Hi all,

I just wanted to express my disappointment with the new Firefox 29 UI and no, I don't want to use an add-on that gives me a crippled 28 UI. I went back to 28.

People are always scared their computers get infected with a virus, I'm afraid the programmers around the world are infected with the LFECE (Let's F**k Everybody's Computer Experience) virus. There's a very easy test to see if programmers are actually infected; They go from user-friendly well designed intuitive UI's to an end users nightmare. (It's not just Firefox, they have not yet quite got up with MS's Windows 8.(1), but 29 is a good step in the wrong direction.
The worst thing about LFECE infected programmers is that they are utterly unable to admit their illness and defend there new UI that it is just amazing and we have to get used to it. Which is like saying to convicts on death row the will get used to hanging if they do it long enough.
Sorry for the rand, but I had to get it of my chest.

Regards, Jottum

Jottum,

Thank you for trying the new Firefox. I'm sorry that you’re unhappy with the new design.

Firefox is a work in progress and your feedback is very important to us. Our support community is run by volunteers (like me) who work hard to help all Firefox users, but we can’t make changes to the design ourselves. Please help us improve Firefox by leaving feedback where the designers and engineers can see it: https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/feedback.

Thank you for your reply Moses, now don't get me wrong I'm a long time FireFox user and I appreciate what this community and the programmers are doing.

That said, it is no excuse fore ruining a perfectly good UI. But like I said, it's a virus. Software vendors are mimicking more and more the appalling Windows 8 UI (like AVG antivirus for example) just because it's new. The fact that most people hate it, that computer sales have dropped dramatically since its introduction and that HP is now offering Windows 7 again doesn't seem to stop anybody from keep on going on a dead end road. End yes I think this is related to what is happening to FireFox now.
I'll post on the link you've supplied.

Jottum,

I understand your frustration in having to learn a new UI and menus and such. I have that same feeling sometimes with Photoshop. You have three options at this point.

  • Downgrade to 28 (I see you've done that but be warned that this exposes you to security risks as time goes on and more versions get released. Firefox is on a rapid-release cycle releasing a new version every month and a half)
  • Use add-ons to restore the pre-Australis look e.g. before 29's UI
  • Stay with 29

if you're going to stay at 28, I'm assuming I answered your question fully?

Moses,

Thank you very much - again - for your reply. I've posted on the link you've gave me BTW.

The second and third option are totally unacceptable for me, and I've already done the first. I'm aware there might be security risks in the future which means I'll have to ditch FireFox if the programmers don't come to their senses.
Your help is much appreciated and yes you've answered fully.

For those of you who - like me - refuse to use the appalling 29 UI, take a look at Palemoon. It won't follow Mozilla and looks very very much like Firefox 28. I've just installed it, it imported all my Firefox settings and add-ons and I removed every trace of Firefox from my computer. Permanently.

Jottum,

A little more information about Pale Moon

  • 64-bit
  • Will NOT be changed to the new Australis UI (from dev)

Note that those so called 64-bit builds are not based on Official source from Mozilla as there are no Win64 releases of Firefox yet and the only place to get Win64 at moment from Mozilla is on the unstable Nightly development channel and these are mainly built for breakage/regressions purposes.

PaleMoon is based on 24 ESR rather as the next ESR will be based on Firefox 31.0 with the Australis interface

I hope I can mark this question as solved by using your answer as the solution as you've switched to PaleMoon.
