I couldn't find a better place to post this, so I'm trying on here.

I'm in the market for a tablet (high-end), and I'm holding off on getting an Android-powered one because of Firefox OS. However, I have some general questions and concerns regarding performance, software and hardware. Here they are.

1. Is the Firefox OS interface as responsive as a native experience on say an iPad or an Android tablet? (Is there any lag on swipes between screens, button presses, etc?) If not, will it be in the future?

2. Will I miss the Android marketplace or the Apple app store, being restricted to only HTML5 apps? Do you think this will become an irrelevant question as the HTML5 app ecosystem grows?

3. Do you think the quality of HTML5 apps will be inferior to those from existing app stores because they are free?

4. Will the Firefox browser be the only one available in Firefox OS? (i.e. will there be the option to use Chrome, Opera or any other browser if the user so wishes?)

5. Will Firefox OS include useful utility apps, such as an alarm clock, a calendar, a weather app, etc?

6. I read a lot, both on the web (news, video game reviews), as well as ebooks. Will Firefox OS on a tablet be a pleasant experience conducive to e-reading? (Will it include a good ebook reader app?)

7. Will there be a high-end Firefox OS tablet that is comparable in specs to the Nexus 10? (i.e. impressive screen resolution, powerful CPU/GPU, lots of inputs/outputs like USB, HDMI, microSD, etc) When do you think such a device might become available?

8. Would it be possible to flash Firefox OS onto say a Nexus 10 or other tablet or phone if one wanted to use it as their OS instead?

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for reading my post, when I heard about Firefox releasing a Mobile OS for Android I was filled with joy, I know a lot of work is needed to get it user friendly and bug free but its great to hear this.

I am curious on a few things really and here are my questions some might be easy some might not have answers just yet.

I have a HTC Desire X smartphone would I be able to install Firefox OS onto this? If "Yes" will it be an easy installation or will I need Linux background to fully understand its process?

Any dates yet on its release?

Will Mozilla be releasing this out in the market were you get a choice of IOS, Android, Windows and Firefox phones? or will it be only be available to download manually and install?

Thanks for answering and all the best Mozilla :)

Best regards,

My tablet is using Android 4.0. (ICS)

The Coby website for the MID9740 says it has an Allwinner Cortex™-A8 however that is misleading, as this is really an AllWinner A10, which is a cortex A8 ARM CPU.to be accurate) The Cortex A8 is based on the ARMv7 architecture. It also has 1GB RAM, and cpu is 1 GHz. Out of the box,(and not rooted) it can't access the Google Play for FirefoxOS download. If I root it, I can download from Google. I'm not afraid to root my tablet, but I know many others' are. I had it rooted before using ClockworkMod, but decided to restore to factory.(similar to a routine bi-annual reformat with Windows and Linux on my desktop) I was just wondering if AndroidPit or any other sites have the beta available to test out on my Kyros. Could you please let me know? Thanks for your kind help, and have a great day! Best regards always,

Hello,

I want to develop an app based on ambient light sensor. But I found that the performance of sensor is quite better than the light sensor api. For example, the sensor can get ambient light info. 100,000 times per second, but the api just can read datas 20 times per second. So, that is my question. I want to change the performance of ambient light sensor API. So, I want to develop a new ambient light sensor api. But, I have no idea about how to develop an api based on firefox os. And, I didn't even know could it be developed by individual. So, if someone knows, can you tell me ?

Thanks a lot><

for a $80 device, ZTE open works great, however, the browser kept stuck at webpages that is too complex, such as WSJ, etc.

I am unsure if this can be solved due to small RAM on the device, however, wsj does have a mobile site, which is not called by the browser. If the browser can be fixed to call mobile website whenever possible, or if it has a function to re-arrange complex website into simple version. That would be perfect.

When messages are sent with information to place in a web browser to register the phone for access to specific sites there is no way to either select the website link and copy it and or click the link and be redirected to the website via the firefox browser. Is this functionality available? Would be nice to be able to do this so I don't have to write the information down and then type it in on the tiny keyboard.

I just received a ZTE Open device in the mail today, and after playing around with it a bit, I noticed that every time I tried to check for system updates, it would show me one 13.xx MB update, which I downloaded, apparently applied, and the phone seemed to restart itself, but then I would be shown the same (??) update available. The phone is without a SIM card, just playing with it connected via Wifi, with the 4GB microSD card installed. Then, this evening, I got an error message, which apparently was recorded on the SD card, a file called recovery.log (contents follow):

The SD card also contains a zip file in updates/fota/update.zip, which in turn contains patch/system/P752D04_DEV_US_20130726.zip, which contains: amss.mbn (about 20 meg) and boot.img (about 4 meg).

I've used the e-mail app successfully for most of the time I've had my ZTE. In the last two weeks it stopped working. It displays all the messages in my inbox, but when I tap on a message it hangs and I get the eternal blue arrow circling.

Yes, I have restarted, I have taken the battery, the SD card and the SIM card out to reset the device. And, yes, I have devolved and installed the older version of the OS from the ZTE download site.

Does anyone know what's going on?
