Pin as App Tab works for a day or two then disappears and I have to redo it. My favourite is GMail but it doesn't stick for long.

Do you have the "Tab Mix Plus" extension?

People with TMP were still having problems in May

Try disabling TMP .

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings and make sure that session data is not removed.

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox profile folder.

Dear dmcritchie

Thx for your quick response. However I do not have a TMP Extension. My Extensions & PlugIns are very basic.

If you are a wiz (I am not & just self-taught) I wonder if you have any answers to a few other minor but annoying probs I am having since I upgraded to Fx4:

1. Times, or dates, don't always show up against websites previously searched; 2. The new resize drag bar for the left Google Search Box doesn't stick perman-

   ently either.

Would love it if you have any suggestions as the above have been in the Forum for some time without any replies. Thx. finny

Finny, I wish you well in your search for a solution, but you'll have more luck if you re-post the questions under topics to which they relate. They aren't appropriate in this thread dealing with Pin as App Tab functionality.

Hi Cor-el. Sorry for delay due to illness. I don't use a Cleaner. And I couldn't get anywhere with finding sessionstore.js anywhere in my system and a search of Fx Profile Folder got me nowhere either. Thx anyhow. Any other suggestions welcome as I still have that problem plus others with Google Toolbar since updating to Fx 4.

This is solved??? This Pin as App should persist ALL THE TIME unless you delete the entire Firefox profile, period. It should NOT be directly tied to sessions, because then you have to RESTORE such session every time you start Firefox. Broken by design? Look at how it behaves in Chrome. No matter what you do, when you stop/start/restart/restart(x10) Chrome, the pinned sites are ALWAYS THERE.

Finny, since you said the were okay for a day so it seemed that not saving your history was not the actual problem, but let's check that to make sure.

App-tabs are considered part of browsing history so you must save your browsing history for app-tabs to work. Tools > Options > Privacy you must have "Remember my browsing history" and in Settings where check marks mean to clear things you must leave unchecked "Browsing history". Annotated picture:

For your problems with the Google Toolbar (not the search bar in Firefox) be aware that Google has dropped support for it in the current (Firefox 5.0-) and future versions of the Firefox browser. So while you are still on 4.0.1 you might practice with the alternatives to the Google Toolbar, and using Google features without the Google Toolbar.

The file sessionstore.js is in the Firefox Profile Folder and if that file is deleted or gets corrupted then you lose the App Tabs.

Sorry for the delay due to health problems but thank u for your comments. I still occasionally have the problem but have learned to live with it as no solutions worked.

Sorry for the delay due to health problems but thank u for your advice. I had previously tried all your suggested links but to no avail so now I just live with it.

Sorry for the delay due to health problems but thank you for your helpful suggestions. I did check them all out & they obviously weren't the cause of the Pin as App tab not sticking but, as it doesn't happen very often, I just live with it. Re the Google Toolbar: thx for advising me they were no longer supporting it. I thought Google would have had the corporate good manners to advise all Toolbar users of their decision ... Anyhow, I updated to Fx 7 &, as you advised, I installed Google Add-ons for Fx & am very satisfied. Thank u again.

It is possible to use the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting, that is usually a more reliable way to restore session data.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

Sorry for the delay in responding due to health problems but thank you for your advice. I checked out all of your suggestions but there didn't seem to be a problem there so have given up & just live with the occasional problem. Thx.

I had FF 10.0, it required an update, but rather than update to the latest, I had to walk through the 10.0.1 then the 10.0.2 update. By then all my pinned tabs disappeared - there had been about 12. It has not been that rare that after a required update that the pinned tabs simply disappear. It is frustrating enough that what is touted as an advantage is a pain in the butt. I guess I don't understand why the pinned tabs aren't treated as a safe file, such as the bookmarks are, which should persist through the updates.

Perform the suggestions mentioned in the following article:

Check and tell if its working.

Don't use 'show my windows and tabs from last time' in options>general settings.

After opening FF with apps tabs you might then open additional windows (without apps tabs) or they might popup themselves behind. If you close your first window with apps tabs before the window without app tabs, guess what happens when you restart FF with the above setting turned on. No apps tabs.

Use your 'homepage' setting instead of the above and your apps stay pinned.

Cor-el Thx for all your advice & sorry for unavoidable delay. I devised a solution of my own, since whatever I do the GMail Pin as App tab occasionally disappears during a session. I now have a GMail button in my Fx Bookmark Toolbar as backup. Regards.

JaLind I agree with your comments. Thx for the post and sorry for lengthy delay in replying.

Jeffoz1 Thx for your post and apologies for lengthy delay in replying. I do use the Home Page setting but will checkout your advice on closing tabs. The problem still occurs occasionally during a session but I now have a GMail button on the Fx Bookmarks Toolbar as a backup. Regards.
