I am operating OSX 10.8.5 and Firefox 26

Recently (without having installed new software or extensions) my homepage setting in firefox default to yahoo. Yahoo also showed up as one of my search engines w/o me having installed it. I deleted it and everything was fine for a while. But now instead of showing my windows and tabs from last time, it just shows yahoo instead.

This is very annoying, because I keep loosing all my pinned tabs. None of the solution discussed above are helpful and the problem persists even in the safe mode.

Below is the troubleshooting info from "Firefox about:support"

After upgrading to FF26 I get sites like Yahoo and Facebook that won't open properly. Passwords for yahoo mail won't initially take. I have to recycle the pages 2 and three times before they will operate correctly. I occasionally get the "An error occurred during a connection to www.facebook.com. SSL peer rejected a handshake message for unacceptable content. (Error code: ssl_error_illegal_parameter_alert)".

I have tried doing the recommended fixes posted on the site by deleting the cache and history however, the problem still exists. Additionally, I have completely wiped FF off the computer and reinstalled and nothing has changed. I have Kaspersky Pure 2.0 as my antivirus, but this issue is only occurring on one of my three computers.

I shut down FF via the Windows Task Manager. When I tried to restart FF, FBI was back. I shut FF down. Then, using the Open New Window option, I was able to get FF up. Here is the web address. I think it is important to block unsecure addons. But if you do so there should be an open bug assigened. The referenced bug for this add-on is allready resolved so I do not know why this plugin is disabled. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636633

I have the problem that I want to use Secure_Auth that is using the Java Deployment Kit in such a nasty way (via javascript) that firefox doesn't see that the deployment kit should be started. Therefore I will not be asked to allow this plugin always for this web site. Since there is no documentation available how to do this configuration in a config file I am stuck at the moment.

I'm a liitle bit suprised that blocking all versions (even secure versions) is a way to get a good user experience.

Do you want more information about this issue?" Yet I was able to copy and paste the prompt I keep getting. I don't want to copy/paste so I can cheat from the interenet, I'm trying to copy my own words and put them in a new document and can't.

It takes me to this site when I click yes https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Midas/Security_preferences

I am so fed up with the error message that adobe flash plugin has crashed. You have had two years to fix this problem and all your suggested solutions do not work. I cannot see any alternative but to go back to Internet Explorer. It is so frustrating when I am checking my emails and click on a link to get the same message over and over again. Why is it that this problem only happens with Firefox? It does not happen with Internet Explorer and it does not happen with Google Chrome. Otherwise Mozilla Firefox is great.

I'm running Win8.1, and have been using Firefox for many years - partially, because unnecessary features don't take over the screen - as they sometimes do with Microsoft products. I seem to have stumbled into what may be an exception to that, though. [1] My Firefox title bar, tabs, and the bookmarks toolbar have hidden themselves - unless I mouse over the top of the screen. I didn't ask for this, and would like these features to be in view all the time (as they've been for the last 10 or so years). Any advice? [2] Secondarily, Firefox appears to have updated itself, perhaps, without my consent. I'd like to turn that off, and stay in control of my PC. Any advice for that would be helpful too. Thanks in advance.

A search of Mozilla Help only throws up mentions in passing of Mozbackup by people who have used it. So what is it? And why doesn't it appear as part of installing Firefox, instead of me having to hunt for it  ?

I gather it may be be needed for Firefox and Thunderbird backups since proprietary backup programs somehow fail to deal with them successfully. Is this really the case ? And how would it work combining two different back-ups ? (scratches tiny head)

Thanks for your help

P.S. running W7 ultimate but OS and indeed system not really an issue.

Prior to the past couple of days (perhaps before the recent update to FF26), upon close, Firefox would delete all stored cookies except the ones related to tabs I had open at the time. When reopening Firefox, my session would be restored, and my logins to various sites would remain active.

Recently this behavior seems to have changed. Despite browser.sessionstore.privacy_level being set to 0 and browser.startup.page being set to 3, Firefox keeps deleting the cookies for my session. My history settings remain unchanged from what they were before I had the issue. I have Firefox set to accept cookies from sites, always accept third-party cookies, and keep them until I close Firefox. Under 'Clear history when Firefox closes', I have everything checked except for 'Browing & Download History'. If I change 'Keep until' to 'they expire' and uncheck cookies in the clear history settings, it will retain my session cookies, but it will also retain the cookies for websites not in my session. I have not installed any add-ons recently, and I have unsuccessfully tried every combination of history settings in an attempt to reach the previous behavior before this issue arose.

Curiously, Firefox only seems to delete some cookies. For instance, it remembers my Google username, but not the password or the fact that I was logged in. It also remembers the login for this forum and keeps me logged in completely. On Twitch, it seems to delete all cookies, completely logging me out.

I'm using Firefox 26 on Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks for any help.

