Now Java is updated throughout my computer but the test site at their homepage indicates I don't have it.

Wanted to let you nice people know who tried to help me that Java put up another new update (gee, I wonder why?) and after several installs and removal of older Java, it finally took. Everything matches in my computer where it's supposed to be except for one thing. Someone who had earlier answered my question told me to go to the Java homepage and test there to see what version I had. After Java properly installed and plug-in page and my add-on page and my installed programs all jived, I went to Java to just check if it reflected my new version and it doesn't. It bounces to a page saying why Java isn't working. Well, duh. I have news for it, I have it done. I think these things are done to drive us crazy. LOL! Anyway, just wanted to let you know the latest and thanks!

I can't just type *about plug-ins* alone in the address bar I need a web address for that. Unless you're asking me to copy and paste my mozilla plug-in page. Sorry, you're dealing with a person that's not very technical. Most of what I know, I've learned on my own. Thanks

more options

Yes you can, type "about:plugins" (without quotes) into the address bar, then press Enter. It will take you to a page that shows every plugin (flash, java, etc.) that Firefox has installed. Select that whole page, copy it, then paste it here please.

more options

If you mean where I type a web address, I tried that and it doesn't work. If I do it in the search area, it just gives me a whole list of things talking about plug-ins plus my Mozilla plug-in site.

Return to Top Frequently asked Questions What is a plugin?

Plugins power videos, animation and games.
They're built outside of Firefox by companies like Adobe Systems and Apple.
   Plugins don't always update automatically.

Why should I update my plugins?

Old plugins can interrupt browsing and waste your time.
Old plugins increase your risk for attack by malware, viruses, and other security threats.
Updated plugins have improvements that make the web better and safer for you.

How can Firefox help me?

In the future, Firefox will update plugins for you. Until then, you should regularly check this page and update your plugins to stay safe. Which plugins do I have?

We automatically detected your plugins above, to view your installed plugins in Firefox follow these steps:

   Open the Tools menu.
   Choose Add-ons.
   Click the plugins tab.

How do I disable a plugin?

In Firefox:

   Open the Tools menu.
   Choose Add-ons.
   Click the plugins tab.
Click on a plugin in the list.
   Click the Disable button.

Caution: disabling a plugin means that you will no longer be able to do certain things. For example, if you disable Flash, you will not be able to watch videos on YouTube. Have more questions?

Well then you aren't typing it in right or something is seriously wrong with your Firefox. Have you Reset it? Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings? Try to do that, then go to about:plugins in the address bar again. Don't put in any http, or www or anything, just delete everything in the address bar, type in about:plugins (and nothing else) then press the enter key

more options

I went and sent you a copy of my plug-in page. I'll go see about the re-setting thing.

more options

No you didn't actually, you sent me a copy of the plugin check page, which isn't what I asked for. Reset firefox, then go to about:plugins and give me a copy of that.

more options

Yes, I know what I sent. I thought that may help. But I don't need to re-set FF, especially after I read what I could do to all my settings. My computer may be set up differently. I got what you wanted under my troubleshoot page about plugins that way. Sending you that in a separate page now.

more options

I've been trying to send this too you but support is saying it's too many words.

more options

Can't eliminate anything from the enabled page or you won't see it. I'm going to try and send it to you in 2 parts. This is what you wanted to see.

Ok, now if you go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp, does it show that you have Java installed? If not, what exact message do you see? Also, did you reset Firefox?

more options

Some of that looks like it repeated itself. I give up. I'm probably going to be leaving shortly. If any of what I sent helps you figure out why the Java test site is saying I don't have Java installed when I do, I'll get back to you probably within a day. At this point, maybe it's not that important after all this. I've at least updated Firefox.

more options

I don't know if you saw what I finally sent you, but it is my enabled list you needed to see. Support wouldn't send it first because too wordy but I split it and now it looks like it repeated. Anyway, I did mention above that I went to Java and it tells me that something is wrong, Java is not working and then it says I need a plug-in to see contents and when I did it downloaded the same version I just updated. When it said I already had it and do I want to re-install I said yes. It's on there, just Java doesn't agree. And I did everything you said but re-set Firefox. I didn't need too because after my fifth try I was able to get the enable page like you said. Anyway, there are too many iffy things that apparently can happen when you re-set. Right now I am going to just assume it's okay because everything I've been reading on here from other people having nearly the same problem all say close to what my problem is and that's Java is telling them they don't have it installed when they do. I am not alone it seems. But if anything I sent you from my enabled plug-ins page tells you anything, please let me know. If I don't answer right away it's because I'm leaving shortly and probably won't get on until late tomorrow because I have to go to work Sat. Thanks an awful lot.
