Account settings not working on work laptop
I sort out webmails etc. for a cmte of volunteers. I usually have some problem setting up Thundebird for each of them but succeed in the end (it's usually a typo somewhere). I'm finally stumped with one issue. I can set up my Thunderbird on my pc to access this one account, but when we tried it on her work laptop we couldn't get the configuration to work. The webmail account is provided by Namesco - I always have to do the configuration manually. The operating system is Windows 7 - I did remember to change the firewall settings, but this didn't help. Thunderbird was installed from fresh very recently.
The problem would appear to be an issue with her laptop, but I can't think what else might be preventing Thunderbird from configuring the account. Access to the internet (via wi-fi) was working. Apparently her IT people aren't that helpful and anyway, it's not really a work issue. There didn't appear to be any restrictions with downloading and installing. I'm pretty sure we tried the 'Run as administrator' option too. Any ideas?

Has the account been set-up?
What error message do you get?
Christ1: "Has the account been set up?"
- What do you mean? The webmail account has been working for years. I've set up Thunderbird on several machines to access this and similar accounts over the years. But on this particular laptop I can't get Thunderbird to connect.
Can't remember what the error message was. I can check later this week when I'll have access to the laptop again.
Sfhowes: I'm not sure how this would help. The account details were all there in Thunderbird, but just could not access the webmail.
Offline allow you to force feed Thunderbird a non working account so you can try and figure it out latter. Is better to try installing the account in windows safe mode with networking.
Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
- If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
