I have an old Windows XP machine and am running Office 2000. In preparation for purchasing a new machine running Windows 7 or later I would like to convert to Thunderbird. In order to retain my current back e-mails and address book, your article on transferring seems to say that I need to have both programs running on the same machine, which, to avoid purchasing a new version of Outlook, inplies doing it on the old machine. However, the article only talks about migrating from Office 2007. Is the procedfure the same for Office 2000?

Thanks

Peter

Trying to use the Thunderbird import function (from yahoo mail) under Tools. After selecting ALL on the first screen the second screen shows import options selected followed by "from:(blank)". The only option at the bottom that is clickable is Cancel. Does this function not work and if so what is the alternative? Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Sincerely,

Dickdelt

My email address ends with @ualberta.ca and not @gmail.com. Thunderbird doesn't seem to accept my email address. It gives me a message saying "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account". I use gmail to access my ualberta.ca email. My password is entered correctly. I've tried putting imap.ualberta.ca, and change ssl to ssl/tls and played around with it but it's not working.

I have installed a new hard disk for my windows 7 computer. It is a new installation of windows 7. The existing disk is now disk F: on the computer. I made a new installation of thunderbird on the new disk. I followed your instructions and copied the profile onto the new disk. The local folders have been transferred but the address book and all the accounts have been lost. Is there any way to get the address book in particular back? If I run thunderbird from the old hard disk (by clicking on the name in the old program files folder) I get the same version up.

Windows Mail -> Thunderbird. Online help does not match program. How to Import?

I'm attempting to follow the Thunderbird directions (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird#w_switching-from-windows-mail-or-windows-live-mail-to-thunderbird) online for Converting from Windows Mail (Not Live Mail) to Thunderbird. I'm at the Import Step. The instructions say:

"In Thunderbird, go to Tools | ImportExport | Import all messages from a directory | Also from its subdirectories."

Under Tools, there is an Import, but no ImportExport. When the Import option is chosen, it does not allow for a directory location, only what to import (Eveything, Mail, Contacts, etc.) When choosing "Import Everything" and pressing "Next" nothing is in the list to import. The "Next" button does nothing and the Cancel Button cancels the entire Import.

Can someone explain (or point to a current and accurate article on) how to import all mail (with local mailboxes and file structures kept intact).

Thanks.

I drilled down to the stored email folders in Carbonite and restored them to a known location. I then tried to import the folders with TB but there are only 3 folders imported and all are empty. The folders are LOCAL FOLDERS, MAIL.COMCAST.NET AND POP3.COMCAST.NET. All of these folders are empty. I tried this several times with the same result. I really need those files! I am using Win 8.1 and TB 24

I want to regularly temporarily move my Thunderbird data to another computer running Thunderbird and then back again later. I am not permanently migrating. I do not want to move all my data from one machine to the other, just my Thunderbird folders, tasks, address book, etc. In Outlook this is accomplished simply by exporting the .pst on one computer and importing on the other. Is there a simple way to accomplish this without using Windows transfer or duplicating everything in Gmail?

Moving to Thunderbird - I am trying to eliminate my use of WinXP and migrate fully to Mac OSX. I have successfully transferred my many dbx folders (3.65GB total of messages) of Outlook Express into TB24.4.0 (as null, msf, and sbd extension files) when both Outlook and XP TB reside on the same XP virtual machine (Parallels) of my Mac. When I attempt to populate TB in the Mac OS10.8.5 side with the files I cannot. With Tools>Import there is no option for Outlook files, just Apple & Eudora mail. From within Mac TB, I am able to locate Profile location (Tools>Acct setup>local folders), but in Finder, it does not appear - is hidden. Thus, neither of these approaches allow import of my emails or replacement of current folders with my emails. In my first step, I was able to transfer the address .wab file to Mac TB using import. No luck since. Advice is appreciated.

Being involved with a number of separate businesses, I have 4 main email accounts which seamonkey has maintained separately, but having migrated to thunderbird I seem to be getting all of the emails combined together and keep picking up the wrong archive when trying to save material. How do I tell thunderbird not to mix up email accounts? I've disabled all but one from the 'global' search, but that does not seem to do anything useful.

Transfer from Outlook to TB works fine and I see all messages. Then I copy the Outlook Import.sbd file to flash drive and drag to the desktop on my MAC. It imports into Apple mail and the folders show but I can't see any messages. Checking in Finder the file contains over 2 GB of data but apparently the format is still off. I have tried several times to no avail!

We have upgraded to Windows 7 from XP, and were unaware that we should have saved our address book and old emails in a separate folder, before backing up. As it is we backed up using a Seagate Back Up Plus, assuming that everything would be simply transferred over when we downloaded it. However, our old emails and inbox etc are not in a format that we can retrieve. Is there any way of accessing this information, or have we lost it. I did see some of the files, but they are either .json or .msc and I cannot open them.I do hope someone can help as the address list would be really useful.

                              Thank you, Sarah

Just updated.

http://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/features says "Under the Help Menu, you can find the Migration Assistant to help you set up Thunderbird the way you want it. If you liked the old toolbar from Thunderbird 2, you can quickly make that change with the Migration Assistant." Migration Assistant isn't listed under Help.

Using v24.6.0.
