Can current Thunderbird (52.5.2) still import old mail from Outlook Express (on Windows XP SP3)?

Or should I try to install an older version like v38.5.0?

I also have my mail in Outlook 2003 & 2007, but I read Thunderbird hasn't been able to import from a .PST for a long time (since v.17 or so). Let me know if I'm on the right track (and which track is best). I stuck with Outlook far too long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). I have two different versions of Thunderbird installed on my system; one is installed in Program Files (64-bit version 125.0.0.0 dated 04/23/2024—old version) and the other is installed in Program Files (x86) (64-bit version 115.12.2.0 dated 06/25/2024—the current version). The shortcut icon on my desktop (which I never use) runs the older version located in the Program Files folder while the shortcut icon on my taskbar (and also the one in my Start menu) runs the updated version located in the Program Files (x86) folder.

As an aside, there are 21 .dll files in the Program Files (x86) folder (all starting with api-ms-win and dated 09/27/2023) while none of those files are in the Program Files folder.

FYI, I have been using Thunderbird on this PC for almost five years.

How do I fix this problem so that I have only the current version of Thunderbird run from the proper folder, Program Files?

Maybe 10 years ago I used Thunderbird on my iMac. - I use Thunderbird at work and decided I miss some of the more advanced features that are not in Apple Mail on my iMac at home. - Especially after reading that Thunderbird could now share both iCloud's Apple Calendar and Contacts. - I am currently using Mac OS 10.11.6. A little behind the times, but I have been using apps that wouldn't run on the newer Mac OS. - Before installing the new version, I opened the old version of Thunderbird, went to the Tools/Account Settomgs and found the directory in the Mac OS library that needed deleted. and deleted it. I did this because most of my logins and settings have changed a lot and I want to import the current local folders and settings from the current version of Apple Mail. I use my email local folders extensively as a type of database to keep a history of purchases and other important information in the local folders. - I then used App Cleaner to delete the ten year old version of Thunderbird and the support files that were not part of the library folder, such as the actual application, Thunderbird. - I then downloaded and installed Thunderbird 60.31.1. Launched it. Chose not to make it my default because I want to make sure it works first. then went to tools/import and noticed I didn't have the the option to Import Everything. See Jpg. attached. - Then decided to try to import just the Mail. Chose Apple Mail. then Next. Got the No Mailboxes were found in the import message. Again, see the jpg. I did the same for the settings and got the "No Application or file to import data from was found" error message. See yet another jpg. I clicked Finish and went to the forums to search for a solution, but found nothing. So here I am. -what did I miss in this setup, migration from Apple Mail and Integration with contacts and Calendar (iCloud based)? Thank you for your assistance.

I couldn't get any of my screen shots to upload. Sorry.

I'm stetting up a testing environment. It's a closed environment with no access to the Internet when it's in use.

The environment is launched from AWS and consists of an Ubuntu 18 desktop and a Ubuntu Server running Apache. The desktop is able to successfully load the website, but with a cert error that the certificate isn't trusted.

When the Ubuntu Desktop launches, it has a fresh install of Firefox, and therefore all the directories in the users home folder are not yet setup for Firefox, including the database where the root CAs are stored.

I'm am able to add the Root CA certificate into the Firefox cert database AFTER the machine fully boots and I run Firefox for the first time. I'm using the 'certutil' package to do this. After I load Firefox, then add the root CA certificate using certutil, I'm able to load the website without error.

I need to add this certificate to the database with the startup shell script for the machine.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Here's the commands I'm using:

  1. copy the CA cert into firefox

export ffcerts=`ls /home/testuser/.mozilla/firefox/ | grep default-release` sudo certutil -A -n "testcert" -t "TC,," -i /home/testuser/certificates/testcertCA.pem -d sql:/home/testuser/.mozilla/firefox/$ffcerts

These commands work perfectly after Firefox is run for the first time. I've even tried adding 'Firefox' (with several different switches) into my startup script without success.

Hello,

When I go to update Firefox through the settings > general > firefox updates > check for updates, I am getting the error in the title. I can manually download the app installer and update to the most current version which is what I did for version 125.0.1, yesterday.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, installing the beta branch, refreshing firefox, running in troubleshooting mode, completely deleting all user firefox files, and I still get the error. No DNS resolver issues to the update server. No firewall issues. No network blocking (tested with other devices).

This issue started after March update to 124.0.1 and continues to current stable release 125.0.1.

This issue also seems to extend to checking for extension updates.

Below are browser logs for when i try to check for update or update extensions.

TBird 102.2.1 - just updated . . . and discovered that doing so caused several folder modifications I had just completed in the previous version disappeared. Really, really helpful . . . not.

Was in the midst of copying email files/messages to an external drive; 3/4 of the way through, in checking the "finished product" over there on the external, I discovered that -- regardless of what date the email had originally, TBird was changing all of the message dates to today's! That's really, really useful . . . I guess . . . in someone else's reality. My reality is that when I'm backing up email messages I have a reasonable expectation that they will each accurately reflect everything associated with the original(s).

So: How does one tell TBird to leave the original date(s) alone and copy the message(s) intact?

Guess it's now looking as if I will have to start this process all over -- and attempt to not seriously begrudge a program that makes such an unwarranted and unexpected change . . .

Thanks for any helpful information; appreciated.

Hi there.

This is my first post so bare with me.  :-)

We are deploying the 32-bit version of the Firefox Browser to 4 700 clients and the 64-bit version to only 8 clients; all clients on a 64-bit Windows 10 environment. We will migrate to Windows 11 22H2 this year. The manager for the 8 clients says he wants the 64-bits version just because it's...64-bits. No other reason.

I've read that the 64-bit version can not handle Java, Media Players like VLC and mayby some other plugins. Is that still so?

What is the main reason TODAY for using 64-bit Firefox Browser instead of 32-bit, except for the use of 4 GB+ RAM?

Regards. Anders, Göteborgs Stad, Sweden

We just got a new computer because the previous computer died. I downloaded and installed Thunderbird on the new machine, which has Windows 11. I entered my name, email *@nc.rr.com and password. It had IMAP configuration on the screen and when I clicked 'Done', it gave me the error "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." When I tried changing it to POP and clicked "Done", I got the same error.

There is a 'configure manually' link, but I do not know how to do that. Please let me know what I should do.

Thanks,
