As I said. Firefox has never given me any problems over the years. However, in the last 3 weeks it keeps freezing on me. When it does this I open the task manager and end the process "plugin-container.exe". This then gets firefox going again.

This is happening on both my work computer and my home computer. All plugins on both are eith up to date or disabled.

I did get some random flash crash messages earlier today when I hadn't even got Firefox open. Please sort this out as it's getting very annoying.

plugin-container.exe is just a wrapper for a plugin you are using.

What version of flash player do you have installed? http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

What version of Java do you have installed? http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

If not the latest, update both and post back

Flash version: You have version 11,1,102,55 installed

Java: You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 29).

Although got the following message with Java also.

"Old and unsupported versions of Java have also been detected on your system. Click here for instructions on how to remove them to maintain your system security."

I'll do what it says and see what happens.

Done. Removed J2SE Runtime Environment Update 5. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks for your reply fmdeveloper

No still doing it. It's Flash that's the problem. I keep getting notifications saying the Adobe Flash plugin has crashed.

Nightmare. Anyone any suggestions? This only started happening with the upgrade to Firefox 8.

Please provide a crash id for a crash and we can take a look -> https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report

I have the same problem, I disabled the FLASH plugin and the cpu usage immediately dropped and plugin-container usage dropped to zero

fmdeveloper, because I've been force closing the plug-in container (task manager) I haven't been getting crash reports. However, I am getting box messages on webpages saying it is the Adobe Flash plugin. I'll have a look at doing the stacktrace reports manually but it looks like a lot of work.

brentford, how are you disabling the Flash plugin? And if you disable it are you not able to see a lot of content that uses flash?

It's far too much work trying to get a crash id. I got a send errort report request yesterday and I pressed yes but no futher box opened.

I guess I'll just keep closing plugin-container when Flash crashes.

All you have to do to get a crash id is to type about:crashes in the location bar and copy and paste a couple to this report. Please re-read https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report#How_to_get_a_crash_ID_with_the_Mozilla_Crash_Reporter

Hi, I have the same problem with Windows XP SP3, Latest Firefox 8.0.1 and Flash Player 11. On some page, that contain flash (Some page, not all) I got Firefox freezes. If it is video, sometimes sound goes, but video and browser freezes. I fixed once with older version of flash player, but this problem is at work, where I use some shity WEB ERP with IE. And when I start IE it updates flash player agene automatically for both.

Please fix it! I use Firefox from years.

switched to Chrome problem gone. Since this has been an ongoing issue since 2010 with no solution I guess switching browser is the only thing to do.

As you can see from my screenshot, MULTIPLE entries of resource hogging plug in containers all needing to be force quit.

I have used FF for years but recently while speaking to customers on phone my browser would lock up because of this and therefore its a no-brainer what needs to be done in a work enviroment... switch to more stable browser. Hope you sort it out FF but till then bon voyage!

ok fmdeveloper I did that and I have a crash report. Do you want me to paste it in here? How much of it?

i just posted a topic about this stupid bull sh*t freezing firefox keeps doing. damn this browser is annoying as hell. and i am forced to use firefox because google chrome and internet explorer won't work on my computer anymore. i have seriously been close to picking my monitor up and throwing it against the wall because of the annoying freezing. they need to fix this sh*t up. this type of stuff is going to cause people to abandon this crappy browser. i hope someone else makes a new browser so i can delete this piece of crap. this thing just froze for 3 mintues while i was typing this too...

Im_iLLiN if you need it to start working again quickly just open the task manager, go to processes and stop then plugin-container.exe.

All flash will stop working on your webpages but you can re-load them and they'll start again.

I also have the same issue with FireFox freezing continuously for a few seconds then coming right again. It's very frustrating. Here are my last few crash report ID's

There you go fm developer. Let me know if you need anything else.

You should note however that becasue I'm stopping the plugin-containere.exe the crash reports are not being generated. However, firefox is freezing all the time at this stage.

more options

The crash report IDs are straight Flash player crashes - nothing related to Firefox.

If you want to disable the plugin-container.exe for Flash (this means when Flash crashes, Firefox will likely crash as well) do the following:

Go to about:config Accept the warning (if shown) Filter on dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll Set the value to Flase

plugin-container.exe will no longer wrap Flash player. Again, this means Flash crashes will likely crash ALL of Firefox

more options

If I go into the task manager and end the plugin-container.exe this is going to stop the high cpu usage, however, with sites requiring flash, will it still work or is there some other steps that need to be taken?
