A page requests that a jpg image be displayed using the /img/ tag. When the page is rendered, the image is missing and there is no placeholder. It isn't even obvious that there should be an image and that it is missing.

Looking at the page source and finding the tag (or using firebug, much easier) gets the address of the image. Opening the image in a new tab works. No question that FF can find the image; it just doesn't when rendering particular pages.

1. Directly accessing the image always works. You can do it before or after you call for the failing page, and the failing page always fails to display the image. Restarting FF makes no difference. This suggests that some form of caching is NOT involved.

Right click "Page Info" then "Media" tab to show a list of images requested for the page. As each image is highlighted in the Address box, it should appear in the "Media Preview".

2. Sometimes the image address of problem images is in italics and sometimes it is in regular type. Regular or italic, it does not show on the page.

3. Highlighting the image in the address box sometimes causes it to appear in the Media Preview. Scrolling up and down through the items in the address box generally eventually will get it to show in the Media Preview.

Refreshing the page, after getting Page Info to display the image, does not help.

4. Since no place holder is displayed, I can't right click and display image, etc.

This happens with all FF extensions disabled, the AntiVirus programs disabled, and the Firewall program disabled. The only thing I haven't done is fire up Wireshark for a line trace.

In Chrome... Missing images occasionally happen in Chrome. A page with two different images from the same site can load just one of two. However there is always a placeholder for the missing image, and right click on the placeholder "Open Image in New Tab" always displays the image.

In IE7, there doesn't seem to be a problem.

Sample problem images below. This site isn't the only one showing the problem, but any particular site seems to always work or always fail.

I can give you a failing page, but it is NSFW! Ask me privately and I'll gladly pass it on.

Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.images pref should be 1.

Also make sure that you haven't enable HTTP pipelining as not all server support that feature and may not work properly when it is enabled.
