My host, Network Solutions, did a huge security update on March 16th (2022). All of my email stopped working, both incoming and outgoing. I finally got my POP3 working, but SMTP still won't transmit email. It works when I use their browser-based webmail client. I just need to get it working through Thunderbird.

First I get the message that Thunderbird has "connected", then a long wait. Then it gives up with the error message "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.terraforming.com timed out." (I have my own domain name, and NetSol is both my registrar and my host.) I contacted NetSol, and they "reset the SMTP server", and told me to try it 4 hours later. It's been 11 hours, and the same thing is still happening. I only have the most basic Symantec anti-virus, and haven't changed any security settings on my PC.

I don't know if the problem is at NetSol's end, or mine (with Thunderbird). What is the process that takes place after my mail client supplies the password, and it is accepted and "connected" to the SMTP server? Which entity takes control of the transmission? Does the SMTP server have to send an ACK back to Thunderbird before it begins to send? Is Thunderbird sending the message and the SMTP server doesn't acknowledge that it received it?

Because of the nature of the original problem, I suspect NetSol, but I need to confirm that there is not something that could be causing the issue on my end.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

I am having an issue where I will reply to an email thread and then when the other party responds it moves every email that I've had in that string back to the top and marks them unread thus cluttering my inbox. Is there any way that I could fix this?

Fresh install of Fedora 35 Workstation. Installed Thunderbird (first via flatpack, then with rpm, both giving the same result).

Incredibly laggy UI. For example, To switch from "Home" to "Tasks" takes about 5 seconds after clicking the tab. All of the actions in the UI are the same way.

I tried re-installing Fedora, with and without proprietary drivers. Same experience. Installed Ubuntu Gnome. Thunderbird works fine in that OS.

System is a Threadripper Pro 3955WX w/Supermicro motherboard. 64G of RAM. 2x Radeon Pro 2100s.

Deleting non-attached, inline images from an email

This is a follow up to the Feb '21 thread 'Deleting JUST a photo in a sent or received email - not the text.' (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1325776) which is now archived and not able to be responded to.

The answer there was: "You need to change the view from 'Original HTML' to 'Plain Text'. 'Menu app icon' > 'View' > 'Message Body as' > select 'Plain Text' This removes formatting and the image will be shown as an attachment and my previous comment info will then work.

If you then go back to : 'Menu app icon' > 'View' > 'Message Body as' > 'Original Html', you will notice the image is replaced by an empty black outline."

The problem is as of v91, this no longer works. The images instead now show up in the email as a cid link: ex: "[cid:image002.jpg@01D783AB.C3B95BB0]"

What is the current way to delete these out?

I am using Firefox 98.0(64 bit) on Ubuntu 18.04 and it crashes sometimes while i am browsing. I have downloaded the tar file from the official site and then installed it manually on my system. To debug this this time i opened the firefox from terminal and waited for it to crash. After some time while i was browsing, it suddenly crashed as i expected. The output that i got after the crash on the terminal was: ``` user@user-Inspiron-xxxx:~$ /usr/lib/firefox/./firefox

What is the cause of this crash and how to solve it. After the crash i also typed: about:crashes on the address bar of the browser but when i pressed enter, i got a blank page on the top which No crash reports have been submitted was written.

I have noticed that sometimes the firefox browser crashes when a video is playing. This has happened multiple times now. To debug the issue, this time i started the browser using terminal so that when the browser crash i will see the message on the terminal. This time i was watching a youtube video. And while the video was playing the browser first hangs(meaning the screen/video freezes and browser doesn't respond to any clicks or anything) for first 2-3 minutes and then it crashes. This time since i had started the firefox from terminal, after the crash i got the following printed out on the terminal: ``` user@user-Inspiron-xxxx:~$ /usr/lib/firefox/./firefox Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. CPU time limit exceeded (core dumped) ``` I am using Ubuntu 18.04 and Firefox version 98.0(64 bit). I have downloaded the tar file of this version from Mozilla's official site and then installed it manually on my machine. Can someone help me solve the issue and also tell me the reason for this crash.

I was using Firefox as usual when Bitdefender, my antivirus app, apparently caught a Firefox-related file it thought was malicious and either quarantined or deleted it.

Now, Firefox will not display any websites at all. The other web browser on my computer Microsoft Edge, displays the websites just fine and is not having issues. But not Firefox.

I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Firefox, to no avail. I also tried to restart my computer, again to no avail.

What do I need to do to have Firefox back up and running again?

True or False? If this box is checked I can quit Firefox altogether which tabs still open, and those same tabs will automatically load again upon reopening Firefox.

(Upon writing back, please refrain from thanking me for anything.)

Everything was working fine in Thunderbird for a LONG time. A few minutes ago I opened it and instead of opening normally it opened to a page called 'account setup'. There was another tab called 'home' that had buttons for email, calendar, address book, etc. Clicking email took me to the account setup page again.

HOW DO I GET IT BACK TO NORMAL?????

Thunderbird has pretty much been crashing at least once per day for a long time. (two years). I'm generally just too busy/lazy to submit the crash reports but I have submitted about 30 as recently as today and will continue.

STEPS TAKEN

  • Running the Latest version of Thunderbird ( 91.5.1 32-bit )
  • Safe Mode. Still crashes.
  • I only have 4 extensions and while one is not quite ready for TB91, removing it doesn't affect how often it crashes.
  • the extensions are Expression NG, Manually sort folders, Provider for Google Calenday and Remove Duplicates.
  • I have completely reinstalled Thunderbird at least once. I do have a LOT of mail, but I have plenty of memory and drive space.

Hi, thanks for your time. I've been using thunderbird since 2005 , a week ago tried to open it but my accounts where lost prompting me to create an account ! Version was 91.7 (x64) . I immediately tried to restore my profile with the usual way but no luck. Finally I installed an older version and restored an older profile . Now after consecutive updates I am on the latest version , I can get and sent mails but every time I open it keeps asking me to add security exception . If it helps , same day my firefox (latest x64 version) lost access to internet whereas other browsers like chrome or opera were fine. Firefox and thunderbird where installed at default path c:\ but thunderbird profile was in another hdd. 3 gmails, 1 aol, 1 yahoo, 1 hotmail win 7 x64 8gb ram , 3 disks

Thanks in advance.

A few days ago Thunderbird stopped downloading and sending emails citing time out. I'm using W10 and have the latest build of TB as of today but it's made no difference. It works fine on my other computer which is older and it's always worked fine for two years on this computer. Any advice would be fantastic, thank you.

Using Thunderbird-91.8.0 on Xubuntu-20, Thunderbird has suddenly decided that hyperlinks in emails I receive are instead feed subscription requests. When I click on a hyperlink, Thunderbird throws the error "you already have a subscription to this feed" instead of opening the link in my default browser (firefox). I have tried revering to an earlier version of Thunderbird, checked in prefs.js that "network.protocol-handler.app.http" and "network.protocol-handler.app.https" both point to "/usr/bin/firefox %s", restarted in "troubleshooting mode" with all add-ons disabled, but nothing has helped. Any ideas?
