Go to Tools>Options>General

Select from the drop-down menu When Firefox starts - "Show my homepage"

Under Homepage, type the url you want as homepage.

Click ok.

Restart the browser and see if your homepage is seen at the start.

That lasted all of 30secs. Still not holding my homepage. Got me beat!!

Glad it worked. You can actually set many pages as your homepages just by adding the urls you want to open automatically at the start. Of course, the pages would take some time to load at the start.

It would help others, if you mark click the "Helpful" button next to my post. Then this post will go under "Solved" category instead of remaining under "Unsolved" category.

Ok. Repeat the above steps once more, except the last step of closing the browser.

Before closing the browser, go to Tools>Synchronize now. Wait for a few seconds. Then restart the browser.

I think I have the answer. After typing in my url, in the Mozilla toolbar, I went into options and set it to use "Windows and Tabs from Last time" I think that this might be the end of the problem. Will hold off marking it as solved, until I try it a few more times.

That way all the pages you had opened in the last session would open at the start.

I even changed the homepage link on Tools >> Options >> General.. This link (tr(.)v9(.)com/sof/) returns every time I restart firefox, looks like a malware.. Any idea how can I fix it? Thanks in advance..

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

I just scanned it with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SuperAntispyware. Still no luck.. the malware is still showing...

Did you check for problems with prefs.js and user.js?

Hi guy's. Have found out this morning that this problem is not solely that of Firefox. I have Windows IE9, not used that much which has the same problem. So what ever the nastie is, it has to be a Malware of some description. Have downloaded all of the suggested removale programs, so will now try them and see what happens. Will keep you posted.

After trying all of the pieces of software suggested by another member, none found and removed the item. I installed Google Chrome, this afternoon. The same URl popped up but Google said that the link was not valid. With Google I was able to pin my home page URL to the toolbar and that was that. Perhaps the guy's who work on Firefox could look at making the means of locking your home page URl more secure, so that it does not get pushed aside by another piece of rubbish. Many thanks to those who tried to help resolve this matter..

I HAD POSTED THIS SAME 'tr.V9.com AS HOME PAGE' PROBLEM 2 DAYS AGO SEPARATELY WITHOUT KNOWING IT WAS ALREADY BEING DISCUSSED IN THIS THREAD. AM QUOTING IT BELOW. NO RESOLUTION YET. THOSE AFFECTED VITALLY NEED TO KNOW IF THIS HIGHLY PROBABLE MALWARE IS IN FACT SPYWARE. I ALSO NEED TO ADD FOR THE BENEFIT OF THOSE WHO WISH TO INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM, THAT SUPER-ANTI SPYWARE (SAS) FREE HAD IN FACT INITIALLY DETECTED THE CHANGE TO MY HOME PAGE IN INTERNET EXPLORER WHICH IS ALSO LOADED ON MY PC; I CLICKED ON THE "BLOCK" BOX IN SAS AND THE WARNING DISAPPEARED. BUT WHEN I OPENED FIREFOX, MY DEFAULT BROWSER, THIS HOMEPAGE APPEARED AND HAS PERSISTENTLY REMAINED EVER SINCE DESPITE VARIOUS SUGGESTED ACTIONS. INCIDENTALLY, MY PC IS ON WINDOWS XP.

Cannot get back to Mozilla Firefox Home Page from http://tr.v9.com/sof/sof_1318970110_666715 despite using Options to go back to Default Mozilla Firefox Home Page.

For some unaccountable reason, the Firefox Home Page changed over to to the tr.V9.com home page. Have tried the "Restore to Default" Home Page in "Options", but to no avail. I would think that any site with such persistence is automatically suspect. The site seems to be based in Brazil, and WOT has apparently not tested this site. Super Anti Spyware detected a change in the Home page, and even there, despite clicking on the the "Block" box, the site still remains the Home page.

Can some knowledgeable person please help us rid our PCs of this persistent and irritating suspected malware?

All the possible remedies suggested in this thread have not worked.

First of all you need to un-install that program... From what I gathered after reading the posts here, the malware is probably changing the prefrences as soon as it gets the chance... And disable any suspicious addons you may see in your addon menu like toolbar or the likes...

And after un-installing the program, try to set the homepage again and tell if it works...

PS: And you can also use HiJack This! to find the malware...

Uninstalling the program is the first thing anyone should and would try, but there is no specific overtly evident program for it either under >Start>Programs or under >Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Don't know how to use the HiJack This! software but will learn and try it out if other simpler solutions fail. Disabled all the Addons and started Firefox.....it had no effect. Am also hoping that Super Anti Spyware and MBAM investigate this and finally find a way to detect and delete it. In the meantime, anyone, any further ideas, please?
