Could you help me with the upload of an mbox file?

I have Thunderbird up and running with the extension ImportExportToolsNG.

When I use the menu Tools/ImportExportToolsNG/import mbox file nothing happens. (screen shot of menu selection attached)

I have the mbox file stored on an external disk but I see no pop up screen that enables to to find and select the mbox file.

Currently I'm not using Thunderbird as an email client. For the time being I'm using it to read and search through older gmail emails as a backup.

I have tried to install the working add-on Shrunked Image Resizer on TB 68.9.0 but I get the message that it is 'not signed' and so it will not load. Am I doing something wrong? I can see other TB users are using this add on. I have only recently upgraded TB to 68.9.0.

I've been using Mozilla account xxx@prodigy.net fro many years. I'd like to switch to a different account yyy@prodigy.net. Would it be possible just to use old profile with all it's directories and just modify userid/password for pop3 and smtp entries under tools/account settings under xxx account? I have multiple folders under xxx account so I thought that I sould continue using them, just the new e-mails will come from yyy account. I could forward all my new incoming mail from xxx to yyy. Would this approach work? Thanks, Yuri

My PC with Thunderbird installed and running shut down suddenly as a result of a fire on the motherboard. I was able to recover the hard drive and copy most of my files etc to a new machine. I followed the instructions for transferring the thunderbird profiles from the hard disc to my new machine.

Although the transferred profiles on the new machine appear to contain folders and emails, they will not load into the programme and the thunderbird display remains devoid of any user data. I then tried to do the transfer using MosBackup. This told me that the profile was damaged.

I know that migration should take place with thunderbird shut down, but unfortunately the shut down of the old machine was sudden and catastrophic and did not shut down thunderbird in a planned way.

Please can anyone help.

I am keeping my hard drive but moving Windows to a SSD. I currently run Windows 10 Pro on a 64-bit machine but run Thunderbird 32-bit. I have previously moved my Thunderbird profiles off C: and onto another drive/partition (for several reasons). I am using this build as a reason to try and upgrade some processes including backups. I have a few questions about Thunderbird that I can't seem to find the answers to.

It seems that the Thunderbird 64-bit version is new. Is it wise to upgrade now?

In some places I have seen people say that I should uninstall the 32-bit version before installing the 64-bit version, but, other people say I don't have to. What are the issues, concerns, and, problems with upgrading to the 64-bit version when I already have the 32-bit version installed?

In looking at changing my backup processes, I have considered renaming and/or moving the folder location of my Thunderbird profiles. I know where to change those locations in Thunderbird. But, to make it easier in the future, is it possible to use an environment variable to help specify the file name? Something like "%my_email_folder/steve%" where in the future I can move or rename the folder/files in Windows and just change an environment variable? Is there another way to accomplish this in Thunderbird?

Concerning backups, specifically for Thunderbird, does Mozilla have a recommended scheme for backups or an app/tool to do backups of Thunderbird profiles/data? My backup process will handle Windows and application backups, but, this question is about the Thunderbird data. I am trying to separate applications and their data as much as possible to make backups/restores more efficient and effective.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have recently migrated to latest Thunderbird (68.10.0, 64 -bit), and manged to import all the mailboxes from Eudora 7, which I have used for about 30 years.

However, some of the messages in these migrated mailboxes do not display message contents, only the headings From, Subject, To. Nothing in the body of the messages. It affects only some of the messages, not all.

I have no clues on why this is happening, and which settings have I missed. Please help.

Hi there, I am currently working from home using 2 laptops with both TB installed. One has a TB profile with several personal email accounts, and the other has a work email account. I would like to import the latter to the former without having 2 separate profiles to select from on start up of the programme. Instead just the one with all my email accounts in one place. NB because of the crisis I and my colleagues are working from home and cannot reach the person who could normally send me the configuration details so I can set it up manually. Thanks for your time! kind regards, Peter.

