It reports that the version of the browser is wrong and that my profile was used with a later version of Firefox. But everything works just fine so how do I fix this error?

Good day!!! I updated my browser today, and after that, everything I had in it was reset, from my account, open tabs (there were over 300 of them), passwords, themes, and everything else. If you don't know how to properly test your updates, then don't update your browser at all. Thanks to you, I lost a lot of information I needed. Thank you!!!!! I'm uninstalling your crappy software and switching to Edge or Chrome.

I have been running version 147.0.2 on Windows 10 Pro. I manually downloaded the version 147.0.3 updater and ran it without any apparent problem. However, when doing the required restart, the update process did not complete. Multiple restarts and cold boots have not remedied this. When I start Firefox using my desktop icon, version 147.0.2 is started.

My "Programs and Features" window shows both versions are installed. When trying to uninstall either version, in either order, I receive a message saying that the system should be restarted to complete the update process. As stated, this does not work.

Following a restart, the Performance Monitor does not show any recognizable "ghost" processes that would need to be stopped.

Inspection of the System event log showed the following Warning:

 * Name resolution for the name push.services.mozilla.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

There may be other warnings / errors that are pertinent to this situation, but that was the only one that mentioned "mozilla" or "firefox" by name.

When I open FF I get the message "Update available. FF couldn't update automatically. Download the new version - you won't lose saved information or customizations. < download > < dismiss >." When I click "help > about", the message box says I'm on the latest version of FF for my Windows 7 computer, 115.32.0esr (32-bit). I understand I need a new computer and that Mozilla isn't providing more updates to those of us left behind. However, I don't recall ever getting messages telling me to download a version when there wasn't an update that I could actually install on my current hardware and OS. Am I missing something by not doing the download to which reference is being made in the cited recurrent message? Can I expect to get this non-actionable "Update available" message from now on? Regards, Long time FF user, dwy

Every SINGLE time Firefox update now, we have to create a new profile, EVERY SINGLE TIME. We loose all our open tabs, passwords, history, bookmarks, everything.

Why is yours the only browser that does this, and how do we stop this from happening.

This is having an effect that is starting to drive me away from using all your products.

Yesterday I tried to update Firefox to 146.0, but the update failed, consistently. Here's what I did: Seeing the usual "There is a new update available"-pop up, I accepted. "About" screen came up. I clicked the button "update to 146.0", but no download started. I waited about 15 minutes, but still no download. I closed the window. Next, I tried the menu option: "Help->About Firefox". "About" screen came up. I clicked the button "update to 146.0". Same as above, no download.

Before anyone asks the obvious questions: Yes, I was connected to the internet the whole time. I checked that by calling up random pages. No, my firewall was not blocking Firefox. No, it was not just one quirky device. I tried it on laptop and desktop both. Yes, I did close and restart Firefox, I even rebooted the devices, and tried again. Same problem.

Now while my workaround (see below) helped, there is still the question of the update process failing in the first place. For me, that brings up two pressing issues at least: 1. Has anyone external tampered with the update process, maybe with malicious intent? It has happened to several software distributors, most recently the guy behind Notepad ++. 2. What happened to people relying on automatic (i.e. not prompting) updates? Did they even notice they were not being updated?

Not a solution, but a workaround: I synced all my setting to my Firefox-account (worked just fine, no problems), downloaded the newest installer, installed the new version on top of the old (worked like a charm), started new version, all just fine. I did not even need to sync my settings back, all was kept intact. Excellent!
