Your question about link icons seems very ambiguous to me, yet two other people think they have the same problem.'

Can you provide a url of what you are referring to and where to look and what you expect to see as images and what if anything you see instead.

Small symbols added to links: at some sites or by a user Style

MozillaZine identifies external links with a special symbol (see picture) and this link -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Websites_look_wrong

This is not all that common, there are styles which do this and go on to identify specific types of files. An example of one such style

Link Warning - Themes and Skins for Mozilla - userstyles.org

Site Advisor warnings: Or maybe you are referring to Search results, where "McAfee Site Advisor" or "WOT" extensions add safe/warning/unsafe symbols for each search item.

The "Site Advisor" extension has has problems (look for a fix from McAfee 3rd week in July, 2011). The extension is not on addons.mozilla.com so there is not code checking by Mozilla whatsoever.

Site Identification Button replaces padlock:

Or maybe you are looking for the padlock on the former status bar (no addons bar) or within the location bar, that was done away with and replaced with site identification button.

Please try to describe your problem more explicitly in the future -- some tips are in my profile button -- hope this helped -- it's just guessing.

Have a look at: http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=3

Normally I see link icons above the text "Your Actions Here Fund Food And Care For Rescued Animals." If I place my mouse over where the icons should be I can determine what they are.

Those are navigation headings on the webpage, I can see them:

Hunger|Breast Cancer|Animal Rescue|Veterans|Autism|Child Health|Literacy|Rainforest

Perhaps you blocked something with the "Adblock Plus" extension, if you have it then try Ctrl+Shift+V to bring up the blockable items.

Thanks dmc but that doesn't work. I've been comparing that site on Firefox and Explorer - there are significant sections missing in Firefox. Here's another site - http://www.pprune.org/ This looks completely different when viewed in Explorer - considerable mount of colour and detail missing. I can see the links and ads though.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Windows Accessibility settings.

For the record, on a general view I can't see any difference. The links are in place and work.

If Cor-el's suggestions don't work I think you'll need to do some normal troubleshooting(Safe Mode, Problematic Extensions etc) -

https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting%20extensions%20and%20themes

You might start by disabling Silverlight which I remember was a culprit in one case.

I don't see a difference in http://www.pprune.org/ between Firefox 5.0 on the left and IE9 on the right

dmc - what you show there is exactly what I USED TO SEE. Now, with Firefox, I'm missing lots of detail as already explained. Nothing I have done yet (having followed the advice given above) has changed the situation. I'm having to use IE to browse so it could be 'Goodbye Firefox'.

Did you check the articles that I posted above?

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

This does it: "Tools -> Options -> Content -> Colors" check "Allow pages to use their own colors, instead of my selections above"

I must have missed that when I was working through the above fixes.

Many thanks, Chris
