Explain Tools > "Sync Now."
Firefox Sync is up and running on my four computers. Sometimes a new bookmark on one machine registers on one of the others within a few minutes, sometimes not.
Tools contains a "Sync Now" function, but there's nothing to explain what it's supposed to do. Does it upload bookmarks from the device I'm currently working on to the Mozilla server? Does it download from the server to whichever device I'm working on? Do I have to use it at all--or will syncing happen automatically? How long does it take to complete?
It would be helpful to have some instructions somewhere explaining when and how to use "Sync Now," and what to expect when I do.

Hi!
Thanks for the feedback.
As you properly presume, what the Sync Now button does is to force a synchronization of the actual machine with the info on the server. Because of that it will: - Upload any change done locally. - Download any change that has been done remotely and it hasn't been registered .
The progress is something that it's not displayed yet, the team is working on it and it would be available soon.
In general, syncing is done automatically and you shouldn't need this button. The goal of it is to force synchronization when you are looking to make it happen "now" (i.e. you are about to close Firefox and you want to have the info in your work computer later that day).
I hope this clarifies things.
