When I got rid of OpenOffice and installed LibreOffice, I ran into a problem. Attachments in the MSWord or MSExcel formats (.doc and .xls files) would not open when clicked on. Thunderbird would properly open attachments in the Open Office/LibreOffice file formats, but not the Microsoft format files.

In checking the file associations, I found they were all correct. MS Word files were set to open with LibreOffice Writer, and the MS Excel files were set to open with LibreOffice Calc, but they did not work.

HERE IS THE SOLUTION...

1) Reset the file associations for the Microsoft format files to "Always Ask." 2) Open an email with an MS Word attachment. (a doc file) 3) Click to open the attachment. 4) Thunderbird will ask you "What should Thunderbird do with this file?" 5) Tell it to use LibreOffice Writer 6) Check the box to "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." 7) Do the same with an Excel spreadsheet file. DONE.

Microsoft format files will now open properly from Thunderbird in LibreOffice.

I use Thunderbird as my email client for three different Gmail accounts. One of my contacts in one of these accounts regularly sends me Word documents as attachments from an icloud address. The email comes through on Thunderbird but there is no attachment. When I go straight to Gmail via my browser (Firefox) the attachment is there. None of my other contacts has this issue. The only one affected is the one person using an icloud address.

I am very excited about the new PDF signature feature in Thunderbird, awesome to not have to do this externally.

However, I am still trying to find a way to streamline a common workflow for me: I get a an email with pdfs attached where I need to insert signatures in a few places and send this back. My current workflow is the following: i open each pdf attachment, add the signature, save it to a file, and then open the email reply and reattach the correct files and all of them. It is this indirection via files that actually created the biggest headache for me, as it's a bit too easy to mess up here.

I also tried going via the "reply with attachments" extension, to have the reply email with all attachments already, but there seems to be no way to then edit them in thunderbird.

Am I missing something obvious for how to do this? Given that I am surely not the only one doing this, I am hoping someone has already figured this one out?

Attached coloured PDFs are displayed and sent as black and white, both normal and troubleshooting mode.

JPEGs and DOCXs keep their colour.

Thunderbird Android Version 13.0 Android Version 15 Fairphone 4, also Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5. I get an email with a PDF-attachment. I click on "open with Acrobat". Acrobat reports "document cannot be opened, is damaged". I open the same email with GMail. I click on "open with Acrobat". Acrobat opens the PDF without problems. So the PDF is not damaged in the mail, only in Thunderbird-Android.

Since installing Windows 11, the right click "send to/mail recipient" hasn't worked with Thunderbird. I located the "send to folder", selected and opened "mail recipient", and selected Thunderbird. Now the "mail recipient" option has completely disappeared from the send to drop down menu. Can anyone help please?

When I try to embed an image in an email as soon as I click on "insert" and "image" the message freezes. All I can do is to access the task manager to close Thunderbird altogether and then start again - but the same problem occurs when I try again.

I had to fall back on sending the image as an attachment. Now that I come to think of it this has been a problem for some considerable time.

NB as you can see from the sequence this crash occurs before I have been able to select the image - so it has nothing to do with the size or format of the image.

The attachement of the mail for thunderbird android should be displayed on top of the mail, not on the bottom. This is to avoid scrolling down all the way on a longer thread just to see the attachement. Please consider this modification urgently.

I have tried on several occasion to send an email with xlsx attachment and you tell me 'This message does not meet our delivery requirements.' I have sent emails previously successfully to the address without the attachment.? What is the problem?

I need to attach files of total size 54mb. I open the folder where the files are stored in File Explorer and select all of them. I press ENTER and it says “These are large files. It might be better to use Filelink instead.” I click Link, and it displays the uploaded image.

I had this working then it magically stopped about a year ago and I can't get it back. When I try to open a pdf I get "...could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to disk first and then opening the file."

I have gone into settings and re-selected adobe acrobat and restarted but still can't open.

I am on a mac.
