Whenever I click on a tab it starts to refresh itself and it makes it very time consuming to switch between tabs. Many times I just want to see what the tab is so I can decide if I need to keep it open or not, but then I have to wait 30 seconds for it to refresh. It's very annoying. I am using Firefox for Mac.

I agreed to the update when I had two Firefox windows open - each with multiple tabs. When Firefox automatically re-opened the windows after the update, I found that each time I switched between tabs they automatically refreshed. I couldn't find a way to stop it, so looked on here. Then started thinking and realised it may be associated with the restart after updating. So I closed Firefox down and, hey presto, when I opened it again it was working normally again! So it definitely looks like a "feature" of the automatic restart after installing an update.

You can set the Boolean pref sessionstore.restore_hidden_tabs to true on the about:config page to see if that helps.
