I upgraded from FF 38 to 46 and found that the 38 about:config was over written and any changes that were made in 38 were lost; in particular I had set "browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML" and "browser.bookmarks.file". Is this a bug or intentional? In either case, if the files in the new are different and new rules have been added, then the files should be merged, not overwritten.

See question above. This has happened with numerous updates -- data destroyed, passwords, formatting and add-ons and bookmarks are lost by the thousands. This has stopped us cold as a company, losing significant revenues and much labor time to try and repair.

Why the f*ck does Firefox think it is okay to destroy customers data, disrupt their business materially and leave the customer holding the bag WITH NO IN-PERSON LIVE SUPPORT AVAILABLE FROM FIREFOX/MOZILLA TO REMEDIATE THE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS THEY HAVE CAUSED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

As a prompt to the "upgrade" to 46.0, Firefox has the nerve to ask the question: "Would you like to "freshen up" your Firefox?" HOW DARE THEY?

I FOR ONE WANT TO KNOW WHO AT FIREFOX IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS!!!!

I EXPECT A PHONE CALL FROM THAT PERSON -- I HAVE CALLED INTO THEIR MOUNTAIN VIEW OFFICE THREE TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE AND I AM LOSING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AS OUR WHOLE TEAM WAS "UPGRADED" AT THE SAME TIME AND SO OPERATIONS JUST STOPPED.

COULD ANYONE IN THE SUPPORT GROUP WHO KNOWS THE ORGANIZATION, PLEASE PROVIDE A NAME AND CONTACT INFO INCLUDING PHONE FOR THE PERSON ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS COMPLETE S***-SHOW.

THANK YOU.

I use a Macbook Pro. I have scoured the internet for answers to this adware problem. I have cleared the two add-ons I had on Firefox (I don't like too have too many - one was speed dial and one was the add-to-speeddial button). I have reset Firefox, and then when that option disappeared from the menu (I'm fairly sure that shouldn't happen?), I refreshed it instead, as that was the only choice left to me. I have uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it. I have updated it to the latest version. I have created a new profile, in fact more than one, since it keeps asking me to do this. The Adware is still there -it doesn't appear on all web pages I visit, just most of them. HELP ME SOMEONE?!! LOL It's driving me nuts!

My company has x32 and x64 machines. It's VERY, VERY inconvenient when both installation files have the same name. All other well-known software developers release their installation files with DIFFERENT name. It has became GOOD PRACTICE, and what's more - THE SIGN OF A GOOD FORM to give corresponding name to different platform installators:

Google Chrome Browser: GoogleChromeStandaloneEnterprise.msi GoogleChromeStandaloneEnterprise64.msi

Firebird SQL Server: Firebird-3.0.0.32483_2_Win32.exe Firebird-3.0.0.32483_2_x64.exe

7Zip File Archiver: 7z1600.exe 7z1600-x64.exe

The Bat Mail Client: thebat_32_7-1-18.msi thebat_64_7-1-18.msi

And a lot of others. I have read the typical noncommittal answer from Firefox contributor: "Our installators are uploaded at different servers, so you can download x32 and x64 files in your different folders". It's not an answer. It's just rubbish.

PLEASE GIVE DIFFERENT NAME FOR x32 and x64 installators!!!

Recently starting up Firefox after an update to 46, the software acted as if I had never used it before and I had to 'log in'. My sync information has regressed back to a way it was years ago. My bookmarks are stale and new ones missing. I have two other computers I log into with firefox browsing. I'm afraid to check with those to see that they have crashed too.

Can someone explain what went down and why the browser has lost the most recent configuration I had been using?

Hi all; apologies for the long post.

All of the major browsers recently dumped applets or intend to, including Firefox. I have spent the last five years developing a ranking engine web site and software based around a 64,839 line Applet that needs to pass customised ranking criteria back to the server once the user has finished modifying the preset criteria to their needs (the ranking criteria is stored as graphs).

