add my mail accounts, letting Thunderbird find and load the correct email settings for each account but I now get an error message saying "Unable to Log In at Server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password". Refer to attached screenshot. I can log in to my Mail Accounts OK using Firefox so I know my username and password are correct. I also tried adding my mail accounts manually in Thunderbird but I contiue to get the same message. I am unable to add my mail accounts to Thunderbird and I have run out of ideas regarding diagnosis and resolution. I need help please.

From time to time - and for reasons that I cannot discern - I get screens popping up from Google saying that it needs information or permission to access T-bird accounts. I have both gmail and other domain mail server accounts in T-bird.

Today, it's happening again. I can't seem to resolve the issue even though I've been through the process of providing requested information and permissions. I can't get T-bird to connect to servers to look for downloadable messages. This is a problem that is keeping me from using 2-step verification with several websites that I need to contact. I say that T-bird isn't connecting because the messages that normally appear when I request downloads do not appear at the bottom of my screen. The problem started with the first screen below and has now migrated to the second screen. I tried sending test email among my accounts, both gmail and others, but I cannot. As far as I can tell, T-bird is sending the messages to servers but not retrieving them, but I cannot be sure they were sent. As I was typing this sentence the second screen below popped up without my doing anything with email.

I don't recall what I've done in the past to resolve the issue. IIRC it has required different acts at different times. Today, nothing seems to work. If this continues, I'm going to have to find another email client after having used T-Bird for more than a decade.

Can someone please tell me how to get off this merry-go-round?

I am trying to add a Gmail account to Thunderbird. After clicking Continue from the configuration window, the system shows a 'Waiting for authorisation in login popup' window with a rotating circle, which eventually finishes and the window says 'Authentication error. Unable to log in at server. . . .'. As I understand it, the login popup window should be from Google asking me to confirm that it is OK for Thunderbird to connect to the Gmail server. It looks like that Google popup is being blocked. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the Google permission popup to appear?

I've been trying to add gmail account to thunderbird, but everytime the built-in browser get stucked. I tried open the url in edge, but after authorizing it says localhost reject to connect. I've also closed all the firewall but it didn't help. The picture uploaded is where i get stucked. I've erased the password part. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Any time I try to load a webpage on Firefox, I get the error which states "Firefox can’t connect to the server". This occurs when the DNS over HTTPS setting is set to 'off' or 'default'. When the DNS over HTTPS is set to 'custom', the error displayed is "Firefox can’t protect your request for this site’s address through our secure DNS provider. Here’s why: Firefox wasn’t able to connect to firefox.dns.nextdns.io." (it's the same for next DNS or cloudfare).

When I initially opened the DNS over HTTPS settings, this message was displayed: "DNS over HTTPS is not working because we encountered an error (NS_ERROR_CONNECTION_REFUSED) while trying to use the provider Cloudflare". However, this message went away and I have not been able to replicate it.

I have already tried everything suggested in the support article "Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can". I do not have any antivirus software installed. I reconfigured the proxy settings to no proxy. I changed the IPv6 settings. I changed the DNS Prefetching settings. Nothing has worked.

Safari works perferctly fine, Chrome is giving me similar errors.

Hi All, I have been sending emails through Android Thunderbird, but they aren't being synced to the server, so I can't see them anywhere else. I've set the Sent folder to sync (as well as the Inbox). Pressing the sync button just spins the indicator, but doesn't actually sync. When I try to move or copy messages, an error comes up saying that messages can't be copied or moved that aren't synconised. How can all my messages (sent, inbox, everything) be synced so that I can see them everywhere? I've just turned on sync debugging, will see the results soon.

my isp no longer supports Thunderbird. When I try to log onto my thunderbird account it won't let me connect to the server. I can check my email by logging on to their website and using their email program, but I would like to keep Thunderbird. I have been using it for year. Is there a way I can get their server to recognize thunderbird when I try and log on to it. The ISP is Breezeline....thanks

I have been using Thunderbird for months on my new computer. Last night when I brought it up, a new screen said "Unable to Connect" followed by good information like check the network connection, firewall, etc., make sure Thunderbird is permitted to access the web. Plus, the PC bubble communicated "Authentication failure when trying to connect to server imap.comcast.net".

I have checked everything (looked around) and all seems fine. However, I am a "senior" and maybe I missed some communication along the way. I am getting emails on my iPhone and on the Xfinity website, but Thunderbird is not connecting to the server now. Do I need to change any settings?
