How do I move 1 and only 1 bookmark folder from 1 computer to another? Both computers are using Firefox. I only want to move 1 bookmark folder. NOT all my bookmarks. I DO NOT want to alter the bookmarks on the other computer other than adding 1 folder. This seems like it should be easy but thus far seems impossible. I can't be the only one who saves bookmarks on different computers.

Hello az99, you can Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks , then you can edit the html file(delete all other folders, and keep the folder you want) with notepad, and then Import Bookmarks from an HTML file in your other computer. Not so difficult, you can do it.

EDIT: also Update Firefox to the latest version, your 11.0 version is unsupported and vulnerable.

thank you

I tried that. When I open in Notepad all I get are are pages of hieroglyphics. I also tried Word. Even worse. The only program I can open it in is IE that it looks like anything readable. It then shows all the hyper links. If that is correct, what do I do with it from there? Why isn't there a simple C&P or save function? It would seem it would be useful for transferring bookmarks from device to device. Thanx

Have you updated to firefox 18 yet? Do that before doing anything else.

Has something changed in 18 to make easier? Otherwise I will wait until next week and download version 22. :)

18 has dozens of bug fixes plus security improvements. Before continuing further you should update to ensure stability.

OK I updated. It still does not have a function to move a folder that I can find.

You should be able to copy that one folder and paste it in an HTML capable editor or possible rich text Firefox editor window like the Midas demo page and save that page.

See this thread for JavaScript bookmarklet code to cleanup the code (also work in the Web Console command line).

You can also do this in a blank tab (about:blank) and set document.designMode="on" via a JavaScript bookmarklet.

javascript:void(document.designMode="on");

Paste all bookmarks in the browser window. Is this case you can use this bookmarklet code to cleanup the bookmark code.

javascript:(function(){var E=document.body; E.innerHTML=E.innerHTML.replace(/<dt>/ig,"<h3>").replace(/<\/dt>/ig,"</H3>").replace(/<dd>/ig,"<dt>").replace(/<\/dd>/ig,"");})();

Thanks for the attempts at helping but having to go into Java editors and such is certainly not an easy and straight forward method of doing this (to me) simple task. Why is this such a difficult function? Does no one else using Firefox move bookmarks? I guess I will just have to save the current JSON file on the laptop and replace it with the JSON from the desktop. Then do the reverse when I am finished using the bookmarks.

You do not need to do anything with Java. If you export the bookmarks, then use a text editor (not a word processor) to isolate the folder that you want, you can then import that. HTML bookmarks imported are appended, and do not replace bookmarks already present.

Here is what I get when I open with Notepad. Plus many pages more.

You should have some items with H3 tags, which would be folders. Underneath those will be items with A tags, which are bookmarks. Remove the folders with their bookmarks that you do not want, leaving only the one with its bookmarks, then import that into the other computer.

You could simply import the whole works and then tidy up the bookmarks afterwards if that seems too complicated.
