I exported my details then used the thunderbird uninstall program. then reinstalled it. but problem persists. What password is it asking for and how can I get a reminder of it or a chance to change it?

I need to backup Tbird so that I can reset my PC, then reinstall Windows 11 and all applications. (There is malware that I and Tech Support have been unable to find.) I am familiar with the procedure for moving my profile to a new PC and have successfully executed it before. However, my installation is a little different. In addition to saving / restoring my profile, I also have to set the Local Folders parameter from the Account Settings menu, pointing the Local Directory to files on my HDD. I also seem to remember that the order that this is done relative to copying the profile matters, but I can't remember the details. Can someone help me out?

Thunderbird is not download mail to the client inbox. I created the mailsadress today, freshly installed TB too. I set up the outlook.com account in TB and TB is establishing a connection with the mailserver, but not loading the mails. every time it tries to connect I can see TBgoing through the motions in status in the bottom left. There are mails in the accounts inbox,TB is just not downloading them. I also tried sending mails a mail to myself, from within TB, works fine. The mail sent via TB arrived in the acount inbox, visible in the webapp.

Please help, THX

already double checked Server Settings:

   IMAP:
       Incoming Server: outlook.office365.com
       Port: 993
       Security: SSL/TLS
       Authentication: OAuth2
   SMTP:
       Outgoing Server: smtp.office365.com
       Port: 587
       Security: STARTTLS

I wanted to repair it via Windows, but only the “Uninstall” tab appears in the Control Panel, not “Repair”... It doesn't matter whether I start Thunderbird in safe mode or normal mode. Starting yesterday 4-3-2025 my Thunderbird email keeps locking up and saying it is not responding. I can close it and open it and then work with it for 2 or 3 minutes and it will start not responding again. This is a consistent problem the last few days. I did check and it said there was an automatic update on 4-2-25. I am not sure if this had anything to do with it but i did go in and request an update about 2 hours ago today. This has not helped as I still consistentaly get the not responding problem. Please advise what I can do to fix this.]

I can't send any emails with my personal outlook account. It always says "Login to server smtp.office365.com with username xxx@outlook.com failed." Receiving mails works… (funda kabanzi)

I can't send any emails with my personal outlook account. It always says "Login to server smtp.office365.com with username xxx@outlook.com failed." Receiving mails works fine. Both my IMAP and SMTP authentication are set to OAuth2.

Here's my account info found in troubleshooting information.

   account14:
     INCOMING: account14, , (imap) outlook.office365.com:993, 3, 10
     OUTGOING: , SMTP.office365.com:587, 2, 10, true


I've tried:

  • Removing and re-adding the account
  • Deleting oauth2.issuer and oauth2.scope in config editor and re-login
  • Adding the account in a new profile
  • Switching to basic authentication for SMTP

They don't solve the issue.

When I click on a folder with multiple messages, each of which has a thread with multiple messages, all of the threads are automatically expanded. If I collapse each message thread, leave that folder, then return to that folder, all of the message threads are again fully expanded.

Is there a way to stop this automatic thread expansion each time a folder is opened?

The problem is that this prevents all access Thunderbird. Nothing is selectable so I have no access to my emails or to any of the Thunderbird settings.

I tried reinstalling Thunderbird (without deleting my profile) and the Google Calendar reminder pops up again.

So I am really stuck!

Hi I have a company email account with a large amount of emails accessible from several computers. I created a local folder in Thunderbird on my NAS drive and directed the locations to it on my computers. I have emails sorted by year, as well as received and sent. When I open the program, I can see the email subject, recipient, and date. However, I can't open any of the messages; both the quick preview and the separate window show a white background. What's the problem?
