In the newwst version of FF I can't open the profile manager from the terminal or directly fromFF anymore, what happened to it? I used it a lot and I'm stuck on FF 3.5.19 because of this, is anything I'm missing? thanks for any help anyone can provide me. :)

Thanks for your reply.

I installed FF number 5 and followed the procedure and is not working. Then thanks to your link, I find out in a blog that after number 4 there's no way to access your profile but downloading external app for FF and TB profiles.

http://jagriffin.wordpress.com/2011/01/11/profilemanager-1-0_beta1/

it all seems to be a new layer of complications, and reading that blog there seem to be a consistent number of trouble with that solution.

The solution I still running on my FF 3.5.19 seems to be waaaaay easier e.g.: I've got an extra extension to manage profile (I think the only one that still around) and bang! got all my profile, in a very simple GUI and between CLEO + FEBE + OPIE extensions I back-up all my preferences .xpi and profiles.

The final question for me is obvious: why not supporting profiles within the application anymore?

Not even considering putting out obvious information about it, I needed to dig a fair bit before finding out that the profile manager function wasn't actually there anymore and from witch version.

Even the help pages in the support.mozilla.com site aren't clear about it and they don't specify witch versions of FF are still supporting the profile manager and witch aren't.

Funny enough, I found the information elsewhere.

Now I know that this is a very generous project, and I thank the Universe for being able to use good apps such FF and TB, I'm just trying to find some more clear and consistent info from the source (see FF crew) and some good reasons to get over it. I'm sure you guys have at least one! :)

If you really read all this, thanks so much for your valuable time!

Try using -p instead of -profilemanager on Firefox 4+ versions.

thx for the responses.

I guess that if I want to move on I need to use the external "profile manager" application. And I also understand part of the reasons why. The profile manager is probably more what you'd call developer tool and leaving it out of FF is probably a way to create a more definable separation.

None the less if you consult the official help or support pages it's hard to find up to date information, so as a constructive crticism I hope you are gonna put this on the list of your to-dos.

Just to give a closure to this topic, I found the mac OSX version of the profile manager here -> ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/utilities/profilemanager/1.0/ from one of the links that mha007 kindly posted. it works fine with FF 7.0.1 and I guess it would work with Thunderbird too, but I havn't tried that yet. Thanks again and keep up with the ggod job!
