Things have gotten worse. I am unable to reset Firefox because the moment I go to Tools> (etc) reset Firefox, it crashes.

None of the Flash help I have received from both Adobe and Mozilla is helpful.

I finally uninstalled Firefox completely and on a whim, thought I would install Seamonkey. It runs.........But, will not play ANY Flash. The plug in crashes as soon as I try to access any Flash site.

I can use Chrome with no difficulty. I can use IE with no difficulty. So, guess what??? Firefox is out until someone can fix the problem. I'm convinced that Firefox can not handle any Flash software whether Macromedia, Adobe, Shockwave or any other part of it. That is totally unacceptable.

The way I see it, I need to revert to an older version of Firefox AND Flash player. Once I can do that I think it will work together because none of this happened until the newest version was installed.

Where can I find all the older versions of Firefox?? And will I have any difficulty installing them.

Like I said before, I'm a long time fan of Firefox. Problem is, it tries my patience just to get it running again when you folks do an upgrade. The problem ALWAYS involves Flash in some form.

With great anxt and sadness,

I don't know what happened or if I did something right for a change. Flash player is now working in FF. A few of the things I did was

I found that my graphics drivers were out of date so I installed up to date AMD drivers.

As Carm mentioned ninite.com, I checked it out and downloaded all the updates for the anti everything I have plus a couple new ones.

I really didn't do any more than clean up a few things and someplace in there, both Youtube and Dailymotion started working, Sites that use Silverlight still don't work, however.

Is there a way to force HTML5??

If you think it is .NET, there is a site which will update your .NET framework based on your OS, taking the guess work out of which version is needed as there are only a zillion flavors of .NET and variants i have come across.

The site is called ninite.com

the actual address for the .NET install there is: http://ninite.com/.net/ just run it. its a totally legit site.

Might want to give that a try, as it takes the guess work out of which .NET you should DL

Did you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open the crash reports page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

I may be mistaken, and yet it seems that the update/upgrade to .NET 4.5.1 has had a negative effect on just about every plug in used by all my browsers in some way.
Silverlight, Flash, Windows Media Player and just about all other rich media type stuff. It seems to be dependent on the site and browser combination.

VLC Media player and the optional plugin can handle many different content types and may conflict with other plugins that handle the same type. Did you ever look into VLC Media Player as part of the problem and disable the VLC Web plugin in the Firefox and SeaMonkey Add-ons Plugins list? There's also a VLC ActiveX control that may be causing issues in IE. Not sure about Chrome.

I have been seeing noises on some of the software forums I follow that just maybe the .NET update may be involved in some way. This has affected most of my video editing and conversion software. They either won't load or just quit if they do.

Your best bet to get help with that would be a Windows forum such as

I did disable VLC plugin. I didn't see any change unless things got worse. I've had trouble with Windows Explorer crashing all eve.

I did make contact with those forums you mentioned. I may have been chasing my tail with thinking it is FF. Won't know for a few days, after I ask a few questions on windowsbbs.com. The attitude there seems to be pretty good and a few folks have asked a couple questions that started me thinking in other directions. On guy said that this may be either malware or a virus. Yeah, I'd thought about that and ran some pretty strong stuff. Didn't really shake any thing loose. Maybe they have some better ideas. So wait and see. I want to cool off before I get in any deeper with a new tack. It will require a different mindset.

I can't help but wish I was a software guru. My son is, but he's lost here with me. It's scary out there. There are killing trees. 6 of them. The woods are dark this time of year.

This could be an issue with hardware acceleration.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

Updating your graphics drivers most likely helped, based on the information shown under "Crashing thread" in the crash reports with Signature: @0x0 | HeapFree, including the last two you furnished, which refer to files and devices related to graphics.

So, it looks like the original question regarding Flash player and Firefox crashes is solved so I'm going to mark your last answer as solving it.

I think you should post this as a new question if no one else has another suggestions for that problem.

ninite.com is not a legit site for the .net framework download as it does not even state what version it is. The legit place for .net download is at Microsoft site such as http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851

Thanx James. I thought that.

At the moment, I think Flash is resolved. Another player problem has come to light and I will start a new thread when I sort it out.

Thanx to everyone, youse guyses are great..............

I think FireFox is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Let's hope you are equally successful at resolving whatever the current other issue is.

I get the impression ninite.com has a business model likely to benefit from downloading out dated versions of software and having some users subscribe to a paid update service. Certainly not a site I would recommend.

This following certainly is not important; after all, you have solved your problem; but at sometime should you have the time and inclination, you could try investigating your FlashPlayer problem further.

  1. Try temporarily rolling back the graphics driver updates
  2. Does that cause the problems and crashes to reoccur ?
  3. Do the crashes & problems then only occur outside of Firefox's safe mode.
  4. What about disabling hardware acceleration is that sufficient to stop the problem ?
  5. &/Or do problems only occur when outside of the plugincontainer.
  • If you do get solid answers then what are the drivers, graphics card and FlashPlayer version involved.

The above questions are only of minor importance. Answers just demonstrate; in this instance; what the actual cause of the problem was likely to have been.

I found something out at 3AM this morning. It appears that there may be an issue with user account in Windows. While trouble shooting Silverlight with Netflix, I tried running Firefox (and several other things) as administrator and it seems that fixes everything. I won't know more until I spend time on it tonight. As soon as I opened any browser "as administrator" they all ran flawlessly.

I also discovered a new browser and may be using it exclusively. It is not Firefox. It is Waterfox. Your new 64 bit browser. Sorry Firefox. ;-)

more options

A Windows 64bit version of Firefox is some way off, and Waterfox is aimed at different users but is still based on Mozilla Firefox

That will open up the possibility of using 64 bit FlashPlayer I guess.

I often suggest to Windows users that in accordance with MS own good practice they should avoid using Admin accounts for day-to-day activities, including browsing.

.... If you create new user accounts, you should also make them standard accounts. Using standard accounts will help keep your computer more secure.

Most software should work in ordinary accounts once it is installed. I wonder if some problems may be because the majority use Admin accounts and so bugs relating to user ordinary accounts are not quickly reported and fixed.

Of course if you have opened a new OS account you will have also created and used a new Firefox profile. That alone is a step that may resolve some issues.

I'm sorry to be so late in responding. I had to re install win 7, and it doesn't want to recognize my monitor. The only way it works for now is in safe mode with networking. Just wanted to let you know that if i seem to disappear, it's because I'm hiding from windows. After all, it is sentient and has it in for me.

Maybe the effort will be worth it and it will work better. Windows is not the only thing we may need to be paranoid about !
