This is one of the more annoying messages Firefox has recently added:

"Your browser is being managed by your organisation."

It is obviously wrong, because it is shown on a private Ubuntu 24.04 computer where I have myself installed Firefox from a tarball installation (Firefox version 142.0.1).

The about:policies page just shows: Homepage: URL "https://start.ubuntu-mate.org/"

  Locked	false
  StartPage	"homepage"

Why does Firefox give such obviously misleading information? All the other articles are not helpful at all either, some are talking about security software, some about malware.

This is an extremely user-unfriendly and confusing message: if security software is to blame, why does Firefox not tell what exactly is restricted? When malware changed something why does Firefox not tell what it changed? What even does the message actually imply, what is prevented what otherwise would work and why? What does the information shown on the about:policies page really tell me?

This is by the way shown when starting Firefox using an EMPTY directory for its profile (so making it use a brand new profile), running from a brand new installation directory extracted from a tar file. So what on earth makes it think it is "managed by my organization"?

There is no extension installed, no policies.json file in the newly created profile, nothing. It looks as if the firefox browser would just arrive with this weird setting/configuration comiled right into it?

Will Firefox ever be updated to use end to end encryption so that users of Facebook Messenger can do audio and video chats as they did before META's change?

If not, Mozilla could lose a lot of Firefox users of Facebook Messenger. That includes me. I have been with FF since v0.93 :-P

Messenger audio and video chats work fine on several other browsers including Brave. There is even a Messenger App on the Microsoft store.

I would really like to see someone at Mozilla answer this.

I've been backing up my opened tabs for the past 4 or 5 years with the steps in this legendary post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1257866

But this time it failed me and I don't know why. I just switched from Debian to Linux Mint, put everything up to date, but when I copy the sessions-store folder back into my session folder, as described in the post, nothing happens. I tried restoring only the 2 files listed there, and also dropping them in the general user folder, outside sessions-store, but still nothing. I've also noticed that the sessions-store folder isn't created automatically, even if I open a bunch of new tabs now and close the browser.

I don't even know how to begin troubleshooting this to be honest, this is the first time this method's ever failed me :(

I also saw this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-restore-browsing-session-backup But it doesn't help either.

I’m trying to install the latest version of Firefox on Debian, as described at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux#w_install-firefox-deb-package-for-debian-based-distributions. I’ve tried twice, several days apart, but both times things fail at the third step, with the fingerprint not matching. Can I do anything besides try again later? I’m using Firefox ESR, as packaged by Debian, in the meantime.

I recently got a new machine and loaded it with Linux Mint 21.3 - Cinnamon, FF 142.0 and Bitwarden Version: 2025.8.2 along with the usual cadre of extensions that I use on every other machine I have.

When I first start Firefox, Bitwarden autofill suggestions does not work, autofill from the "Fill" button in Bitwarden does not work and returns an error. The only thing that works is to individually and manually copy the username, paste it, then copy the password and paste it.

If I log out of Reddit and then try to log back in, the autofill suggestions works and the "Fill" button also works.

This is only on Firefox and only on the fresh start of the app. This does not occur on Chrome and I have not tried (and don't want to try) it on Windows.

Hi,

When I first open Firefox, everything will be normal. But after opening a menu (e.g. dropdown from the bookmarks bar, or downloads menu next to address bar) for the second or maybe more time, the menu will show up in the wrong location, maybe halfway across or down the screen. I am usually able to bring my mouse over to where it is shown and click the buttons, although sometimes the buttons show a hover animation when my mouse is where they are *supposed* to be and I must reopen the menu to be able to interact with the buttons where they are actually shown. Contracting the window fixes the problem, but it comes right back when I maximize the window. It will also happen with tooltips, such as the name of a tab when I hover over it.

I am using Fedora 42 GNOME Wayland with two monitors, one at 125% scaling and other at 100% scaling; the issue happens on both, but independently of each other. I have tried enabling the Firefox setting for fractional scaling, but nothing was fixed. Any way to make menus show up where they are supposed to?

I need to recover a `.jsonlz4` file to restore a Firefox session with 8 active instances, as the "Restore Session" feature only opened 5 due to the `browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo` setting being capped at 5, and the full original `.jsonlz4` file is now missing.

In the`firefox/Crash Reports` directory, there are numerous files I can’t interpret, can I retrieve my session data via telemetry or other methods using this crash information. I’m using Linux Mint with Flatpak Firefox, and I also have crash logs containing a "last crash" text file and a string of numbers, could these be useful for getting back my session?

What settings should I use to get the chat window to work on FireFox. The website is https://system76.com. I login and try to use the chat feature and it does not work. The chat feature does work on Chrome. I tired allowing notifications in Firefox settings, but that did not work. Are their any other setting should try?

I checked the box Allow Firefox to automatically apply exceptions required to avoid major website breakage and it worked, but I don't understand how this selection affects overall security.
