When I ran Webroot Window Washer with the previous version of Firefox (3.6.6 I think), the Window Washer program ran fine - cleaned all the Firefox form data, cache, cookies, and other system stuff and etc properly. But with Version 4 Firefox, the Window Washer program will not run past scanning the Firefox cookies. The Webroot error states that the Firefox database is inaccessible to the Window Washer program. Help!

I just re-installed Version 3.6.7 Firefox and am much happier now! The only thing that made me a bit perturbed was that I lost all my bookmark icons and had to spend tedious hours reloading them - but that was a minor issue. When Version 4 is truly ready and usable, I will download it again. What an unpleasant experience this was but at least I am back where I need to be. And Window Washer (which cost $$$) is now running properly. Keep trying, folks at Mozilla. I'm not mad at you!! It's still better than IE.

@ TMitchellFMW. I have had the same problem with Webroot Windows Washer v 6.6.0.67 and FF 4. I have just uninstalled FF4 (including the original zipped download), and re-installed FF 3.6.14 with which Windows Washer was working perfectly until I downloaded FF 4 two days ago. Re-booted. Then tried to wash, but the same problem occurs, i.e. cleaning will not proceed beyond FF cookies (and FF is my default browser).

Sounds like Webroot Window Washer isn't completely compatible with Firefox 4, and they need to update that program for the changes that Mozilla made between the Firefox 3.6.x versions and Firefox 4.0. There was big change to the way the browser cache is handled, so I wonder if that is where Webroot stopped working?

For those having problems with Window Washer failing to process after Firefox 4 files here is a solution. Actually Firefox 4 will do a better cleanup after itself than the options available within Window Washer.

In Firefox 4 - Within Tools/Options: Check “Clear History When Firefox Closes” then click on the Settings box. Within the Settings For Clearing History popup: Check your choices to be cleared and click OK.

In Window Washer within Wash Setup: Edit Firefox 4.0 and uncheck all options then click on Apply. If Firefox 4.0 is your only browser you may, within the Internet Options section Uncheck the Include In Wash option.

I did report this issue to the Webroot support line and they stated that they were aware of it and were working on the problem. It sounded like they had heard from quite a few others about it. To jdutton2: I have done all of those steps you mentioned and they do work quite well. However, there are other things about Version 4 that made me return to version 3.6.16 until Version 4 is a bit more 'user friendly'. One of those things is the option to organize bookmarks! It's missing in Version 4. And I still - after all of this - much prefer Firefox to IE.

If you click on "Show All Bookmarks" isn't that the screen you are looking for? It looks very similar to the Organize screen that was in prior versions. At the top of the screen is an "Organize" option. I think I can organize my bookmarks plus backup and restore them much the same as in prior versions.

Window Washer is using the SQLite3.dll that was available at the time they were made. Firefox uses a newer SQLite version that is not backwards compatible.

Until Webroot makes a patch, you can download the new SQLite DLL from http://www.sqlite.org/sqlite-dll-win32-x86-3070500.zip and place it in the Window Washer folder. You will need to Stop the Window Washer Engine service under Windows Services to access this file.

If you do no know how to stop the service or replace the file, it's probably best that you wait until a patch is made.

Thanks so much, Charixfox! That is a very good and quite reasonable explanation of the database problem and its solution. However, I think I will wait for the patch since my 'techie' days have been over for quite a while. It would be good if Webroot folks are eavesdropping on our conversations so they can go ahead and fix it - if they haven't already. And the other non-technically-challenged folks on this site can benefit from your expertise. Kudos to you!!

jdutton2, I have this problem also. I followed your advice and deselected all firefox options in Windows Washer and now it works perfectly.

Thanks!!! :-)

Charixfox,

Your solution was easy to follow and everything works perfect. I recommend this procedure to everyone and I think this should be an easy fix for Webroot. This is the only way to insure a secure deletion using Window Washer.

Thanks!

Charixfox.

I shall echo TR651, I implemented your solution and everything works perfect. I encountered another problem with the latest release of Window Washer which I communicated to the Webroot support team. If this DLL upgrade solves that problem, I will update them. That problem does not involve Firefox 4.

I almost did not post the original issue to this forum - didn't think anyone else had the problem or would care. Thanks to all of you for proving me wrong. It's good that there are people out there willing to offer help to techno-challenged folks like me. You guys are great! After all, we want that computer working right no matter what we are trying to accomplish.
