Never mind, my bad.

Deleting it WORKS. No more hassle. Delete that file, problem solved.

Firefox 3.6.4 introduced this plugin-container.exe to make sure that plugins are better behaved. So if you're watching a video or playing a game and it crashes because of a faulty Flash plugin, only the plugin will crash and it wouldn't take down all of Firefox.

Go to the following link, click on "What's New in Firefox 3.6.4". The first 2 paragraphs is a brief explanation of what plugin-container.exe is designed to do. Right now, in Windows and Linux only, it isolates Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins from the main browser, so that if one of those plug-ins crashes, your whole browser does not crash. This was done due to the large number of crashes caused by plug-ins. Plans are to add more plug-ins in later updates to Firefox.

https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.4/releasenotes/

My only wish is that plugin-container.exe had been designed to close itself when pages running the plug-ins are closed. Maybe that will happen in a future update too.

Not for me...I tried deleting plugin-container.exe and my firefox crashes upon loading with my gmail manager plugin. When I restored the file, no more crashes.

Sure does take up a lot of resources

Possible way to disable in about:config

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1929497

Advise to backup prefs.js in your profile folder first, just in case.

If your browser crashes when a plug-in crashes, oh well, you caused it.

Just what I needed! Another process to eat up resources! >.

Firefox 3.6.4 with Vista for Windows is "hanging" every site I try to access, Facebook, Earthlink, MSN, what's going on?!

I don't know if its my version of flash but checking and updating to newer versions of flash or filing bugs with specific information on steps to reproduce will help. Using MozillaZine Support forums does wonders as lots of volunteers wait for people to help find out the specific reason you see crashes.

Also, filing bugs is a sure way to make sure websites you have any flash crash on will be address first by Mozilla community of developers or volunteers. Providing crash stats from Firefox and website data and version information is a sure bet to helping it get fixed in the future.

As of this release Flash is version 10.1.53.64 Which can be checked which version of Flash is on your system by going to this site: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/

How can I get rid of this crap? I don't want any extra process running in the background. This is crappy coding. For fuck's sake, at least make this horseshit a dll file or something, but not a fucking executable. Since when do Firefox developers deliver such bullshit?

Similar problem here. My PC seemed really slow today and while looking for issues, noticed the plugin-container.exe taking up resources in addition to the firefox 143 K.

Started a video, now firefox is 158 K and plugin-container.exe is 58 K. Good idea, but looks like taking a lot of resources.

I'm a Firefox fan, but think I'll try running Chrome today and see if my PC runs faster. Not good timing for a Firefox slowdown with Chrome running ads on TV for how fast it is. I'd rather run Firefox, but seems to be coming more of a memory hog and slows PC (Sounds like why I changed from I.E. to Firefox).

Just curious so I logged out of Firefox and into Chrome and I'm posting this with Chrome. 42K + 27 K with minimal CPU usage compared to what I was experiencing with Firefox 3.6.4 this morning.

Let's try playing a video and see what happens.... well that goes up to 200 K so similar to Firefox, but CPU usage is 30 to 40 % which was less than FF. When stopped the video, with Chrome CPU usage dropped, when closed the video, memory freed up. So maybe the issue is FF Plugin Container hanging around or maybe I need to get rid of my firebug plugin?

Anyway, love FF would very much prefer to use it over Chrome, but CPU and memory usage forcing me away today. I'll keep FF as my default, but may use Chrome today and keep checking for FF updates.

Want to stay with FF.

And how much did you pay for the FireFox browser (to previous rude post)?

I really appreciate all the work that has gone into the FF browser and wouldn't mind donating a little to the project. I really would prefer to not use a browser bound to a particular company - so favor FF.

That said, because of the issues discussed in this thread, I have changed my default browser away from FF. If there would be an email notification list for when the memory / performance issues are fixed with FF 3.6.4, I would love to be on the list, so I can change back.

Thanks.

If you're still having issues with the Flash plugin and/or Firefox 3.6.4, Firefox 3.6.6 has just been released to address this very issue. Please update: Update Firefox to the latest release

How exactly do you delete it and then reloaded. I play zoo in FB and if I stop the process I loose the game, it takes up to 100 CPU and I didn't know it could be possible with double nucleous Thanks for any help

Guys I seriously tried to keep using firefox as long as I could, but now even I am fed up with the amount of resources it is taking up on my computer. The browser is freezing up even when i type in a justin.tv chat room now. The amount of CPU usage is off the charts. This was such an excellent alternative to internet explorer at first but now its just such a resource hog that it is becoming unusable for me. As a previous poster stated above I will use chrome until these problems are fixed because in its current state I can't run firefox efficiently on my computer.

If you're still having issues with Firefox 3.6.4 and/or the Flash plugin, Firefox 3.6.6 has just been released to address this issue and increase the dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs pref to 45 seconds if it has still the default value. Please see Update Firefox to the latest release if you need help updating.
