Hi Update_Fail,
check here for information: Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems
For more information see this page: Flash
I would uninstall flash and would try to install manually as described here: Install the Flash plugin to view videos, animations and games Was this helpful? Please report back!

  1. Go to the Flash Player Download Page at Adobe.com and download the Flash installer.
  2. When the download has finished, close Firefox. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select Exit
  3. Open the Flash installer file you downloaded and follow the instructions.

If you are having problems with the Flash installer from Adobe's download page, you can download the full Flash Player installer directly from Adobe.com.
As a second try, I would uninstall Flash and download Flash 10.3
Details on this here: Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again

Note that IE uses the ActiveX version while Firefox uses the Other Browsers version. Uninstall the current version of Flash before installing the new version.

Also to be sure, where are you downloading flashplayer11x32_mssd_aih.exe from?

Hi Fiery, next time you encounter this, please start a new thread showing all your environment information (plugins, extensions, etc.). There are some isolated issues with Flash in recent weeks but we need more data to figure out the pattern(s).

firefox.i have been with you forever, however, the problems with flash are unbearable and flat out terrible. I have no add ons. my firefox worked PERFECT until i upgrade a few days ago. BAM, my entire internet experience has been destroyed. i have spent 8+ hours trying to get flash working again. i have TRIED EVERYTHING. i have uninstalled and re-installes flash over 20 times. all updates, ever previous versions. plugin version, full versions, etc.. i have had to uninstall firefox 3 times now, and ever water fox wont play flash. i reverted to an old version of flash from a year ago( which is unsafe ) but it seemed to make a few videos play on youtube, but it was very selective. chrome, ie work perfect. no matter what version of flash i use. I know firefox wants the newest flash to be used, but for some reason, when i download flash, it goes through setup process , then does not recognize my flash and asks me to download it again. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH FLASH PEOPLE...IT IS FIREFOX. EVERY YEAR I GO THROUGH THIS BS WITH FIREFOX.i have the NEWEST firefox, as of today. i have the newest flash, as of today. i have NO add ons and i DO have shockwave extension, java enabled. i have almost had it with this PIECE OF S**T BROWSER butting heads with flash. WHY IS IT THAT EVERY OTHER BROWSERS WORKS PERFECT . you tube, world star, IGN, every videos works FINE. BUT NOTHING WORKS IN FIREFOX. PLEASE...tell me what to do to get flash working . this is an internal FIREFOX problem ...NOT FLASH.....GET IT FIXED.

Hi firefoxfan22, what version of Windows? Do you just get a black rectangle or does the Flash plugin crash? Does Flash work on Adobe's test page? http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

I must sadly confirm what others have noted. Firefox has become nonfunctional with flash.Reset, etc, nothing worked. I too have moved my bookmarks etc to chrome. That is the easiest solution.

Hi jfar, if you decide to return to Firefox, please start a new question showing your configuration info (e.g., operating system, settings). You can do that here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop/fix-problems

(I may be an unusually lucky user, but the only version of Flash that ever crashed regularly on me was the initial release of 11.3.)

Since these don't already appear in this thread, I'll post a few extra steps that can help with Flash problems:

(1) Update any video recorders/downloaders to the latest versions

(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

(3) Disable the Flash Player's protected mode (Windows Vista / 7 / 8)

See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

Hi, I had exactly the same problem. On my computer, the problem has been resolved by disabling the automatic downloading and registering from RealPlayer (-->Preferences-->download and register...) Hope this helps :) Best regards

Just roll back to an earlier version of FF

Running FF 21 was also experiencing FF was not responding. Realized over the weekend it may be the newly installed Adobe Flash player after multiple FF resets. This afternoon after finding out it was hosed again after only a day since FF reset I uninstalled Adobe flash version 11....and returned to a webpage that would have caused FF to hang up and all was good. From previous post from"alco" on 2/16/2013 I installed previous adobe flash version 10.3. FF seems to be working correctly and my kid can once again play "pet rescue" on FB. Not sure if rolling FF back to earlier version would yield same results but this is what I did and seems to have worked so far for me....fingers crossed when tomorrow comes.

FLASH NOT WORKING WELL WITH WINDOWS VISTA AND WIN 7 CRASHING FIREFOX!

I too have had flash issues since their 11.3 version was released. Flash was unstable on all browsers. It was obvious that Flash was the issue because it would keep disappearing from the computer on every shutdown and restart. Then if I tried to reinstall it it the .exe file would just disappear and nothing would happen. It got so bad that Mozella Stopped working all together. While Firefox would start up, as soon as I opened a window in YouTube it would hang then crash.

At first I was blaming Firefox for these issues, thinking they were not keeping pace with the latest flash updates but the reality is that flash is not playing well with windows.

To prove this, I booted into Windows Safe mode and flash would install there and Firefox ran just fine. But as soon as I booted back into the full operating OS it failed to recognize flash altogether acting like it had never been installed.

The easy fix was to un-install Flash's latest update which is currently 11.7.700.224 I used the un-install file from their site. http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

Then I navigated to their archive page at: Flash http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html

I then Installed the earlier version of Flash 10.3.183.90 .

Firefox now runs smoothly with this version of Flash which also has security which you need.

I plan to use this version until Adobe gets their act together and creates a new installer that works on all windows formats. That might be awhile since they have messed up the last four versions with each update getting worse and worse......!!!!

Hope this finally helps others with this problem!

Hi rivenmaster, unfortunately Adobe is ending security update support for Flash 10.3 by next month, unless someone there has a change of heart. Since each system has a different configuration, if you do run into problems with Flash 11 in the future, you may want to start a new thread with your OS and Firefox add-on details.

This first happened to us last Thursday. Adobe Flash 11.7 r700 crashing 100% with Firefox 22.0.

I found lots and lots of suggestions. Turn off protect mode, uninstall, reinstall, click your heels together 3 times...nothing worked.

I finally found someone that posted that their solution was that they checked to see what had changed on their computer. They found 3 updates the day Adobe Flash stopped working. They removed the windows update that occurred that day and suddenly Adobe Flash started working again.

I checked my recent updates and found about 5 windows updates on the day Adobe Flash stopped working as well as 4 other software updates. For me it was the AVG toolbar update. I removed that and Flash has been working ever since.

I'd suggest checking to see what updated on the day it first happened and uninstall those updates. Then once you confirmed it is working start adding back in those updates to see which triggers the fail.

I hope that helps.

Jim, My issue continues but I'm not sure what updates are affecting Flash. I can get Flash 11.7 to install and work now in Firefox, but If I log off or turn off the computer I have to re-install it every time. It does not remember that it was installed or seems to not recognize the fact that it had been installed. I still can not get it to install in IE but it works in Safari! Regardless my problem now is having to continually re-install it.

Outside of doing a complete reinstall of my system on the laptop I have no solution. But thanks for your feedback I'm sure it will help someone else!
