yahoo emails display sender, subject and body in email listing
The past couple of days my yahoo mail displays subject and as much of the body that space allows. The folders are all messed up. The whole screen is a mess. Nothing like it used to be. It works fine in IE.

This is not a reply. I want to add more info and some screen dumps. There might be a correct way to do this. This is my first time requesting help. I've spent several hours trying, and failing, to resolve my problem. I have 4 computers and they all show the incorrect screen layout. My wife has a yahoo email account and they work like they should. Thanks for any help you can give. The first dump is from IE and is correct. The second one is from FF and is bad.
It's a bit strange. When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, either:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that appears, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.
- View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Command+0 on Mac)
If you have made changes to Advanced font settings like increasing the minimum/default font size then try the default minimum setting "none" and the default font size 16 in case the current setting is causing problems.
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
I tried all the steps you listed but still get the same results. One thing occurred to me last night. My newest PC is running Windows 7. I have been getting so many popups while in FF and in my haste to shut down for the night I might have clicked on one of them and who knows what could happen in doing that. Thanks for the suggestions. If you think of anything else to try, please pass them along.
All my settings were already as you suggested trying. Thanks for the input and if you think of something else, please pass them along.
Just to clarify one of your earlier comments, if your wife logs in to Yahoo! on your Firefox, does she get the same problem of missing styles that you do, or does hers lay out correctly?
On any of the 4 PCs, I can enter FF and then sign on to yahoo mail and the screen is incorrectly formatted. I can then sign out of yahoo mail, sign on to yahoo mail using her id and pw and the screen is properly formatted. By the same token, I can do the reverse and sign on her email, sign out and then log on to my email and have the same results - hers is good and mine is bad. Hope that makes sense. I would hate having to use IE instead of FF. FF is a better product, easier to use and runs faster.
Hard to think of a reason for the difference. I think Yahoo has pushed everyone to the "new" Yahoo style from the classic, and I can't think of any other account-specific settings, except perhaps themes. Can you make sure you and your wife have the same theme settings?
I ran into some weird things looking for the theme. The drop down menus are completely different between the two. As to the themes, my wife's has 29 themes and mine has only 4. I changed the theme but that didn't seem to change anything but the background. In the settings viewing emails the Plain text font was changed from San Serif 1 to Serif1. I reset it and that corrected the problem where the body was showing in the subject line. The folder column used to have a scroll bar but no longer. I have to click on a box to expand the folder listing which truncates the top folders until I click the box and condense the folder listing. If we can come with a cure for this, I think this problem can be closed. Thanks for your help. Any more ideas? Anyone else?
I have the same problem as cardsfan.... When I access my email at work through IE, my email has my regular settings. At home, through Firefox, I have weird themes, the layout is different, etc.,,, and it's harder to use. I think it's a Firefox issue.
Did you try to clear the Yahoo cookies? "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Does it have any effect if you open the site in a new Private Browsing mode window?
Yes. Tried both and nothing has changed.
I wish to thank everyone who offered suggestions. I've come to the conclusion it was changes made by yahoo in their mail layouts as all my accounts are now in the same new format, even when using IE which I would use only if that was my only option. I HATE IE. I'm going to close this request as soon as I determine how to do it.