Web Start is simply not going to do the job and its too big a project to start from scratch and rebuild it in something else. The whole project, including test data SQL code is over 234,000 lines of code and was due to be launched in March next year. Seriously, they could not have picked a worse time to dump Applets.

The following is a bit of an overview of the engine. Please; to any Mozilla staff reading this, this engine is well worth supporting...

Even if just one browser supported Applets, I could convince people to switch browsers. This technology will change the web and computing like no other, and will attract a lot of users, so I would please ask that Mozilla consider reinstating the option of running Applets. The web site is only a product ranking engine for retail products at present, but will expand into other areas at a latter date. It can capture a knowledgeable expert's ranking knowledge, for virtually any retail product, and then make it available for anyone to use at the click of a button.

The engine is based on an abstract theory for how the human brain uses neural networks to rank things for us. The engine is capable of ranking pretty much anything the human brain can rank. Like the human brain, it is capable of ranking entities that have absolutely no attributes in common within the ranking criteria (I'm not really sure what that can be used for yet). It can also use any attribute, that the brain uses to rank things, for which we have no formal system of measurements. This is possible through the use of graphs to capture, edit and store the ranking criteria. Essentially, if an entity type has describable attributes, then it can be ranked by this engine.

If the user is always willing to accept the highest ranked entity, then it can be used to capture a large number of decision processes which use ranking of a set of options, and which do not make use of the imagination. It can then accurately emulate that decision process. This technology will allow Robotics, AI and Software Agents to make a large number of decisions the way that we do.

This theory is part of a wider theory for how the human brain generates most all emotions and feelings, including those for interactions and the Ego, using neural networks. This theory was developed over a period of 17 years. The ranking engine was merely a byproduct of this work.

This is no pie in the sky theory, the engine has been fully functional for over two years, and is currently ranking 1225 digital cameras using 89 attributes. It is only the background administration of the web site that needs finishing. I also have an Australian Provisional Patent "METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR RANKING ENTITIES - AU2016900828" (http://www.ipaustralia.com.au/applicant/wegner-ronald-robert/patents/AU2016900828/). My patent attorney firm, Spruson & Ferguson based in Sydney Australia, would never allow a hoax to tarnish their reputation.

If anyone at Mozilla is reading this, please consider keeping the option of Applets!

Kind Regards, Robbie Wegner

Having a problem with one particular webpage. Have deleted an DNS unlocker from my programs, run malwarebytes to remove a pup, run firefox in safe mode which is fine, and refreshed firefox, which then works ok only for a couple of browsing sessions before the problem returns. The problem being, the page hangs and then becomes unresponsive, but only on this website. Have successfully done this twice but the problem still returns. My operating system is windows 7.

Upon opening firefox a few days ago,the entire screen was different with no arrows, buttons, etc to move around so I hard closed it. The next time I tried to open firefox it would not respond. I did a system restore which did not work so I went back to an earlier restore point and now my computer states that it has found an error and needs to reboot which is is stuck in a loop doing over and over. At the bottem it states "critical system error found" and says to look into when the computer comes back up which it never does. What kind of program/virus was unleashed? I probably will have to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows and all the other programs I had. I am NOT a happy camper to say the least. What did you do, or what did some hacker of your system do? I am using a friend's computer as if the reinstallation does not work I will need to take it in to be repaired so I cannot take a picture of the blue screen that I get.

Our hospital EHR software has a feature that will display the text of a nurses note when a button is clicked in the documents library for the patient. When the button is pressed using FireFox, the window appears, the text appears for a split second and then the box is blank. This feature works well in IE 10 & 11, also in G Chrome and in all browsers the window displays 'about:blank' in the address line. Many of our users (me included) prefer FF and if this issue can be resolved, it would be a real help. I've tried various things recommended by others online; safe mode testing (Neg), clearing cache (Neg), displaying the details window in a tab (Neg).
