new tab will not go to default browser, why not?
I have gone to about:config, browser.newtab and set the default browser to google, and as long as I continue to work in this session the new tab opens to google. But, if I log off the internet, close my browser and reopen, the first tab goes to google, but any new tab goes to start.iminent.com/startweb/1033/Newtab.aspx. Very frustrating! Please help.

But, on closer inspection, you have an extension named Iminent, so that file might be re-created immediately if you don't remove that. Does it serve any known useful purpose?
You can review/disable and usually remove unwanted extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Note: If the Remove button is missing, you generally need to remove the extension through the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. I suggest clicking the "Installed on" column heading so the most recent items are grouped together.

Changes to your settings when you exit and restart Firefox often are caused by a user.js file, which Firefox reads at startup and uses to override your previously saved settings. This article describes how to track down and remove the file: How to fix preferences that won't save.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there. you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js
Thank you all for your help. I didn't realize that Iminent was an uninstallable download, which I must have downloaded with an update of some sort. I was able to uninstall and remove the tool bar through Firefox add-on menu.
