I am using Max OS X 10.5.8 w/ Firefox 12.0. When I visit https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ I get the following message:

For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version.

I installed all updates via Apple's Software Update utility and restarted my computer but Firefox is still displaying this message.

Any ideas?

As an independent confirmation, you could try Oracle's test page here: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

Or... maybe that doesn't work if Java is disabled...

There may not be an update for Java for systems running OSX 10.5.x and prior. As an OSX user, you depend on Apple to release an update.

See the 3rd paragraph and following of this --> http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57411535-263/java-updates-for-flashback-avoid-os-x-tiger-and-leopard/

If you have an Intel processor, you should upgrade to OSX 10.6 or 10.7.
