Since upgrading to 29. Firefox snags with a beachball that spends for seconds. How can I prevent the snag?

There were two upgrades very close together. I upgraded and now have 29.0. No matter whether I'm going to an address, typing into a box, or waiting for a website to load, the Mac "beach ball" will spin for a few seconds before loading. I use the default theme. I have minimal - (Xmarks and Trend micro), which weren't a problem before. Is there something I can do besides disabling the add-ons?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a hunch that its XMarks that's causing this...But the Trend Micro toolbar doesn't do well either in my head. You can disable XMarks first then if it's fine, then Trend Micro is the problem and vice versa.

Firefox 29 is a beta version and is expected to be released later in April. I don't know how you jumped over from the 'release' channel to the 'beta' channel. You were supposed to go from 27.0.1 to 28. Weird..Anyway....

Is this happening on every site or just certain ones? There's a couple of things you could try:

Hi Moses B. I tried the first two suggestions and did have a plugin to update. Thanks for that. Neither solution worked for the beach ball problem, although the ball is rotating for a shorter duration, it seems.

I've tried the third before and had so many problems getting my profile back on track I got quite discouraged. Maybe I shouldn't be on the beta-channel. Is there anyway to switch and yet keep all my settings?

Update:

I reverted back to Firefox 28 (in answer to my own question). The beach-ball problem is still there. It lasts, for short periods, for at least 20 seconds. I'll welcome other solutions.

The profile solution didn't resolve the problem (someone walked me through the process).

Thanks again for your help!

Can you type about:support into the Address Bar then click Copy raw data into clipboard then paste it here?

I've also requested some assistance from the SUMO Help Desk to see if they can give additional insight on this problem. It'll take no more than 72 hours to receive a reply from them. The replier will be either guigs2 or patrickmcc. Considering this is the end of the week, you'll probably receive a reply sometime Monday.

I tried pasting the data but it's too large for the text box.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. I'll look for the replies.

Chideb,

It shouldn't be too big. Just copy it and paste it into the text box then click Post Reply. It'll go through!

I couldn't paste it. It's 14,082 characters long. Can I upload a RTF file?

14,000 characters? What..?

Just paste bin it

I've never used pastebin. I've copied the information there. Is there an address I need to use to send it or something?

Once you copied the info there, click Submit at the bottom. Once the page reloads, copy the URL and paste it here.

I trust I've not shared any private information . . .

No, you haven't. The information you gave me is non-personal information and is only used for troubleshooting. --- Try Firefox in Safe Mode to see if it still snags. You can open Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Click the orange Firefox button, go to Help, and click Restart with add-ons disabled. Does it still happen?

So far so good. My internet security on Firefox is disabled and my bookmarks are disabled. Do you recommend adding one back, or do you know of known issues with either? Thanks again for your help.

You may be right. I enabled the Xmarks and the ball came back. I still have the Trend Micro off.

Is there another bookmarking site that you recommend that works well with Firefox? I found this morning that my toolbar had been compromised; thanks to Xmarks I was able to restore it. Still, the beachball spin is a real hassle. I appreciate your help, Moses.

You can keep Trend Micro off as it doesn't provide anything useful, just annoyance, to me at least. I despise toolbars.

Errr, I'm not aware of any bookmarking addons but I'm sure you can find a few options over at AMO (addons.mozilla.org). I would help you look for one, but I'm really low on energy and I have to go to sleep. It's 10am, I haven't slept and I have to go to work at 3pm.
