Firefox launched through Launchy crashes flash. Replicated the issue on 2 different computers. Launched Firefox from taskbar in Windows 7, doesnt do so. Why is this the case? https://sourceforge.net/projects/launchy/ I activate Launchy using Alt+F2.

We are sorry, but Launchy is not a Mozilla product, therefore we can not assist you with this problem.
This is most likely an error with the way that Launchy opens Firefox.

Please contact the Launchy support team for further assistance.

Please elaborate on the issue, what is Launchy doing? Is Launchy crashing Firefox? Is Launchy crashing Flash in Firefox? Please provide more details to assist you.

If you can also:

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.

ComputerWhiz : thanks for that, but a solution from launchy, would be difficult, i have posted a query there as well. Hoping someone replies.

feer56:

Launchy is crashing flash in firefox This is how i do it:

  1. Alt+F2-starts launchy
  2. I type firefox and open the browser (it opens the browser)
  3. Try to play flash content anywhere (youtube or the like)-then flash crashes.
  4. Close firefox, and start FF from taskbar.
  5. Everything is okay, flash content plays fine.

In the attached image: Firefox starts using the 'path' Start Menu\Programs\Mozilla Firefox.lnk (it accesses a .lnk file).

This was a problem for a long time ( which i thought was for flash plugin): I reported it before, (when it was unknown to me about this Launchy effect). I have adopted to the solution of Shumway suggested there already, but Shumway doesnt work always. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/975551?esab=a&s=&r=1&as=s

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

Done and the plugins are up to date. The issue does refer to how firefox launches from taskbar vs how it launches from Launchy ( i think they are one and the same). Will await a response from someone in the Launchy community on sforge.

Two of the Firefox crash report IDs have to do with a crash in the Flash plugin. If it is already up-to-date, try disabling hardware acceleration in Flash settings - see Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again for details and other solutions.

The Launchy site at http://sourceforge.net/projects/launchy/ has its own support. If the crashes only occur using the Launchy utility, the best I can suggest while you wait for a reply from someone in the Launchy community is to stop using Launchy.

I noticed that Launchy is attempting to open a Firefox shortcut, not the executable file.

Please try launching Firefox, via the executable file.

Tried launching the executable by directing Launchy to access the firefox.exe from the program files. And Flash still crashes..

I know this is absolutely the wrong place to discuss this, as a third party launching of ff is causing this problem. This is a strange situation which has started happening only recently. (with an earlier version i didn't have a problem). I have been using Launchy for more than 3 years (and launching firefox using it). Both the launch states seem so similar (by the way they are accessed from the executable).

HI geronimo87, The crashes asked for from feer56 are showing that there are a few bugs related to the memory consumption of Adoble Flash plugin, but since it is reproducible I am going to create a new bug for this.

Please free some unused memory and launch the browser from Launchy and let us know if it crashes again. May I have permission to add the crash reports to the bug?

Please keep an eye on this bug as well while we watch the progress of the bug: [Bad Flash content causing long browser hang and high ram usage.]

rmcguigan: Thanks and yes, please do the necessary for filing the bug.

As for freeing unused memory: I did clear the memory, delete my profile and started afresh, the problem continued to persist. For now will follow the high memory usage report.

Ok I followed up, sorry for the late reply. Please make sure firefox launches with out Launchy if possible. This will help us identify if the crash is caused by one or the other, or the combination. T

I found these bugs to track the issues based on your crash reports:

Please also try to disable and re-enable your anti-virus, and make sure that flash is white listed in it.
