On update Firefox claims Flash needs updated but current version is installed
On upgrade, Firefox claims that Flash needs updated when Flash is the most current version.
This happened
Every time Firefox opened

You can see the installed plugins on the about:plugins page. If you set the pref plugin.expose_full_path to true on the about:config page then you see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page. It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page. You can access about: pages via the location bar, just like you open a website (about: is a protocol like http: and used for internal purposes).

You have an old outdated Shockwave Flash 9.0 r31 version installed. You should uninstall that version and install the latest Flash 10.1 r53 version.

Thanks, Cor-el, for your reply. As a programmer for the past 36 years and retired computer science professor, I would not waste people's time with a post because I cannot read, or comprehend, instructions.
The problem is FIREFOX IS STILL REPORTING THE OLD VERSION OF FLASH AFTER THE FLASH PLUGIN HAS BEEN UPDATED *TWICE*. There is no other version of flashplayer.so on the computer (or the entire network, for that matter) - and a manual search was initiatyed to verify the results of the "locate" command, and Synaptic's response. There are no inconsistencies in the apt database, nor are there any old install files on the machine, or the network. Furthermore, no websites have a problem or report an outdated version UNLESS they query Firefox itself, WHICH GIVES AN ERRORENOUS REPORT THAT THE OLD VERSION HAS NEVER BEEN UPDATED.
This is not the first time this problem has occurred, and it has occurred on other machines on my 6 machine network, and then mysteriously, disappears.
I finally got tired enough of the weirdness to file a report about it.
