Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Google changed the login from

www.google.com/accounts

to

accounts.google.com

Solution: Open up toolbar.js with a decent editor.

Find: www.google.com/accounts

and replace ALL with: accounts.google.com

Restart FF 6.

Login through the toolbar. Enjoy.

That works for PC.......how do we do this fix for the Mac?

I'm hoping for some additional assistance on making changes in the toolbar.js . I can locate it but I do not know how to "open up toolbar.js in a decent editor" and how the procedure of replacing www.google.com/accounts with accounts.google.com will be handled.

I am very knowledgeable on computers but this action has me stumped...along with how and where I do these actions.

Thank you in advance for your assistance on this matter.

I need help with "decent editor." Could you suggest one, please. Also, I would greatly appreciate some step-by-step instructions. I desperately want my Google Toolbar Bookmarks back on Firefox, but I'm nervous about messing around with my directory. I have to fix a PC Win7 64-bit and a Mac 64-bit. Thanks.

Hi, could you please be more specific on how to find the toolbar.js location. I tried to find it, but was unable to do so. I am running Vista Home Pro. Thanks for the help. I really want my bookmarks back.

I had the same problem with a Spanish pc (on Vista). How I solved it as detailed as possible:

Like thalgas and cflammen say, you have to reach toolbar.js Which has been a bit complicated for me. Also this link helped me: http://randytayler.com/2011/09/cant-log-in-to-the-google-toolbar-miss-your-bookmarks-i-help-you/

Essentially, if you type: "C:\Users\username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<xyz>.default\extensions\<{xyz}>\lib"

Nothing will come up because where it says "username" and "<xyz>" it's different in every computer.

Open any folder of your pc (like "my computer") and type on the address bar "C:\Users\Michael\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles" Changing Michael to whatever your username is on your computer.

Then click on the only folder that appears (which I guess has a different name in each computer), then click on the folder "extensions" then click on the second folder in which you should find the final folder "lib" your looking for. Inside this folder is the file "toolbar.js". Right click on it and select open with notepad.

Once your in just go up to Edit > Replace, and enter the following in the “Find” field:

www.google.com/accounts

And then this in the “Replace” field:

accounts.google.com

Hit “Replace All”. Then Save, and close it.

That’s it. Restart Firefox, and NOW the Google toolbar will let you log in.

It did work for me! ;D Thanks! (hope I didn't make it too confusing...)

Thanks for this! I've been playing around with mine because it just stopped working yesterday for me (after I returned from using the "private browsing" functon).

On FF 6.02 , and this fix worked great :) Took 30 seconds with Wordpad (works fine if you make sure to save the JS as plain text).

This worked fine for me. The only slight complication was that my toolbar.js file was sitting a layer deeper at ...Profiles/XXXXX.default/extensions

Many thanks - I love Google Toolbar!

Perfect - edited C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<xyz>.default\extensions\<{xyz}>\lib\toolbar.js and replaced as above, and it works fine now!

Not sure why it didn't work --unless it makes a difference that I'm in VISTA?? I can get to all the steps suggested, though, and now, when I type in the Find, Replace All www.google.com/accounts it says it can't find that. But when I type accounts.google.com in the Find, Replace it doesn't say that it can't find it--so seems to recognize the updated info. Hope that's clear.

One more thought-- another option that comes up after the "qoh0tp3s.default" step, right under the extensions option, is
GoogleToolbarData. When clicked, it brings up a list of 9 things, two of which were modified on 9/21--"features", PROPERTIES File, and "searchhistory," XLM Documents. On 7/12, "components" was modified, and 3 others in June. All of that may be irrelevant. I have reluctantly gone back to using IE when I want to get to my bookmarks, which work like they did in Firefox (ironically, I switched to Firefox when IE had compatibility issues with Gmail, which I couldn't resolve!). I have also set up Chrome, but hate the way the bookmarks look/work, and the Google Toolbar isn't compatible! I also put the bookmarks on igoogle---just so much juggling for something that worked so well!! GRRR!!! So, any other suggestions would be appreciated, though my tech skills are limited. Thanks much!!

Why be held hostage to third party toolbar?:

Why would you tie your entire browser use to a third party toolbar, that was never really ever needed, let alone be held hostage to not update Firefox. Google had over a year to update their toolbar for Firefox 4 and the changes for Firefox 5 could have been tested for several months. Google waited a very long time before finally indicating that they would no longer maintain their toolbar for Firefox stating that it was not needed, and that the features were in Firefox. Also be aware that the features are also in their own browser which also does not need or use the Google toolbar. Not only is Mozilla open source, but all information is made available to anyone -- you can even listen in on meetings online yourself or wait for a printed review.

Life without the Google Toolbar.

You might want to check out this article, based on Google's own assessment that features were already in Firefox, and expanded from there.

I'm using Vista Home Premium and found toolbar.js by clicking on the start button and searching for 'appdata', then searching appdata for 'lib', opening lib to see 3 files - the middle one is toolbar.js

Looking at the cascade on the left, the pathway seems to be: Desktop - your user name - appdata - roaming - Mozilla - Firefox - profiles - extensions - one of the alphanumeric coded files - lib - toolbar.js

The fix works like a charm after restarting. Hopefully you can find that file on your pc.

For me it didn't work. My google toolbar during signing in redirects to accounts.youtube.com and ofc cannot login. What should I change in toolbar.js in order to stop redirecting on youtube?

hello Michael_More: i´ve found yours the more comprehensive and understandable way of "fixing" the Google Toolbar issue. the key (for me) was to find the lib folder; once founded, it was easy, even for a non-expert like me, to get again access to my Google account thanks a lot, fernando barba

Thanks thalgas & cflammen!

How to quickly find & fix on PC (Windows XP Pro):

1) Open Windows Explorer

2) Go to C:/Documents and Settings

(Change C: drive accordingly. May be in different drive on your PC)

3) Select "Search" button at top of Windows Explorer window

4) "What do you want to search for?" -> Select "All files and folders"

5) In 1st search field, type toolbar.js

6) Select "Search" button at bottom right of the search dialog

Ex: Mine toolbar.js is located at: C:\Documents and Settings\Me\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\11hssoch.default\extensions\{3112ca9c-de6d-4884-a869-9855de68056c}\lib\toolbar.js

7) Right button drag and drop "toolbar.js" & then select "Copy Here"

8) Right-click on "toolbar.js" and select "Open With..." and select "Notepad"

9) (toolbar.js content will look like a giant unformatted ball of code - it's OK)

In Notepad, press Ctrl H (Find&Replace).

10) Find what: www.google.com/accounts

    Replace with: accounts.google.com

11) Select "Replace All" button

12) Close Find&Replace popup window.

13) Select File->Save. Then exit Notepad.

14) Restart Firefox & enjoy your Google bookmarks.
