Firefox informed me this morning that an update was available. In the small window in which this information appeared, there was a button marked "Update Now". I pressed the button and was shown a horizontal bar with a short bar coloured dark grey moving from left to right. The text in the window said that Firefox was being updated. Unfortunately, that "updating" can go on forever with nothing to show for it. So eventually, I have to close the window myself (using the window manager).

So, my question is: Why does the updating mechanism not work for Linux?

Firefox version 27.0.1, laptop computer. Home page is CNN. I did not click on anything on that page, but did a Google search for quilting information. Now no matter what page I'm on, I hear several news stories repeating - the first one is about Barbie being on the cover of SI's swimsuit issue. Why am I hearing audio?

When I was using Internet Explorer & saw this message, I was able to switch to "Compatibity View" which corrected the problem. I'm not sure how to correct it with Firefox.....

As an example: http://m.joystiq.com/2014/02/16/plants-vs-zombies-garden-warfare-live-action-trailer-brings-the/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000598

There is an MP4 video on the site, which plays fine in Chrome and Android browser. In Firefox, I get to see the preview image with the grey "play" symbol over it, but once I hit it all I get is black screen with audio.

Most of the messages I've seen around this type of error talk about Flash plug-in installs, etc. AFAIK, mp4 isn't flash. I've disabled all my add-ons.

I'm on an HTC One, Android 4.4.2.

Any suggestions?

I'm great fan of airplanes. There is one website: www.passur.com, which gives in near real time the traffic over some of the US Airports. For example the link: www4.passur.com/jfk gives all the in-bound and outbound traffic to/from JFK airport. This page requires Java. I installed it and everything was OK. But from some time - 2-3 months - every time I try to open and watch the traffic there is message saying "application blocked" and in the message box is written - on the first line "Name: A"; on the second line "location: www4.passur.com"; on the third (last) line is written "your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running"; and on the right bottom corner there is a button "OK". The question is how to unblock this and to view the webpage. Thanks in advance.

After downloading the new update, my headphones randomly started losing the sound and I get this sound like a fax machine underwater and I can't hear what I was listening to. I have to shut down my computer to get it to come back on normally, only to have it randomly do it again. As the computer shuts down you can hear a loud popping sound. I went back to a previous save and did not install the update for a day and it was it was working fine again. Then I installed the update again and within hours it began to happen again. Went back to the previous save and did not install the update for the last 3 days and no issues. I would like to be able to install the update but not if it means losing sound and having to shut down. I watch tv on my computer and it's a huge pain to get a movie loaded only to shut down because I can't hear it, then reload and maybe 20 mins. or an hour later same thing. And it seems to be entirely random when it occurs.

I tried to follow the instructions to reset my Firefox to hopefully stop the frequent crashes we experience. The instructions say something like, "at the top of the Firefox window, click the Firefox button and go to help....". Well I don't even know how to access this Firefox page to even get started! I have a "Getting started" thing for Firefox on my toolbar, but it doesn't seem to be the one I'm looking for.

I click on this link and the doc is 'downloaded' automatically , I click on the 'green arrow' download button at top of screen, the page opens and says 'windows photo viewer can't open the picture because photo viewer doesn't support this file format or you don't have the latest update to photo viewer'!! I just want to open the link. Grateful for advice.
