Firefox is FREEZING sporatically EVEN when JUST closing tabs!
I usually have 4 firefox windows open with about 50 tabs. NORMALLY. Never had a problem till recently and EXCESSIVELY today. I thought it was a flash problem because everytime I would try playing battlepirates on Facebook it would freeze. So, I tried closing some tabs after I restored. Then I noticed it would freeze also while just closing some tabs.
So far today it has frozen ABOUT 13-15 times. Note: CPU usage is not as high as normal. only about 300Meg I USUALLY run as high as 900 Meg- 1.2 Gig

First, try to reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings. This simple step will eliminate many Firefox problems with only one click.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this: Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/.
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.
I did a reset of firefox like you suggested.
I have always kept my windows updated.
my graphics driver is up to date
I took out all plugins just to be safe I have no viruses on my computer - I am a programmer - so I keep careful watch of it and I do use malwarebytes and avg.
I opened one firefox window with 12 tabs. Closed a tab - froze. Had to close firefox. Restarted, restored previous session. Closed another tab - froze. This repeated itself 4 times in a row!!!
I even tried using an older version of flashplayerplugin. still nothing works. Guess I will have to use chrome or IE. Although I do prefer Firefox. I have used firefox since the 1st year it came out so disappointing that this is happening now.
I'm recently having this problem aswell. Running Windows 7, everything updated to the fullest with a i7, 16GB DDR3 ram and a Geforce 580. Furthmore it's not having anything to do with slow internet or network either as I'm on a T3 Fiber. I'm having a hard time labeling this as hardware related or dependent on other similiar factors as it's a new problem that's appeared after the latest 1-2 updates of my firefox and has never been a issue in the past whatsoever. Normally I have one or two firefoxes running with about 2-8 tabs, so there's no real stress on my computer either.
Best wishes, Fredrik. Stockholm/Sweden
