I have the DuckDuckGo search engine as the only search engine in my list of search engines. There is a very annoying issue with the way Firefox handles searches.

When I enter text into the DuckDuckGo search box two things can happen after hitting Enter to perform the search. If the cursor was positioned just below the search box where Change Search Settings button is located, after hitting Enter the the search defaults to the Options/Search page. This requires reloading my home page retyping my search query and ensure that the cursor isn't located over the Change Search Settings. Since the search engine textbox is located high up on the page instead of in the middle my cursor frequently ends up positioned over the Change Search Settings button. Since I am only using one search engine, it would be great if the Change Search Settings button could be disabled. Can This be done? I haven't been able to disable it with Firefox version 83.0 (64 bit).

1: Sometimes when middle-clicking a link to open it in another tab, it will open the new tab with the address of the link I clicked, in the background, but not load it at all.

2: Sometimes when clicking a link (to open in the current tab), it does nothing at all, or selecting an option in a dropdown box won't refresh the page with the new information (for example, zandesk dropdown menus for bug reporting for a developer's game will select the item, but not reload the page with the now relevant boxes to fill out- happens everywhere, noticed it there).

3: Pages will stop loading before they've actually finished loading, like Firefox is cancelling the load because "it's taking too long". I have 400kbps, Firefox, I'm in no rush to STOP loading a page that I'm trying to load...

Firefox is my default browser on my desktop Windows 10. Until a few days ago all was great. But now when I turn my computer on and Firefox opens, things go very slowly. Opening a new window (tab) can take up to a minute. If I get 3/4 windows open, moving from one to another can take ages. Eventually, after about five minutes, everything is as it should be, and I can do everything at the usual great speed. But if I am away from the computer for an hour or so and then return to it, everything is ridiculously slow again. After about five minutes, it's flying again! Once it gets going again, things are so good and fast I can't believe there is a major problem. I have done a Refresh of Firefox, but no joy. I have turned the computer on/off/on at the mains, but no joy. I don't want to do an Uninstall/Install unless really necessary. I have 8GB of Ram, and loads of space on the C drive. But I am NOT tech savvy at all. When I go to Task Manager, it can show up to a dozen processes for Firefox. Is that normal? If I have only Firefox open, Memory shows at 50%. Is that normal? I would be grateful for any ideas. But I repeat, I am tech useless, so I need everything spelled out in the most basic English. I look forward to hearing from somebody! Thanks.

So like my title says, I recently started noticed my computer is very slow, making very loud fan noises every 5 - 15 seconds and freezing when the fan becomes loud. I notice in task manager I am running 9-10 firefox processes which take up close to 100% memory, even though I am running 1 tab. I don't know if this a virus, or bug, but it is screwing my computer over. I have 8 GB Ram, and it shows 100% in memory sometimes from firefox, I think this is some virus, but I don't know how to get rid of it.

Running Firefox 83 (claims it's up to date) on Windows 10 Pro N.

Recently Firefox has decided to play the audio from the likes of Facebook videos and YouTube through the speakers, despite:

  1. the headphones being the default device
  2. restarting the computer
  3. Chrome and VLC media player both sending audio to the USB headphones.

I disabled the speakers, which did result in FF sending the audio through the USB headphones. But . . . when I re-enabled the speakers Firefox reverted to them. Mid-play of a video! This even though the default audio device was still the USB headphones.

I searched for guidance, but the mentions I have found related to posts going back several years (FF 36 anyone).

That other applications correctly recognise the appropriate audio device suggests strongly that it's a Firefox issue, rather than an OS issue.

I really would prefer to not have to manually disable the speakers. Previously everything would simply switch from headphones to speakers when I unplugged the headphones, and back again when I plugged the headphones back in. This is how it should be.

At first, I am sorry for English, but I use a google translator. Maybe someone will write in Polish. I installed thunderbird 78.5.0 (64 bits) nowhere I can find information on how to set this program to download emails from the server and not to stay on this server. My point is that they should be downloaded to the computer and the server will then be clean without a message. That's what I had on my previous computer and it suits me very well. There is only information about leaving messages on the server everywhere, and I don't want to leave them. Please, ask for help screens where and what to set or where to enter what.

Currently on Firefox 83.0 Windows. This specific problem started about 2 versions ago. I thought for certain it would be fixed in a release but has not. It is serious enough that after decades of Firefox I am considering moving on. Situation: When scanning a long site like Feedly, I use the middle button to set auto scroll and start scrolling down, speeding up / slowing down as needed. Previous behavior: When an article appears interesting, I would Left Click the mouse to cancel auto scroll, move the cursor to the article link, click on the article to read. Simple. Problem: When Left Clicking to stop the scroll, Firefox positions the web page much further down the page requiring manual scrolling back to find the article. A SERIOUS usability killer! Testing: Testing in IE 11 and the new Chromium Edge shows correct behavior. Solution: Please restore Previous behavior as described. Priority: Very important