The new version of Adobe Flash 11 is atrocious... I want to use version 10.3, but when it's installed it always asks me if I want to activate this plugin on every video... That's really annoying. :( I've tried to set the plugin to 'Always Activate', but the option is unavailable in the addon options. Is there another way to fix this so it's always active, or do I need to find another browser in the meantime until Firefox gets their stuffs together?

Solution: Saving All The Tabs And Reloading Them Anywhere (From Archived Thread)

Hi, My problem "was" that I was working on Firefox at my home and at my office. As computers are fast these days, I am in habit of opening large number of tabs in firefox… (funda kabanzi)

Hi,

My problem "was" that I was working on Firefox at my home and at my office. As computers are fast these days, I am in habit of opening large number of tabs in firefox. And I always wanted to open the same tabs at my office which I was opening at my home and vice versa. I further wanted to clean the browsing history after leaving the computer at my work as well as home.

While searching through the forums, I reached to this thread:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/960096

And to my satisfaction, the exact answer was not there.

Anyways, doing a little more search, I found why I will never stop loving Firefox and its because of its wonderful "addons".

So here I re-write the problem,

I want to save the addresses of different tabs opened in my Firefox and save them to a file that can be re-opened by Firefox on the same computer or on a different computer with the option to clean the browser history after leaving the computer.

Solution: "Session Manager Addon" of firefox.

Steps to the solution:

1. Download and install a firefox addon called "session manager".

URL: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/

2. After installing this addon, go to Firefox -> Sesion Manager -> Session Manager -> Session Manager Options. (or to Tools -> Session Manager -> Session Manager -> Session Manager Options)

Go to "Advanced" tab.

Now change the default location for saving the session. Say you name it to your desktop.

Now, you have "Session Manager" addon installed, the default location of saving the session file is known to you (say your desktop).

3. Now go to, "Firefox -> Session Manager -> Session Manager -> Save Session" and give your session a name under the option "Save the current session as". (or to "Tools -> Session Manager -> Session Manager -> Save Session")

4. Suppose you give your session a name called "New Session". In your default location of saving the session (say your desktop), you will get a file named "New Session.session"

5. Now this file is the key. It's a small file and you can simply email it to yourself or carry it to your work with you.

6. Just place this file at same location on the different computer and repeat Steps 1 and 2.

7. Now Session Manager is installed and configured on the other computer and the file has been copied to the desktop of this other computer.

8. Go to Firefox -> Session Manager -> Session Manager -> Load Session (or to Tools -> Session Manager -> Session Manager -> Load Session) and the saved session will be loaded to the different computer by Firefox.

Now, how this addon can help someone?

1. It is extremely useful for people like me who are addicted to opening many many tabs at once and want to resume working from the same set of tabs whether they are at home, office or some other place.

2. Suppose, you are surfing some personal sites that you do not want other people to know and you can't bookmark those sites. You are on a different computer, say at your office and want to clean the browsing history too.

The best option in such cases is to save the session completely and re-load it on a different computer.

I personally found "Session Manager" addon better than "copy urls expert".

The only improvement I would like to see is that Firefox itself should allow multiple tabs to saved to a file that can be opened by Firefox just like we open a saved HTML page.

And thanks to Michael Kraft for creating this wonderful addon... Really liked and I hope my post help others.

thanks

Since a while back, the four choices in the restore section (Tabs from Other Devices, Restore Previous Session, Recently Closed Tabs and Recently Closed Windows) have been greyed out. The keyboard shortcuts don't work, and nor does Undo Closed Tab in the tab context menu.

I have found and tried various fixes for this, including:

  • Starting Firefox in Safe Mode without addons.
  • Resetting Firefox.
  • Changing the values of browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo and browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo in about:config.
  • Checking to see if I have a user.js in the Firefox profile. (I don't.)
  • Checking that Private Browsing isn't the default mode. (It isn't.)
  • Creating a new profile to see if it had the same issue. (It did.)
  • Running anti-malware scans. (BitDefender and SpyBot.)
  • Disabling my anti-virus and anti-malware temporarily.

None of these solve my problems.

Tabs from Other Devices is greyed out, but I have never used it, and it might have been greyed out previously.

History works in general. Sites I visit are added to the log.

Preferences are properly saved when I change them.

Any advice on how to fix the problem would be much appreciated, as I am very fond of these features and used them often until they stopped working.

ADDENDUM

After looking through the Modified Preferences list created by the Troubleshooter, I have now also tried resetting the following:

  • browser.places.smartBookmarksVersion
  • browser.newtabpage.storageVersion
  • browser.cache.disk.capacity
  • browser.cache.disk.smart_size.first_run
  • browser.cache.disk.smart_size.use_old_max
  • browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value

The problem persists.

I have had 1-click Youtube video downloader addon installed for a little while now and it has always worked well. However, recently I tried to change to a different addon (in fact several different ones) but the Download button then disappeared. I have since re-installed Firefox and returned to 1-click Youtube Video downloader, but still when in a YouTube video page the Download button is missing, no matter which videos I select.

I would much appreciate some assistance as I use the YouTube Video download option a lot!
