Uninstalled Thurderbird and reinstalled from the web installer.. same thing... Hello, I just re installed Windows 10 and the current version of Thunderbird Mail 115.2.2 64 bit.

My issue is setting up my Proto Mail using the Proton Mail Bridge Program (Which worked for me before the re install). I am having an issue with the Certificate. I have reached out to Proton Mail also but have not had a response yet. I use all the server settings Proton asks us to use but Thunderbird does not see the Certificate as valid.

I can not send mail properly and after initial setup Thunderbird stops updating new mail from Proton

Any help would be appreciated

Regards, Ken

Firefox for Android allows you to register WebAuthn credentials and save them to "this device". You can test this at https://webauthn.io/ . However, I have not been able to find a way to view or remove those credentials saved to "this device". What is the location of where those credentials are saved, and how do I remove them?

Note that these credentials are not visible in Settings > Logins and passwords > Saved logins. That section seems to only be for saved passwords and does not include WebAuthn credentials.

Something in the last few Firefox updates is now preventing me from logging into the admin interface of my home router (Sonicwall TZ570) and wifi access point controller (Unify Cloud Key). I have had these devices for several years and Firefox has always allowed me to make an exception and connect to the "unsecure device. Microsoft Edge is giving me the same problem which started about the same time a couple of weeks ago. I am on the latest version of Windows 10 64bit and Firefox is up to date. The Brave browser still works as it should (see first screenshot), but Firefox gives me the "we could not verify the certificate: reason = untrusted" error with no way around it (see second screenshot). I do not have HTTPS Only Mode enabled (see last screenshot) and I don't see any other security setting that should affect this.

This is my home, not a business and I do not have a domain nor a SSL certificate and I should not need one.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I used to understand this stuff, but have now aged out (91) and am totally lost. In the old days, starting with the 3-bar menu symbol, there was a followable path to reach the place where Thunderbird stored the passwords needed to get access to one's ISP accounts. If that still exists, I can't now find it.

I have a new Dell laptop that I am trying to activate. Comcast does not accept the PWs (that I have written down), so I want to find them on this older machine where they still work. Following TB's instructions, the expected "Saved Passwords" box does not appear; instead we get "Saved Logins". "Logins" is apparently a synonym for what I might call "retail" passwords, used to access bank, vendor, &c accounts, but these are distinct from network-access accounts. (In general, I think TB fails to distinguish adequately between the two password categories, but that's another question.)

So the question is: how do I get access to the ISP passwords stored on this old, working, machine, so that I can transfer them to the new one?

I am starting to plan my upgrade from Thunderbird 52.9.1 to 115. 115 seems a little immature at present, so I'll be waiting until the new year before I do the upgrade but there are a lot of issues so I'll need the time to deal with those anyway.

I have 11 email accounts. Half of those have S/MIME certificates which I get from actalis.it. They are free and have to be renewed each year. Each year a new certificate is created and imported in to Thunderbird.

I use an add on called "security settings from address book" which allows me to automatically encrypt emails to recipients who have a flag set in the custom fields. This addon is not supported in Thunderbird 115, but I'm hoping the new certificate functions in 115 will work. I will not be using OpenPGP, Enigmail or GNUPG.

As each email address gets a new certificate each year I have to import each certificate to be able to access these older emails. So my question is this;

I assume if I don't import the certificates for each account for every year I will be unable to access the emails that were sent/received during the valid period of the related certificates - is that correct?

How will this affect people with whom I sent/received encrypted emails? Are they going to have to upgrade to 115 at the same time? I would have thought that as long as they have their certificates already installed in the same manner in which I had in my old Thunderbird they would not have to do anything?

Unrelated to encryption/digital signatures, I've just had a thought... Am I going to come across any issues pointing Thunderbird 115 to my existing mail folders?

I believe there is no "upgrade path". I have to do all of this from scratch?

I have about a 1,000 filters. Everything gets moved out of the inbox for the account into one or more folders on the Local Folders, where all of my mail folders reside. Can I copy the msgfilters.dat file for each account to the new installation and it will work? Or am I going to have to create all of the filters from scratch too?

thanks.

I'm having issues with my server connection for Thunderbird. I have several email accounts tied to it but only 1 email account is not working properly. I'm able to log in but then shortly I get an error message that it can't connect to the server. The stored password is correct although at one point when I checked there were random letters/numbers in the password field and I changed it back to the former password.

Hello!

I'm attempting to help a family member who uses software that a recent update decided it wanted to end-to-end encrypt the messages it sends to the workfloor. This isn't itself a problem. Everything there works fine.

HOWEVER. The workers are accustomed to printing the emails to use as physical checklists and while printing an individual message works fine, if they select a batch of them to print, they aren't decrypted before being printed ( IE, they get a nice --- BEGIN PGP.... block on the paper ) and that's... suboptimal.

I rather imagine this isn't configurable anywhere I'm asking in case it somehow is.

Thanks!

Hello and great work so far Firefox team!

Currently, Firefox can be used in Windows from the command line to open any URL (start firefox www.google.com). Since any browser is expected to have Internet access to any website or IP address, this is a real security concern in case of default deny security for firewall outbound traffic.

Here is a hacker scenario: The PC has a list of whitelist applications allowed to connect to the Internet. This prevents lots of malware from connecting to their remote servers. However, malware can bypass that by listening on localhost and requesting Firefox to open the remote server. This way the malware sends and receives data with the server using Firefox after requesting an URL with the malware local port specified as query parameter.

This can be avoided with a special about:config option that completely disables command line processing. I don't know if that's entirely possible, but preventing Firefox to start URLs from command line or explicitly requesting Internet access for static HTML files should be enough.

Note: I use NoScript and that helps in this case, but it is not a bullet proof solution. It may be possible that one of the CDN I have allowed gets hacked with malicious JavaScript. If the malware is already on the PC, it can connect to the remote server using the hacked CDN that is allowed in NoScript. This is a two piece attack, but I still think that using Firefox to access to random URL from command line is dangerous and should have an option to be turned off.

I continue to receive these notices from Bitdefender, what is this about? "firefox.exe attempted to establish a connection relying on an expired certificate to pocklington.mitremedia.com. We blocked the connection to keep your data safe since websites must renew their certificates with a certification authority to stay current, and outdated security certificates represent a risk."

I'm seeing a problem when Thunderbird starts up, Windows Security prompts me to select a certificate for authentication. The server is mine, but the certificate is issued by Apple iPhone Device CA (see image). Authentication in Thunderbird is set to "Normal password" over SSL/TLS to my IMAP server.

Any thoughts?

OS: Windows 11 Thunderbird: 102.15.0

Kaspersky Standard AV was also installed recently, but I don't know why it would have an Apple certificate.

The account is also configured on an iPad, but the pop-up is happening on the Windows system.

Thanks!
