I changed a password for my email so I deleted the old one from the saved list, now I want to save the new one but I'm not prompted to save it, how do I save the new password?

I had to change my password for one of my email accounts so I deleted the password that firefox had saved under the options, security tab. Now I would like to have firefox save my new password for the email account so that I won't have to re-enter it all the time, but since I removed the old user name and password from the list of saved ones I'm not asked by firefox if I would like to have the new password saved like I normally am when I enter a new password on a website. How do I get firefox to save my new password?
