Importing bookmarks by Firefox from Firefox from an other disk seams not to be possible. Is there a way of doing it. I cannot boot from the main disk anymore, but I have acces.

Thanks cor-el,

Strange anough there is no profile folder, not even a Firefox folder in the Applications folders. There are Mozilla folders in the Libraries of the main disk and the users folder. Also there is no profile folder nor Firefox folder. I found a profile folder in the defaults folder under "open package" with the Firefox Icon. I copied this an pasted it into the new Firefox package (in the MacOS folder), but that doesn't give the solution. It is weard. I did everything already before I read the instructions, without any result. I reinstalled Firefox to see if a Firefox folder would appear in the appl.folder or the library of the users folder, but nothing like that. How strange is this? Can anybody help, please?

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Were there any files in that defaults folder that you tried to copy?
If you copy a full folder then Firefox may not find it if the isn't an entry in profiles.ini to specify it.

I have an iMac, system MacOS 10.6.7. So, it is not Windows. There are files in the defaults folder and that's what I copied. There is a profile folder containing a folder named chrome and that folder is empty. There is a folder named Pref containing a document called channel-prefs.js. And there is a folder named autoconfig. and is empty. I tried this with notepad javascript: Components.classes["@mozilla.org/file/directory_service;1"].getService( Components.interfaces.nsIProperties).get("ProfD", Components.interfaces.nsIFile).path Then I got the message: no permission to read! I am still wondering what's wrong with it. My hard disk is crashed but still accessable. So before I go to format it I would like to get my bookmarks. On the external disk I reinstalled Firefox after deleting it. Still I can't find there a Firefox profile as well, and it should, isn't it. Thanks for your help. BTW, The Thunderbird profile was no problem!

That is not the Firefox profile folder, but the Firefox application folder that has the channel-prefs.js and the other folders that you mentioned.

Try to repair the disk permissions:
