after installing latest upgrade all of my bookmarks have gone. When going to restore bookmarks error message unable to process backup appears. why give an update that deletes all bookmarks without informing the user, if I had have known this i would not have upgraded. How do I get years of saved bookmarks back?

It appears that Mozilla did an update to my browser this morning -- to Version 55.0 (32-bit) -- and now my bookmarks are gone. There seems to be some bookmark backups, but the normal restore process is not working. Please advise.

A folder in Bookmarks disappeared AGAIN! This is ridiculous. Every now and then Firefox loses a Bookmark folder. To make matters worse, I can waste a lot of time trying to find it and get no where. I have better things to do than trying to find lost Bookmark folders! How can I easily find the very important Bookmark folder quickly? Undo does not help.

My bookmarks have vanished. This problem began when I had iTunes and Firefox open. My iTunes songs were "skipping," which had never happened before. I closed Firefox and iTunes, and I ran my Piriform CCleaner program to clear out temporary files, which I do regularly.

I ended up updating iTunes to make it work, but not before my bookmarks disappeared with the message on my browser: "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem."

Worse, Firefox won't allow me to add new bookmarks.

I followed all topics in support and nothing has changed this problem. I've restarted and shut down the computer. I ran a full-system security scan. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox.

Firefox 59.02 is not exporting my bookmarks to html even after a clean install removing everything via uninstalling and then removing any leftover Mozilla folders, etc)

.json is working fine in both exporting and restoring.

Other people I have read are having this issue.

I want to place the Bookmarks toolbar above the tabs as I have had for many years. It is more logical/intuitive for me to select the bookmark and have the tab open below the Bookmarks toolbar as my eyes are moving down the page.

I have different bookmarks sets on my two PCs, one correct (A), the other full of holes and missing files (B). In addition despite being told in the user interface that the PCs synced an hour ago, they haven't.

I try to follow https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sync-your-firefox-bookmarks-history-passwords-and-#w_step-1-unlink-all-of-your-devices-from-the-old-sync but fall down at the first hurdle:

"Click the menu button Fx57Menu and choose Options. Select the Sync panel. "

But I don't see a Sync panel.

Similarly there are frequent instructions such as:

"On a computer:

   Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Sign in to Sync and follow the instructions to create your account. "

There is no Sign in to Sync on my computer, despite my having logged in to Firefox Sync and being told that my PCs are syncing.

Odd.

Anyway, assuming that someone can point me in the right direction on this puzzling connundrum, I still have the problem of two very different bookmarks sets, A and B. I don't want B to pollute A, in fact I would like A to overwrite B. How to ensure that happens?

Hey, like i said: some of the bookmarks in my toolbar go missing every day. I can set them back via the bookmark backup option, but a day later they will be gone again and i have to reset them again. Any idea why this is happening? I use firefox on my PC and Laptop... is this a synchronisation issue?

I have a clickfree backup drive and my computer crashed. I restored it to factory settings and reinstalled Firefox but cannot figure out how to get my old bookmarks back. I tried to replace the new places.sqlite file with the one I had on my backup drive but still got nothing? I tried to use the restore option but it won't take the old places.sqlite file. Is there anyway to get my old bookmarks? I'm really not a techy person..... Thanks

My bookmarks disappear every time I reboot FireFox. In order to get them back I have to go to "view" & uncheck Bookmark Toolbars (which is checked) & then "view" & re-check Bookmark Toolbars & they come back. But I have to repeat this sequence every time I open FireFox which annoying & the main reason I don't use FireFox as default (Ionly use it when I need a 64bit program with Java in other words @ work!

The server my FireFox beta 32 uses is: sync-44-us-west-2.sync.services.mozilla.com:443 and for about 5 days now, it is really slow (like 5 minutes) sync'ing my Bookmarks, etc.

Previously, sync would take a maximum of about 5 seconds.... This is by pressing the Sync NOW button.

FFox has big issues to Import Bookmarks from Html file. How to fix it? There're many users complaining online. Likewise, cannot Import Chrome Bookmarks into FFox, the same problems.

I wonder why this very important field is removed. I have over 10 years of information recorded in this field for reference. This seems completely unneccessary to remove it. At least, could you provide an import tools so that user can move those description into some other field in the bookmark?

I saw many people asked this question, and no solution works for me. By exporting the information to a html is not enough, because I need to manually handle over 10 years of description information, which is foolish.

I just got a new SSD and did a clean Ubuntu 19.10 install. Before deleting the old system I did a backup of my Firefox (71) bookmarks to a JSON file. That JSON file has a size of 6.4 MB.

Now on the new install (FF 72.0.1) I restored my bookmarks from that JSON file. But when I did my daily bookmark backup shortly after, the new JSON file only has 5.5 MB.

How come the 0.9 MB difference? How can I tell what data was lost in the process?

I have installed firefox on 2 XP32 Pro SP3 computers. On the first one, I was able to read in my Opera bookmarks once they were saved as an html file. On the second computer, when I select the Import and Backup menu followed by Import Bookmarks from HTML…, I do not get a dialog box to select the file to import. Nothing happens. Furthermore, I have discovered that no file-related operations work with this installation - such as Open File… or Save Page As…

The only difference between the two installations that I can think of that might be relevant is that on the first computer, I installed into the default directory; on the second, I changed the name of the directory into which I installed.

So the relevant developer might want to check the effects of installation into a non-standard directory, and if this is the cause, fix how it works (or remove that option).

I am using the latest version of Firefox Developer Edition (62.0b2). Up until recently operation of the bookmark properties (right-click on a bookmark) remained identical to the old standard Firefox. I used the properties to store various information about a link (typically user name and hint of password). But some time within the past few weeks an update to Developer Edition included a complete overhaul of bookmark properties and all of mine were deleted. Can anyone explain what is happening and I can restore my bookmark properties?
