Dearest creators, Firefox for Android have a bothering issue. In any Android phone while listening directly from SoundCloud site not from app, while only in background the sound of the music is clipped and sometimes interrupted. I only use Firefox and also as a music player and it's perfect, but lately I have found that SoundCloud have problems with audio rendering while (in my case only) Firefox is in background. Also for this site cannot be applied any sound equalizer compared to any other YT or online radio. Please fix this issue... You're the best!

I'm not sure why Firefox still bothers to call tabs, "tabs". A tab was originally called that because of its similarity to a filing cabinet's physical tabs where you can see the tab markers and use your thumb to quickly select one. As far as I can see Firefox for Android no longer has tabs. There's no tab bar (and even the URL bar is auto-hidden) and to see the 'tabs' you have to drag down, then select a button and then flip your brain from expecting to see a horizontal row of tabs to a vertical list of them. Similarly, to create a new tab used to involve taping on a plus sign in the same place, right next to the other tabs in the bar. Now, to make a new one you have to redirect your attention from the top of the screen (where tabs have always beenl to a plus sign down the bottom. This smacks of just changing things for the hell of it.

So.... The big ask..... is there any way to get back to the system and layout I'm used to and that I still use without a moment's though when I use Chrome? (Which I'd still rather not do all the time...). I'd like my tabs back please.

The 'pull down to refresh' feature is still missing. I was forced to install the most recent version of Firefox to appease the Android overlords, when I got the new S20. (Blackberry 5G still not ready...) The option to customize my gestures to refresh, is gone. When will this obvious feature be restored?

I am not sure this is the right forum to be asking all of the questions below but .. I am starting here and will be guided by your feedback if only some questions can be answered here.

All my questions pertain to Firefox Nightly on Android. 101.0a1 (Build #2015874793) It is my hope that the Q&A might help other users of Firefox Nightly on Android.

  1. (generic) Where will I find discussion of or documentation (specifications, user manual, usage notes, self-documenting source code, etc.) for the various Firefox settings accessible via about:config ?
  2. (specific) What is the intended use scenario for the media.volume_scale setting?
  3. (specific) What is the intended use scenario for the media.default_volume setting?
  4. (specific) What is the intended use scenario for the media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled setting?
  5. (generic) Is it reasonable to expect that a browser be able to determine either the RMS or Peak loudness of the src for a media element and mute (i.e. set ~.volume=0) if that loudness is above some user specified level? For example:
    • Might there be metadata within the file header that describes loudness just as there is metadata that describes duration?
    • Might parsing just the first 3-5 seconds of the file be sufficiently manageable to estimate loudness without grossly impacting page load-time or grossly taxing the CPU?
    • Might the default action be to set ~.volume=0 until such time as the browser has parsed the entire src to determine actual RMS loudness .. and only then restore ~.volume to user-prescribed maximum permitted volume iff RMS loudness is below a user prescribed threshold? (the bigger the file the longer that media is muted before it can be potentially unmuted!)

Thank you, in advance, for any time you spend responding to my questions. I am especially appreciative of links that I can follow to find answers for myself rather than being spoon-fed answers on a specific case by case basis.

Firefox for Mobile needs to sync Collections too.

My wife typically trusts me to make the tech decisions in my household, and is fine with using and supporting Mozilla and Firefox. Overall, she likes the new Mobile Firefox too, as do I.

She's a typical Tab Hoarder kind of user. On her last phone, I introduced her to Collections. Much easier to use and get to than Bookmarks, easy to understand, good at helping her control the immense amount of tabs she otherwise has open. She basically fell in love with the feature.

A few days ago she got a new phone. We still have her old one, but the screen is 1/3 cracks and it no longer holds a charge well. "Well loved", for sure.

Install Firefox on new phone --> sync over her stuff --> all good... Well, wait... Where are her collections with her hundred-or-more tabs in them for various stuff?

Turns out they don't sync?

I've been helping her manually move over the tabs from the collections on her old phone to the new phone, but I feel *extremely* lucky we still have the phone. If she'd lost her phone instead, that would be quite the amount of time she'd spent getting acquainted with and using this feature just to find it doesn't save anywhere.

This was all essentially written as a real-life use-case, for the following plea:

Please, *please* add Collections to what is able to be synced with the Firefox Sync feature.

Hi Could anyone suggest me, how can I configure Firefox on Android to open supported URLs in local applications by default (immediately on page opening, instead to manually touch special button)? Will be perfect, if we can set this option only for some URL patterns/apps

I tried to search in about:config with "app", "extern", "open" but fail on it =(

EVERYTIME I LEFT THE HOUSE THEY BROKE INTO IT SO I ALREADY BOUGHT 3 DIFFERENT SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS AND THEY ERASED THE FOOTAGE BY USING A MAGNET

for the awful piece of garbage being passed off as an update to what was once the best browser around?

This pos is wrong in soooo many ways and the patronising statement that Mozilla is 'listening" is just an insult.

Downgrading isn't an option because previous versions aren't available. Windows yes, Android no. That must be because no one would stay with the latest version, so we're forced to stay with it. NOT Me. After 20 years I'm dumping Firefox. This latest version is crap and I'm not willing to settle for reduced productivity or ease of use out of blind loyalty. I had to install Opera to do something that FF couldn't. It's faster than FF, less page conflicts, shares bookmarks between devices and is far better than the crapgrade that is FF80.1.x - far better.

The best thing is for Mozilla to go bust, that way there's a chance that whoever buys the remains realises that satisfying customer needs rather than their own weird ideas is what's important.

Maybe if enough readers vote for this post it'll send a message that this crapgrade isn't fit for use and is hated. They would do well to abandon it and reinstate the previous version, but that would mean admitting their mistake, and Mozilla has never done that, preferring instead to brainwash us that we'll like it when we're use to it. Bull.

Time is running out. Market share has fallen consistently and the competition has improved whilst FF has deteriorated. This crapgrade could be the straw that breaks it. It is for me. I'm importing my bookmarks into Opera and configuring it on desktop and Android. Sadly, after being with FF since the beginning (at work and home) and with Netscape Navigator before that, it's the end of the road for me. The world needs a variety in apps, but whatever this one has to offer, the price is too high.