Long back story: My still-under-warranty work laptop was making a grinding noise. Remote diagnosis was a bad hard drive. Amazingly, I have on site repair (it must have been a special promo deal) but they had to order the replacement hard drive and hook me up with a technician. Figuring was going to lose everything on that hard drive, I made a copy of my Thunderbird profile (and many other files), installed Thunderbird on another laptop, restored the profile and kept working. The second laptop was supposed to be for non-work stuff, so it has less memory, a smaller HD, slower processor, etc.

Two days later the on site tech came and installed the new hard drive but the computer was still grinding. He determined the old hard drive was fine, it was the fan that needed to be replaced, so he put in an order for a new fan. I mentioned that the power connector was loose, so he also ordered a new motherboard. Two days later he's back with the fan and motherboard, but the power connector isn't part of the motherboard, so he has to order that part, and now it's July 4th weekend. He came back today and replaced the power connector, and, because there was nothing wrong with the original hard drive, he reinstalled that, too.

All in all, I used the non-work laptop for seven days. I backed up the Thunderbird profile from the non-work laptop, restored it to the work laptop, started Thunderbird, and realized that I had screwed up and backed up the profile in the appdata/local/thunderbird folder rather than the appdata/roaming/thunderbird folder. Then I started Thunderbird. There is a week's worth of email missing from my work laptop, but now there is a day's worth of new mail on it that isn't on the other one.

I save a lot of email. I use layers of folders and subfolders. My profile folder is 41.7 GB. Windows 10. POP mail server. Automatically download new messages and nothing is saved on the server.

Is there a way to selectively copy messages received and sent within a specific date range and somehow fill in that missing week?

I'm afraid that if I backup the roaming profile from the second computer and restore it to my work computer, I will duplicate everything in my ginormous profile.

Why is the 78.0.1 download for MacOS called "Firefox 78.0.1esr.dmg" and not "Firefox 78.0.1.dmg"?

The download dialogue (image attached) that appeared said that it wanted to download "Firefox 78.0.1esr.dmg". The "esr" in the filename surprised me, as I'm not on any ESR release train. Why is it named that and not "Firefox 78.0.1.dmg", similar to its predecessors?

I have an older PC that I have been using with Win 7 as its OS. It's still there on one of the three HDDs that's in the PC. I have since added a fourth drive, which is a WD Blue SSD which is 560 MB/s big, and has Windows 10 installed and running on it, when I start up this PC.

How do I go about replacing the Microsoft software with Firefox and Thunderbird? The Win 10 software is different than Win 7 so I don't know how to use very well. And the Win 10 instructions don't exactly match up with the Win 10 that is installed on my PC, so if some-body could list some of the steps that are more accurate than what MS has given, I would appreciate it.

Hi.

I am running both the current Firefox (version 68.10.0) and the new (later to be the new beta) Firefox (version 78.0.0-beta.1). I am very confused with the current way the updates work. The old version of Firefox does not update now, but the new version does not appear to me. I mistakenly took the “Mozilla Firefox Browser” as the new and the replacement to “Firefox Browser”, but it turns out that the new version was a beta. I am running Android 10, but doesn’t have Auto-update turned on, for fear of getting the “Storage is running out” prompt.

I wanna know if when will the new update rolls out completely to users like me, and will it be an update to the current browser. Alternatively, I want to have this thing not happen again in the future.

Thank you.

I should have mentioned that the uneducated answer provided could not even be replied to. A good way for the uneducated robot to hide, you get one try and that’s it. Then as I said they moved on to something easy and that does not require any brain power. Mozilla might be around for a while longer, however if this is the way they want to treat clients they may not last too long.

Hi,

We're using Thunderbird for email and want to add our new Microsoft Office 365 hosted emails to it. We've got it set up and can receive emails, but when we try to send, Thunderbird will not accept, and keeps asking for, the password for my account on the outlook.office365.com server. Is this a compatibility issue with TB/O365, or do I have it configured wrong?

TIA
