A couple days ago my Firefox stopped opening. I click on the icon a million times and nothing happens. I can't think of any reason why it would suddenly do this. When I tried to delete it and redownload it, a box popped up saying I needed to close Firefox before proceeding. But it wasn't open so I had nothing to close, and consequently I couldn't download it again!

Try create new profile with Firefox profile manager. You can access profile manager by starting Firefox with -p command line parameter:

firefox.exe -p

Simplest way to do this is creating shortcut for firefox.exe, adding -p (with leading space) after firefox.exe in "Object" text field in "Shortcut" tab of shortcut properties window, and starting Firefox by double-clicking this shortcut.

Hit Ctrl R on your keyboard. This will bring up Run. Type taskmgr.exe. Find the processes tab. Locate firefox.exe and end the process. This should allow Firefox to run. If you find the problem continues:

One of your add-ons might be the culprit. Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If that solves the problem, see Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and possibly Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

~~~~~~~~~~~
If that does not solve the problem, Create a new profile Then, Recover your data from the old profile. See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile
