I transferred Win 7 Thunderbird Profile (TB)to a Windows machine. It left behind all the other settings, such as when picking up/sending email, passwords are required at the IP to login, get email/send email.

QUESTION: Is there another TB area where the passwords are stored so I can copy those over to the new computer.

I posted this about a week ago, and when I come back, it's gone. That's why I am repeating myself.

A long timer ago, I was told by a user that Thunderbird does not need passwords. It does if you what to get your email. They are setting for each email user. There are 34 under the one TB.

I hope there is a transferable file because changing all the passwords and preference for each account would be the hard way.

I appreciate your taking the time to read this,

I have multiple gmail accounts set up on Thunderbird. They were all working fine until I traveled overseas and came back. Then, all of a sudden, 1 gmail account stopped working. The rest kept working fine. I checked the settings and they were correct. I removed the account and tried to set it up again (about 10 times), but kept getting the same error message: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." The automatic configuration passed and I even tried manually configuring to the recommended settings to no avail.

The only thing I can think of is that when traveling overseas and trying to get online, Thunderbird and/or Gmail asks for further security verification, and I just avoided using Thunderbird altogether while abroad. Upon my return, I started getting this error message. It is extremely inconvenient to have to use the Gmail interface for only 1 email (my main email!). Does anybody know anything I can do to repair this? I'm almost tempted to use another email client altogether to make my life more efficient as the new setup is not sustainable.

I've followed Thunderbird setup according to "Automatic Conversion of Google mail accounts to OAuth 2.0 Authentication" (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20) The failure is described in my initial post below:

Mozilla Support - Signin, and use of Thunderbird https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1484529#answer-1729438

LarryGad post (Reply to Ashley LambertonQuestion owner): I get the same screenshot Ashley posted above. But...clicking Allow doesn't download my Gmail messages. And clicking the link, Account Permissions, just produces a blank window. An idiosyncrasy is I'm the domain administrator for a "Free Legacy Edition of G Suite for personal use".

This paragraph may not be relevant to the above issue. I did stumble across the Account settings link (https://myaccount.google.com/general-light?pli=1) which contains the line: 'Connected accounts View and manage your accounts from other services' Clicking the 'View ...' link goes to https://profiles.google.com/connectedaccounts and displays the message: "404. That’s an error. The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know." Highlighting the 'View ...' link shows https://profiles.google.com/connectedaccounts?authuser=0

Thanks in advance.

I DON'T want my email account password to be saved anywhere in Thunderbird and I DO want to have to enter the password each time I start up Thunderbird anew. However, my password is being retained. I've deleted the password entry from Settings & Saved Passwords but seem to have to do that every time before I close down. Where/how can I ensure I have to enter my hotmail password each time I start up Thunderbird please?

I have downloaded the latest Thunderbird (for Windows). I have tried setting up my Gmail account in it but just get a failure. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

I start the account setup, set my email address and password and click continue. It shows an automatic IMAP configuration, I click Done. A window pops up from Google for me to allow Thunderbird to access my Google Account. I click Allow. The window goes away and It goes back to the account setup screen with a yellow error box saying "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

I know my username and password are correct. Any suggestions?

Something changed a few weeks ago (about November 30) and since then Thunderbird will not allow me access to any new emails, nor to be able to send new emails.

Instead, I get a large pop-up window which basically says "Enter credentials: Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account <my email typed here> This will allow Mozilla Thunderbird Email to: Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail".

I don't want anyone to permamently delete any of my emails, nor do I want anyone sending emails from my email account (etc, etc).

SO I click deny, and the pop-up goes away - that is until I try to use Thunderbird and it pops up again.

I've been using Thunderbird for many years and never had this problem before. Do the Thunderbird or Mozilla techs know anything about this and how do I fix it, or is it a new policy (which means I will no longer be using Thunderbird)?

I have searched here some time in December but nothing suggested by other users worked for me.

I've read everything apropos here, tried everything, and I'm lost--and totally screwed--if I can't get into my old Thunderbird. Spectrum, computer died, nobody competent here to get past "Registry Error," I guess, but I need all the data, contacts, calendar, etc., in the T'bird I've relied on for MANY years. PLEASE help. I tried to get a screen grab: It didn't work.

This is the second time I've appealed for help.

I read that I now need a secure mail key so I can access my emails with third party app Thunderbird. I have created a secure mail key at att.com which is part of Yahoo. My email app is att.yahoo.com. I was told the passwords for Thunderbird would be within the profile under the Profile Folder but I cannot find them there. All I want to do is update my password within the Profile Folder and it seems like it would easier to break into Fort Knox.

Hi there Thunderbird Community,

I am first time user of Thunderbird, and I am using version 140.2.0esr (64-bit).

I have been trying to connect my Gmail account, and it keeps on giving me this error that I have seen on other threads: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

From the other threads, I tried to do the troubleshooting suggested:

 - cleared the cookies associated with Google
 - added https://account.google.com as an Exception for Cookies and to always allow
 - disabled Account Hub since it seems to have issues from what I read on another thread
 - changed my Google account password
 - tried another Gmail account with no success
 - tried various Thunderbird versions, uninstalling the old one before reinstalling the new one: Thunderbird Release (Recommended), Thunderbird Extended Support Release (current version being used), and Thunderbird Beta. I have not tried Thunderbird Daily.

I have added Google OAuth screen-by-screen images of what I saw before getting the Thunderbird client error message.

Any ideas?

Thanks! James

While trying to retrieve new messages for one of my email accounts, I keep getting the message "Login to server xxx.xxx.xxx with username xxx@xxx.xxx failed."

I click the "Enter New Password" button and enter the same password that I use to successfully login to the account on a browser, and it STILL fails and keeps showing the same message box.

This started happening this morning. Have others reported this problem? What do I need to check to see if there is a problem in either Thunderbird or in my email account settings?

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I had the idea to try Opera browser as I saw various videos about it. Firefox does slow me down at times even though it's what I have used for years.

Soon after, I defaulted back to using Firefox but the settings must have gotten changed. Everytime I wish to log in to any site, I have to type in my email again. The passwords usually are the old ones that show up.

With Amazon for instance. I must sign in and verify with codes sent to my mobile few times a day. I have searched for help online and gone through the cookies and history and privacy settings, turn this on or that off, don't do this and don't do that. Despite all that, the sites don't remember my email logins. If I go from voucher code to another site, it doesn't remember my credentials, so I don't get the deal or voucher. Amazon on my mobile works perfect but on my laptop, it's just a nightmare to have to sign in and verify each time. Outlook refuses to recognize my password most times and so it goes on.

If I cannot fix this asap, I will then have to remove Firefox as a browser altogether and find anything else that works! Please advise. Last time I reached out to Firefox, I never heard back! Fingers Crossed x

Recently many sites have (for reasons I cannot fathom) introduced a pre-login form: ie a form that requires a username to be entered before an password text box is provided. This seems to be a trend and it is incredibly annoying.

The issue I have is that FF does not recognise the page/form as a login page and therefore does not provide a list of usernames for the domain in question.

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated.
