get jokes on an attachment and they only show a full lengthy page of how the joke was attached..like span>< a whole bunch of letters and numbers..etc.. the entire page..but nothing else.

That is the HTML page source code. It looks that the page is not rendered as a website and that you get the source code. This can be caused by the MIME type being text/plain instead of text/html or because you have blocked showing attachments as rendered HTML. You can try to save the page (File > Save Page as), but that may not work for stylesheets and other extra data.
