Is my Windows XP protected with firefox after april 8 2014?
I have switched to Avast free antivirus because microsoft security no longer supports windows xp. However, I get po-ups and unwanted advertising. Is there something else I could be using to protect my computer from malware and spyware when using firefox?

Hello croic, thanks for asking this here.
Firefox can protect you when you browse websites. But it cannot protect your system. Protection of your system depends on your Antivirus and vendors system updates. Since Microsoft is not supporting Windows XP anymore, you should update your system ASAP. Because If there is a security hole in your system, Microsoft won't fix it. So, you system will remain insecure. So my suggestion is to Upgrade your system.

You can look at other scanners to see if they will continue to support Windows XP
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
