I just upgraded my desktop pc from Windows 10 to 11, and before the upgrade I used the Tools Export function to export my complete Thunderbird profile, so I could import it after the upgrade. Unfortunately the export file cannot be read on my upgraded pc using the Import function - Thunderbird gives me error messages every time, that suggest the exported folder might be corrupted or invalid.

My IMAP emails are fine, as I have set those accounts up from scratch and the folders have now populated with all the emails - the problem is all my filed emails, dating back many years, which were all stored manually in a filing system under Local Folders.

I tried manually copying across the individual files from the extracted back-up folder into my live Thunderbird profile and then reopened Thunderbird...which worked to some extent...as in, all the folders are there, but no emails are showing! It shows no messages under each folder, even though if you look under the Profile you can see that the email files exist.

I tried various ways to bring them in, including zipping one of the folders and trying to import from the zip file (which also brought in a folder but no emails) but even though the email files are clearly there under my profile, Thunderbird shows 0 messages in all my Local Folders. It's as though it is unaware the files exist, so I suspect it needs them to be formally imported somehow?

I would hate to lose the emails, as they document important information and purchases etc over many years, along with archived emails for my charity work, social events, etc. As I said, I can see the files are there but simply copying the files to my profile has only worked to the extent the filing 'structure' is visible, Thunderbird doesn't display any of the emails.

I have included two images...one of my Thunderbird Local Folders as they currently look, and the other showing the backed up files existing in my Profile, which I hope are helpful.

Can anyone help please? I am running a desktop PC on Windows 11. Thanks, David.

I use Thunderbird on Windows 10; I have a verizon.net email account which I access through Thunderbird. Verizon.net email is transferred to the server from AOL Mail, and I have been able to get and send my emails on Thunderbird at verizon.net for years. This week, after Thunderbird's latest update, I have not received any incoming mail on Thunderbird, but I can see my emails on AOL Mail. The technical expert I consulted deduced that the problem is with Thunderbird such that AOL is not connecting to the incoming mail server, even after the password was changed. I can send messages successfully from Thunderbird; the outgoing mail works.

I have used Thunderbird for years without issue. In the last 2 days, it keeps crashing on one of my laptops (fine on the other). I sent a crash report, but I can't reopen Thunderbird. I tried both quitting and restarting. I shut down my computer and restarted it. I tried updating by downloading the latest version, but that didn't work either. I completely uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and it worked for a few hours. Now, it is back to the Crash Report.

Any suggestions? I love TB and don't want to switch to something else.

Christine

Background I wanted to give Thunderbird a shot because I really, really got tired of Outlook and their shenanigans. About 2 months ago, I tried it a first time and had an issue that prevented me from sending emails from my Hotmail email accounts. I gave up after a week of troubleshooting.

Outlook has come up with more bugs and shenanigans, so I tried again, convinced that there had to be a solution. And I found one. If anyone is interested, I was getting the error "Login to server outlook.office365.com with username <...> failed", and the way I fixed it was by replacing "hotmail.com" with "outlook.com" in the server settings. However, not all is fixed yet.

Current problem I noticed that the messages in my Outlook mail (other than the inbox) are not syncing properly. When I start TB, it appears to sync folders because I have seen new emails in subfolders already. However, if new emails come in while TB is open, it only syncs them if they are in my inbox.

I have looked around already and found that when I right-click that email account and I choose "Subscribe...", it presents me with an empty list and I can't see or enable/disable any folder subscriptions (refresh does nothing). This is strange because of 2 reasons: 1. All my subfolders are there, and they seem to sync when I start up TB. But even if I immediately open the subscribe window, the list is empty. 2. I have a total of 4 email accounts configured, 2 Outlook and 2 Gmail. All except for 1 Outlook account show me the list of folders in the subscribe window, so that made me think it was something in my Outlook account settings. However, nothing I can find there seems to be helpful.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this? I'd rather not close and re-open my TB app each time I want to check for new messages. I really want to give TB an honest chance but it's not making it easy for me to like it right now.

PDF attachments to emails are sometimes corrupt. They are not displayed when the email is opened (only a blue line is shown); after they are saved they cannot be opened (Adobe and also EDGE give a message that the file is damaged). The same attachments can be opened and saved correctly using the free Outlook application from Windows. I noticed the problem this month. The installed version of Thunderbird is Thunderbird 128.2.2 esr - but the problem also existed with version 128.2.1.

I recently purchased a new computer and want to setup Thunderbird to use my ATT Yahoo mail account. I went through the automatic process and got an "incorrect information" message. I tried Yahoo's instructions and they don't match what shows up in the account setup in Thunderbird. I am stuck and need some step by step instructions to set this up. I found nothing in the help section. Thanks.

I'm boggled by this one. I use Thunderbird 128.2.0esr (64-bit) on Fedora and Gnome. I use it as my mail interface and my POP server is Gmail.

Earlier this week, when I pulled up the list of emails in my inbox, I noticed that emails from GitHub were all "From" one apparently random person. If I click on the email and look at the mail in the preview pane, it too has the incorrect "From" value.

However, if I reply to or forward the email, it will have the correct "From" address.

What's stranger, is I also get emails from Jira and other bots. They two have the same issue but with another person. For instance, all of my emails from GitHub now come from "John Smith". All my Jira emails come from "Elizabeth Doe (Jira)". The people they are coming from are people I receive those types of emails from, but not every single email. I've rebooted, and still the same problem, and still the same wrong people in the From field for GitHub, Jira, and others.

Any ideas?

The last update was and is terrible, what happened to all my groups in my address book, what a waste of my time. I have set up separate email lists for my clients and now I have lost it all. You invest time and effort into a product then through stupid updates that wipe out all that work makes the effort to support you a waste of time and money. Now I have to spend hours doing rework because of your ignorance and lack of care for your supporters, typical of tech, we broke it and we don't care.
